MESSAGE FROM YOUR EXALTED RULERGreetings,

March signifies the end of the Elk year is finally coming to a close and the end of my term as Exalted Ruler. I often thought about this last message and what I would say to all of the members. Needless to say, the content has changed a few times, so here it goes!

First, it has been a privilege to represent Napa Lodge #832

as your Exalted Ruler. I am forever grateful for the support from the membership and the dedication of those members who never want recognition for the work and services they provide; from kitchen help, yard work, donations, etc., your commitment is noticed and really appreciated for all you have done for the Lodge. I also want to take this time to thank all of the Officers and their dedication and hard work they put in throughout this past year. And last, but not least, thank you to all the staff that contribute to the everyday running of the Lodge. They are truly dedicated and take pride in the services they provide! The success of this year is all due to everyone’s combined efforts.

As you may or may not know, election of Officers took place at the last meeting. Bob Fraid and Bob Niklewicz have graciously consented to continue as Chaplain and Esquire and Calvin Cox PER agreed to be Tiler. Elected Officers are as follows: Sheila Cox soon to be PER as Exalted Ruler; Bill Sollows as Leading Knight; Michael Sobelman as Loyal Knight; Janis Mousa as Lecturing Knight; David Harms as Inner Guard; Lindsay Wanagel as Treasurer; Judy Fisher as Secretary; and Tom McFarland as 5-Year Trustee. When you see your Officers, give them a big thank you for their commitment to the Lodge.

This past month Taco Tuesday started again and has been well attended. There was a big Friday Night BBQ/Valentine’s Day anniversary celebration in which over 120 members, family and friends came to help Len and Judy Fisher (60 years), Dave and Sandy Silveira (50 years) and Al and Sandy Brambrink (60 years) celebrate their anniversaries. They provided appetizers and music for all to enjoy and a good time was had by all! A big thank you to the celebrants for letting us all in on their celebration.

FYI, our facility had a surprise inspection of the kitchen and bar and was awarded the top rating! Congratulations to the staff for maintaining the high standards of the industry.

Coming up is the Homecoming weekend of Lodge member and CHEA State President Tim Jaeger. If you have not made a pre-paid reservation, they are due no later than March 2. Installation of Officers is on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00. Lunch will follow. Ritual Contest is April 24 and 25 in Ukiah. Anyone can come and watch the contest. A DDGER clinic is on Sunday, April 26 and is mandatory for the ER, Secretary, Leading Knight, Chairman of the Trustees and anyone in the Lodge that holds a District position.

Membership renewal is due on April 1st. We have had a net gain of members for this year. Judy has the full Membership Report information for all to review in every Bulletin.

Lastly, since this is not going to be my last message as ER, please note I have a new email: [email protected] . I look forward to another year to represent this Lodge as ER. I will be contacting members to see about committee assignments. Please let me know if you are interested or have a question as to what is available.

FROM YOUR LODGE SECRETARY

Hello all Members!!

This year is going by way too fast!! We already have our Officers for next year. Thank you so much to all of them for stepping up for the Lodge. It is a great way to get to know how Elkdom works and you become part of a team.

Last meeting on Wednesday, February 19th we initiated six new members into the Lodge. They are: Diana Gill, Margaret "Peggy" Legg, John M. Luna, Ronald Reid, Bradley Thornburg, Louis Webster. Please welcome them to the Lodge and encourage them to get involved.

Dues notices will be going out the first of the month. The dues this year will be $176.00. We very much appreciate members getting their dues in as quickly as possible. This helps the Lodge function better when we receive the dues in a timely manner. Thank you to those of you who always get your dues in right away.

On March 6th and 7th we will be celebrating the homecoming of our CHEA State President, Tim Jaeger and his lovely wife Sandy. That’ll be a super busy weekend around here with people coming from all over California and Hawaii. Wish us luck!

As always, if you have membership concerns please let me know.

Fraternally, Judy Fisher, Lodge Secretary

Napa Elks Spring is on the way! Happy March!

