Theory

The theory used the idea of having

contrasting ideas such as good vs evil or

young vs old.

This was based more on plots rather than

appearance.

Page 3: Narrative theory

Male Vs Female

In this clip the women has

the power, which contrasts

with the stereotype of the

power between man and

women being unequal as

men are seen as more

powerful. This is displayed in

the way she is dressed in a

high class purple dress of their time, and how the

plot shows that Merlin has

down something wrong.

Page 4: Narrative theory

Rich Vs Poor

In this scene Arthur is dressed in his armor and merlin is dressed in rags, this shows the difference between their classes. However Merlin is more important to the plot than Arthur is despite their appearance. Merlin’s importance is also shown due to him being in the foreground.

Young Vs Old

At this part of the clip Merlin is shown as doing something bad for having a fight which is stereotypical for a boy of his age. However Merlin argues with Gaius which is unusual because of his age and when the T.V program is set. Although Gaius is annoyed at Merlin, he relates with Merlin and apologies, this is Non-stereotypical as Gaius is older so is meant to be wiser than Merlin.
