NARPM® MEMBERS AT LARGE NEWSLETTER APRIL 2018 ISSUE | VOL. 1 | ISSUE 1
The Communications Committee has been hard at work putting together this new Members At Large newsletter. I hope that this will bring you some of the things you might get from a local chapter meeting, that being information and education. NARPM® is a great organization and everyone can gain something from their membership, but I know that chapter activity is a main focus. I appreciate all of the members at large and encourage you to Get INvolved in NARPM®. Hopefully, you will learn new ways to get involved through this newsletter. This year, we have started a new opportunity that you might find useful. It is called "Chat with the Presidents." We held our first online event in March and plan to do this quarterly. It is a very unstructured webinar with the chance to ask the 2018 President (myself) and the 2019 President (Eric Wetherington, MPM® RMP®) questions about NARPM® and/or the property management industry. I encourage you to look out for the next date and sign up and participate with us.
Click on the screenshot above to view a presentation recently given at one of NARPM®’s many local chapters. Aside from networking and conducting chapter business, local
chapters will usually host a speaker or a presentation useful to your business.
NARPM’S THEME FOR 2018 IS GET INVOLVED, MEANING BOTH GET-IN & GET-INVOLVED.

One cannot feel the magnitude of NARPM® without attending one of its State or National Conferences. These events will gather hundreds of NARPM® Property Managers who are eager to learn and eager to share all they know. Vendor trade shows are a big part of these conferences, too, bringing together vendors with services catered to anything a property manager could need. This means anything from PM software to tenant or even pet screening. These conferences typically kick off with a few optional NARPM® Certified Courses that count toward your NARPM® Designations. The opening session, often with a featured speaker, is followed by breakout sessions and workshops that cover more specific or advanced content. Over the course of these few days, you’ll meet many new faces and get to revisit with some old ones. Despite all of the speakers and workshops, it’s often joked that some of the best knowledge comes from dinner and drinks after the conference. So, consider staying at the hotel where the conference is held and spend time in the lobby’s lounging areas, as your new friends wind down. I’ll bet your first conference won’t be your last. – Mike Gonzales, RMP®

ASK MEMBERSHIP Question: WHAT is something that took you a few years to learn about NARPM® that you wish you knew in your first year?
“I joined NARPM® in 2012 and I wish someone told me to join the Chapter Board of Directors right away. Volunteering to serve on the board allowed me to meet so many people so fast and I’m still on the board this many years later. Giving back naturally comes with many networking benefits and you’re doing a good thing.”
Shelly Longoria, RMP®
Mike Gonzales, RMP®
“What surprised me most about NARPM® was the willingness of members to share information. This would consist of industry horror stories, lessons learned, procedures, vendors, and so much more. NARPM® Property Managers don’t act like competitors. They act like colleagues, building a better industry and doing so in a completely ethical way.”

“Turn on to Politics or Politics will turn on you”
Most of us are familiar with REALTOR® PACs (Political Action Committees). But, what if there was one that dealt directly with HUD and Congress about property management issues? In 2014, NARPM® began assembling the NARPM® PAC with overwhelming support of our large member base. All operations and financial transactions are administered by the NARPM® PAC Board of Trustees, which include members from all over the country. Help keep our industry safe from politics and Please donate today!

The map above of current NARPM® Regions was last revamped in 2015 to accommodate our growing membership. To GET INVOLVED, consider checking for a local chapter in your city or
area. None close? Consider traveling to a chapter meeting in your region from time to time. Of course, always stay in touch with the National Association for information about
