THE EVIDENCE FOR THN PROGRAM

● Scotland national program: 2013 report show 7% drop in overdose fatalities.

● Wales national program: 50% drop since inception of program in 2011.

AND ENGLAND....● England, no national

program: 32% rise in opioid related fatalities. That's a staggering 765 individuals lost due to opioid related fatalities in 2013. And still no resolve until October 2015????

NAG ENGLAND'S ACTION PLAN.

● MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) to publish draft regulations on Naloxone NOW!

● Dept of Health to implement national guidelines for THN programs. (It is their remit to do so and also to fund national program) NOW!

NAG ENGLAND'S ACTION PLAN.

● Public Health England to be more active in local direction around THN programs, making it priority (and also to do a cost benefit analysis around THN program)

● Public Health England to commission services in line with recommendation by World health Organisation for THN program.

NAG ENGLAND'S ACTION PLAN.

● Media strategy to raise awareness of the need for THN program in light of recent rise in opioid related fatalities. (In progress in a number of areas)

● Work with what we have in order to highlight what we don't and ensure that this is kept on the agenda through constant NAGging!!

● Form NALOXONE ACTION GROUPS in your local area and NAG, NAG, NAG!!!!

● GET TRAINED and pass the training on at every opportunity in whatever capacity you can.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: USER ACTIVISM

● Feed into forums and online social media campaigns on facebook, twitter, and any other platform you can link into.

● Lobby local commissioning bodies, MP'S, Health and wellbeing boards and anyone else who is involved in the care and support of those at high risk.

POSITIVE COMMUNITY OUTCOMES?

● Hundreds of lives potentially saved. ● Less risk of brain damage following non

fatal overdose situation.● Empowering PUD's by enabling them to be

part of the solution.● Increased self-worth, decreased stigma.

● Improved relationships with service providers.