Activities Report March 2020 Updates on January/February Events: Chinese New Year's 1/22/29: The dinner menu was a delight. Stephanie outdid herself with the Chinese food. Not many Singapore slings were sold, my fault, I forgot to announce they were available. We had many opportunities for photos. I think Cyndi posted pictures in February's newsletter. There were Red & Gold decorations, Chinese place mats, Dragon Balloons, Green Tea Ice Cream with Fortune cookies. # 832 brought in 2020, year of the Rat with a bang. Spaghetti Night 1/29: This dinner

went over nicely, our members love spaghetti. We had a little over 60 in attendance. Sabine did the cooking, and

everything was delicious. Thank you Sabine. As mentioned before I know we all love our Burgers and Bocce, but it has

been nice having a change on the 5th Wednesday. Friday Night BBQ: Our first BBQ was on 1/31, we are back in the

groove on Fridays, come on down and join us. Super Bowl: We had an excellent turnout for Super Bowl. We also had a

lot of food, food and more food. Thank you everyone for your Pot Luck contribution, there are too many folks to thank

but I do want to mention a couple. Laura Kostelac's Chinese Chicken salad with chopsticks was not only tasty but

presentation was outstanding. Tom Solon's BBQed sausages went over great. And many thanks to Becky and the

bartenders for the decorations & balloons, Shoey for getting all 7 TV's working. I would say for most of us it was a fun

day, however, we all know 49ers lost....sad, for 49er fans. Valentine/Anniversary Event 2/14: Wonderful attendance for

our Valentine, Anniversary event. Last I heard attendance was between 140 to 150. Many thanks to the Mellow family and

Karl Hansen for hosting this BBQ and cooking all the steaks. Cyndi & Doc for cashiering, more thanks going to Becky,

Ilene & Francisco for helping with decorations. The three couples celebrating their 60th and 50th anniversaries had a

wonderful time, and thank everyone who brought cards and gave us anniversary wishes. Many of us received flowers,

champagne, balloons & candy. We also had three other couples that joined us to celebrate their anniversaries. Love was in

the air as we danced the Anniversary Waltz. A surprise for me was my husband showing up at the lodge looking great in

his white dinner jacket, black shirt and white tie, he was a cross between John Travolta and John Gotti. I loved the nice

surprise. We ended the evening with anniversary cake and danced to the music of Joe Geremia. Up and Coming events:

Wild Duck Dinner 2/29: updates in April's newsletter. Homecoming: 3/6 & 3/7, there will be NO Friday Night BBQ that

week. Pasta Dinner and entertainment Friday.-if you wish to attend the pasta dinner pre-paid reservations required in the

office. St Patrick's Day 3/13: tickets on sale soon. Installation: 3/28/20. Come support your officers.

ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS, old, new and volunteers

The Elks Ear

Well my day has started off on the wrong note. First off, I was asked to leave the office and then the boys at the bar

showed me a new dice game, but I got off easy and only had to buy 6 drinks. But the good news is the Hall

Association is having a duck dinner to raise funds. They will be serving 100 wild ducks. I guess they have raised the

limit since I hunted ducks. Well anyway I have been promised a Merganser!!

The President's Homecoming is now a lot closer that when we talked about it a year ago, and there is no place to

hide!! We could use some volunteers to help setup and clean up for the Friday, March 6th dinner. To volunteer,

you can just go to our office and they will tell you where to go.

Our new Elks year will start the first of April. The Installation of Officers will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March

28th. You are all invited to see how Elks work. Some of you new members and some of you seasoned Elks need to

think about joining our committees, this will let you see what we do.

Well let's try this again next month!!

Still waiting, but the best is yet to come.

Please Join us for the Events Meeting: April 2, 2020 - 6:00 Club Room

Needed:1. Lodge Activities Coordinator 2. Chairmen for events 2020-21

Everyone is welcomed, old, new members and volunteers!
