And now for the info that all Year 6 want to know……….

What happens if you break school rules?

Bullying… Not that any of you would ever bully another student but this is a very serious rule to break. Your Head of House will speak to you, Mr Pratt or Mr Johnson may want to speak to you too and you may be put into isolation or even excluded. Chulmleigh Academy does not tolerate any forms of bullying. Talking when you shouldn’t be… Teacher detention during lunch time.

Chewing Gum in class… Teacher detention during lunch time. You may also be asked to clean it up!

Not doing or not handing in your homework… Teacher detention during lunch time, escalated to a detention with the Head of Department if you forget again and then BC2 detention. You may also be given days to attend the lunchtime homework club. Copying someone else’s work… Teacher detention. You may also be asked to move desks. Not playing by the rules in a game… You will definitely be a bit unpopular with your classmates, which is probably punishment enough. Stealing… Another really serious crime. Your Head of House will speak with you, Mr Pratt or Mr Johnson may become involved and the Police may be called. If found guilty you are likely to be excluded for a fixed period.

Your Mobile Phone goes off in class… Oppps! We want you to bring mobile phones with you to school, but not to use them when you’re here. They should be switched off during the day. We know you may need them to contact home if there’s a problem getting to and from school but if you are found using your phone in school it will be confiscated for the rest of day and you may have a teacher detention.

Wearing Incorrect Uniform… If a teacher or another member of staff spots that you aren’t wearing the correct uniform, they will speak with you immediately and also refer you to your Head of House. You will be expected to stick to the uniform rules. Your Head of House will ask you to ensure that you come into school in the correct uniform the next day. You may be isolated if you don’t, or don’t have a very good reason.

Why do you think we need rules and sanctions?

The Top Ten of the most commonly asked questions

Coming in at number 10……..What Tutor Group will I be in? If you have a brother or sister in the school then you will be in the same House as them but not the same Tutor Group. By the time you read this, your class teacher will have asked you to fill out a Year 6 Transition Info form, which will tell us who your friends are and what your interests are. We will then try to put you in the same Tutor group as some your friends. Number 9 - What time does school start/end/is break and lunch time? School starts at 8.55am for morning registration. Lessons begin at 9am. Each lesson last for 1 hour. Break time is 11am for 20 minutes. Lunch is from 1.20-2.20pm followed by afternoon registration between 2.20pm and 2.40pm. The last lesson of the day is from 2.40pm until 3.40pm, which is the end of the school day. Number 8 - What do I do if I feel ill? Tell your class teacher that you feel unwell. Your teacher will ask you to go to Reception and one of your friends may be asked to go with you. Reception will take you along to the Medical room and then call a first aider. Once the first aider has seen you, they will treat you and send you back to class, or call your parents for you to be collected. Number 7 - What bus will I be on and when do I get my bus pass? Your bus pass will arrive in the post to you during the summer holidays (usually 3rd week in August). The number of your bus and bus pick-up point will be on your bus pass. Number 6 - What food can I buy at lunch time? We have a canteen system in the College, which means that at break time and lunchtime you can go to the hall and buy a variety of meal deals, snacks and drinks with your Squid card. Meals include a weekly roast, salads, curry days, homemade pies, pasta with a choice of sauces, jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings, pizzas, baguettes, bagels, wraps and sandwiches. A daily vegetarian option is also offered. Alternatively you can bring a packed lunch which you may eat in the College hall. At the moment, the meal of the day costs £2.25 with pudding. It is a good idea to bring or buy something to eat at mid-morning break as lunch is not until 1.20 (later than you have it at Primary School), so it is a long time from breakfast to lunch! Number 5 - What do I do if I lose my Squid card?

Page 15: Name: Primary School documents... · there are clubs to join in drama, art, music, sport and many other areas of the school. Please get involved in as much as you can inside and outside

15

Tell Mrs Povey on Reception who will order you a new one. Replacement cards cost £3 though so try not to lose or break it. Keep it safe in a wallet. Number 4 - Can I bring my mobile into school? If you bring your mobile into school then you must have it switched off during the school day. And please be careful with it as it’s your own responsibility should it get damaged. Number 3 - What can I do if I am being bullied or am worried about something? Bullying is taken very, very seriously by the College. If you feel that you are being bullied please speak to your mentor, Head of House, Tutor, a favourite teacher, Mrs Goodwin or Miss Downs (actually any member of staff you feel comfortable with) and we will help you immediately. Please make sure you tell somebody; bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. You can chat to us about anything else that’s bothering you too and we can help or we know someone who can. Number 2 - What do I do if I get lost or can’t find the room I need? Ask at Reception or any student or member of staff. We will all be happy to help you find your way. And don’t worry – you’ll soon know your way around. And in the Number 1 position……. What exactly IS a BC2? A BC2 is a detention, usually with a member of the Senior Leadership Team (so that’s Mr Johnson, Mr Pratt or Mr Clarke), that takes place for 30 minutes during lunchtime. You will usually only get a BC2 if you have already had a teacher detention or a department detention but are still not following the rules as you should. You may have to have a BC2 if you break rules such as failure to attend a department or teacher detention, for persistent poor behaviour in class, persistent lack of homework, or if you use your mobile phone in school.

If you have any more questions you may find the answers on the College website: www.chulmleigh.net

Or you can email me on [email protected] marked for the

attention of Tracy Downs or just give me a call at the College.

See you in September – HAVE FUN!
