IhavethepleasuretopresentbeforeyoutheAnnualCollegeMagazine'Manthan2016-17'.Ms.RebeccaL.Pinto,theeditorofthismagazineandtheMagazineCommitteehavedoneawonderful jobofbringingout this issueof the collegemagazinewhichprovideus aninsightintothecurricular,co-curricularandextra-curricularactivitiesundertakenbythecollegeduringtheacademicyear.TheperformanceofourstudentsatT.Y.B.ComUniversityExaminationheldinApril2016,hasbeencommendable.AtT.Y.B.Com,wehad11Distinctions,64FirstClasses,58SecondClasses and 17 Pass Classes. The college pass percentage was 96%. This academicperformancewouldnothavebeenachievedwithoutourhighlyquali�iedanddedicatedstaff members. Our college faculty members participated and presented papers atInternational,NationalandStateLevelConferencesandSeminars.ManyofourfacultymemberspublishedpapersinNationalandInternationalJournals.Inthiscollege,westrivenotonlytoprovidethebesteducationtothestudents,butalsotorealize their potential by conducting various activities, the evidence ofwhich is seenre�lectedinthepagesoftheAnnualCollegeMagazine. “AndtheMostActiveMemberoftheStudents'CouncilAwardfortheyear2016-17goestoourGeneralSecretary,Mast.TejanGawas.”Wide smiling faces, loud shrieks andapplaudinghands in the airfollowed the announcement. That day,whilewalking to the dais to receive the award, only onethoughtranthroughmymind:“Ididn'tjustmakememories,Ihavemadeanidentityforalifetimehere.”Frombeingacarefree fresher in thiscollege tobecomingaresponsibleGeneralSecretary,everymomentispenthereisexceptional.Everystudentwhohasbeenpartofthiscollegetakesbackathousandstoriesthathavebeenscriptedhere.Myjourneytooincludessomewonderfulstories�illedwithlove,friendship,andvictories.Inthe�irstyearofB.Com,Ihadnoclueofwhatmyfutureinthisinstitutionwouldhold.Someofmyclassmateshadplannedwellaheadeventothepointoftheircareersaftertheirgraduation.Butasdayspassed,thecollegeatmospherehadanin�luenceonmeandI started getting involved in all the college activities and not just beingwithin thewalls of theclassroom.TheTheatreClubofthecollegewasmyfavouriteplaceafterthecanteen.Whenincollege,youdon'tjustlearnduringlectures;therearelotsofotherthingsthatbringoutthebestinyou.Thepeople,backstage fun during competitions, the rehearsals, memorizing tough scripts, and the amusingcostumesallhelpedmeinmyjourneytowinningthe'BestActorAward'.Allthesevictorieswerecelebratedinthecompanyofmyclosefriendsinthecollegecanteen-thebestplacethatiswitnesstoallourpartyingincludingbirthdays...AsIenteredtheSecondyearofB.Com,mybondingwithmyjuniorsandseniorsbecamereallystrong.Thesefriendsbecamefamilytome;thepeoplewithwhomIsharedallmyjoys,sorrowsandvictories.ItwouldnotbewrongtosaythatthebestpartofmyjourneywasthepeoplewhoalwayssupportedmeineverysituationwhenIneededthem.Onethingirealizedthroughmyjourneyisthatevenifyoubecomepopularandachampion,youencounterfailurestoo;andatthispointmyfriendsalwayssupportedandencouragedmetostaystrongandkeepmovingon.

rdTogetherwithallmyfriendsinthe3 yearofourcollege,wecreatedhistorybywinningtheStudents'CouncilElectionswithabang.Thewinnertaggaveusthecon�idencetoorganizeourcollegiateeventonagranderscalethanhasbeenwitnessedbefore.NowasIlookback,theonlythingthatdelightsmeisthatihavespentmycollegedaysnotjustwithmybooksbutbymakingeverlastingmemoriesoutsideclass.Theexampressures,bunkedlectures,latesubmissions, last minute presentations, camps, road trips, events, dramas, punishments,photocopied notes, sel�ies, pranks, cheesy nicknames, and lessons all made the journey worthtravellingfor3years.

