When he was a young boy he was captured by Irish pirates and taken across the sea to Ireland

where he was forced to work as a slave

him to Sliabh Mis in Antrim.

Escape Patrick was not happy in Ireland. He spent every

night praying to God. One night he heard a voice believing it to be God. God told him to go to a place where a boat was waiting for him that would take him to safety.

At home again. Patrick was delighted to be home again. He forgot Ireland

and the difficult life he had there. One night he had a dream.In that dream he saw the people of Ireland. They were begging him to come back and save them. He believed that God was persuading him to go back to Ireland to spread Christianity amongst the Irish pagans.

Studying Patrick went to France to study to become a priest.

In Ireland again. He got permission from Pope Celestine to go to Ireland to

spread the word of God. He returned to Ireland with other priests in the year 432 AD.

Tara By the time Patrick reached Ireland it was Easter. At the

same time, the celtic leaders were celebrating the pagan feast of May. It was tradition that the High King would light a bonfire on the Hill of Tara to open the feast celebrations.

Tara Patrick lit a fire on the hill which angered the High

King. He tried to quench the fire but he failed because God was helping Patrick. He used the shamrock with its three leaves to teach the people about the Blessed Trinity – The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.

His life in Ireland Patrick spent the rest of his life travelling

around Ireland spreading the word of God.
