DECD Brightpath Trial
Exemptions in Term 1 2018
During 2017 Nailsworth Primary School, along with 64 other DECD schools, trialled a new and exciting writing assessment and reporting tool named Brightpath. The tool is the result of successful research undertaken through the University of Western Australia. Students from Years 1 – 7 wrote narratives and Foundation students wrote recounts.
The Brightpath tool provided our staff with a means of building a fine-grained understanding of writing development and obtaining a comparable teacher judgement of student work so that the judgement could be used to:
• monitor student growth in learning
• compare written performance across year levels and across our school and
• compare written performances over time.
Evidence of student learning collected using the Brightpath tool will empower our students, teachers and school to target teaching and learning for writing improvement.
There is currently an inaugural DECD Student Writing Exhibition in the DECD Flinders Street Gallery showcasing Brightpath writing samples. You are most welcome to visit the exhibition. Our school had two students, Angelos and Alissa, asked to have their narratives submitted for possible inclusion into this exhibition. We applaud both students on this achievement. Then our school was notified that Angelos’ narrative was selected. He proudly attended the opening of the exhibition when he also read out his work. Congratulations, Angelos.
If your child will be absent at the beginning of Term 1 next year, please come to the Front Office to complete an Exemption Form. This form will ensure we continue to have your child enrolled at Nailsworth Primary School.Thank you,
Anita Annicchiarico, Front Office [email protected]

Casual Day On December 1st, in Week 7, Nailsworth will have its last Casual Day for 2017. We are asking for a gold coin donation. The money raised will be going to towards school projects such as the re-development of the nature playground and the Friendship Corner.
Salvation Army Christmas Appeal On Friday November 24th Mark Foyle, the Public Relations Secretary of the Salvation Army, will attend our even week assembly. He will discuss the importance of donations, how we can help as a school, where donations will be dispersed and much more. If you are not already aware, the SRC have put up a Christmas tree in the library where students and families can freely donate non-perishable foods and other items. Each class has a list of food ideas and tips. The SRC is eager help the Salvation Army this year but we will make more of an impact if the whole school community is involved. We have until Friday Week 8 to collect donations. Thank you in advance. Louise Iannucci, SRC Coordinator [email protected]
Performing Arts Showcase 2017 Congratulations to all of the performers who participated in our Performing Arts Showcase last Thursday. It was a culmination of many weeks and months of building skills in singing, acting, playing an instrument, working on scripts, learning lines, creating props and solving staging problems. Students displayed a lot of teamwork over the past few months to help bring all of this together. I’m really proud of all of them, especially those who thought they couldn’t do it and who stepped outside of their comfort zone to perform on stage.I would especially like to mention our backstage helpers Meg and Isabelle from Room 21, who attended weekly Drama Club rehearsals, filled in for other students when they were away and conducted themselves very professionally in assisting Maria Daniells to manage the props and other equipment backstage. Daniel B from Room 9 managed the music and Ethan D in Room 8 and Azra from Room 9 videotaped and photographed our preview shows and the Thursday night performance. We are so fortunate to have these students and I’d like to thank them for sharing their knowledge and skills with us. Over the next few weeks Ethan and Azra will be editing the video and photos taken which will be used to produce a DVD of the performance. Keep an eye on the newsletter to find out when it will be available for purchase.Judy Hanel, Music and Drama Teacher [email protected]
Vacation Care Program Today you will receive the Vacation Care Program for the Christmas Holidays. Please book early to avoid disappointment. Excursion days are very popular and often book out in advance. To book please complete the attached booking form and return to OSHC with your deposit. Family accounts also are required to be paid up in full at the time of booking. Please make sure that your child attends Vacation Care in Sun Smart Clothing, if children are sent in strappy singlets or bare shoulders their play will be restricted to inside and shaded areas. All children are required to wear a hat.
OSHC Hats Starting first term of 2018 OSHC will be introducing an OSHC hat. We are introducing the hat so that all OSHC children can be recognised in the school yard, homebased vacation care and on excursions. It will be a different colour to the school hat, to help Educators with supervision and duty of care for children. In first term of 2018 an amount of $10 per child will be added to your account to make payment for the new hat. All new OSHC enrolments will be charged a hat fee of $10. We will name your child’s hat and ask that it be kept in your child’s bag at all times, so that it is readily available for OSHC sessions. If your child does not have an OSHC hat their play will be limited to the stage. If your child loses their hat you will be required to purchase a new one.Due to families being present in the yard before and after school all through the year, we are asking that OSHC children wear their hats ALL year while in our care. This is for the safety of our OSHC children and for ease of supervision for Educators. If you have any queries or concerns please contact Lauren or Michelle.Lauren Ryder, OSHC Director: [email protected]