EveryonelovestravellingandIamnodifferent!Butjusttravellingdoesn'tsatisfyme;infactilikeexploringespeciallynewplaces.Ihavebeenluckytoalwayshavepeoplearoundmewhohavesupportedmeandencouragedmetopursuemypassion.ThistimeitwastheN.S.SunitofNarayanZantyeCollegeofCommerceandN.S.SGoaUnitwhichprovidedmetheopportunitytotravel.ItwastheNationalYouthConventionCampbeingorganizedatRohtak,Haryanawhichsawtheparticipationofclose to120N.S.SVolunteersparticipating fromacrossthenation,outofwhich10representedGoa(includingme).ThoughIhavetravelledalot,itwasthe�irsttimethatiwastravellingasanN.S.SVolunteercourtesyofSumanthaNayak-I.G.AwardeefromGoa-whonotonlymotivatedmetojointheConvention,butalsoaccompaniedusalongwith1P.O.and10othermembersofthisconvention.thTheYouthConventionbeganon12 ofJanuary2017,whichisanauspiciousdaymarkingthebirthanniversaryofSwamiVivekanada.WestartedourjourneyacoupleofdayspriortotheconventionasthwedepartedfromThivim-Goaonthe10 ofJanuary2017.Theexcitingtrainjourneywasfollowedbya6hourlongbusjourneyfromDelhitoHaryana.Itwasachillywintermorningandonecouldhardlyseebeyondadistanceofafewfeetasthecampsitewashiddenbyathickfog.Despitethis,IclearlyrememberseeingseveralhundredvolunteersasexcitedasmebutmaybealittlelessnervousthanIwasatthatpoint.Thisnervousnesswasclearlyre�lectedonmyfaceandihadtoblameitonthefreezingcoldwhichwasjustalittleabove4degreeCelciusatthetime.TherewereafewguestlecturesbyvariousN.S.Sleadersonthe�irstdayoftheconvention.TheselecturescoveredseveraltopicsrangingfromhistoryofN.S.StothecurrentcareerprospectsinN.S.S.Theirlectureswerenotonlyrichincontent,butwerealsoveryenlighteningfortheyoungvolunteerslikeus.Whilesomenarratedexperiencesfromtheirpersonallife,othersshoweredpraisesonGoanVolunteersmakingusrealizehowluckyweareaswehavebeenbroughtupinabeautifullandthatispeacefulandblessedwithbeautifulbeachesandscenicbeauty.Notallthevolunteersareasluckyasweare,assomeofthemcomefromareasthatlackthebasicamenitiesandhavetotravel5-10kmsdailytocollectdrinkingwater.While therewere sessions in themorning, in the eveningswegot a chance towitnessdifferentcultural and traditional eventswhich livened themood of the entire gathering.Wewitnessed ashowcaseofvariousdanceformsperformedbymembersofthedifferentcommunitiesandalsoanexcellentdisplayoftalentsofthevolunteers.TheeveningwasafuntimewhenwegottointeractwithseveralhighlyinteractiveP.OmemberswhosharedtheirvisionforthedevelopmentofN.S.S.Inall,itwasafantasticexperienceattheYouthConventionasapartfromfunandentertainment,therewerealotofkeytakeaways.ThereisnobetterplatformthanN.S.Sforyoungsterstoshowcasetheirtalentandskillsandatthesametimesharetheirconcernforthesociety.'SustainableDevelopment'isthecore ideologyonwhichN.S.SActivitiesarecentered,and ithasproduced tens-of–thousandsofresponsible citizens over the several years post its inception. I'll always be grateful toN.S.S forprovidingmewiththisopportunityandurgeallyoungmindsouttheretojoinN.S.Sandprovideahelpinghandinthisnoblecause.
