HEADLICE
Unfortunately we have had a few cases of headlice recently. We ask that
everyone PLEASE check your children's hair for lice and/or eggs and be
extra diligent during the School Holidays. Please treat if any are found and
if in doubt please treat anyway. The only way to eradicate our school of
this problem is if EVERYONE is proactive and checks and treats. Treatment
needs to continue for at least 6 weeks. Remember ALL members of the
family need to be treated.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING
Part of our PBL journey is to assist children during their transition to their classes throughout the day in a calm, settled and positive manner. Currently, students from our four mainstream classes have begun to line up before each session and at the end of the day under the top COLA area. This is having a positive effect on our students in helping to create a settled atmosphere before students transition to their next lesson.
Students are recognised for their respectful attitude, safe manner and responsible actions during these transitions and during the breaks. In the afternoon line up, parents are asked to come and collect their children from the lines if they are on school grounds, otherwise a staff member accompanies students to the gate, after school care or down to the bikes/scooters area to collect their belongings.
TEACHERS ARE LEARNERS
On Thursday and Friday this week, staff including executives and all teachers in the ED unit will be participating in training in the Berry Street Educational Model.
The Berry Street Education Model provides schools with the training, curriculum and strategies to engage even the most challenging students. This education initiative is different because it is based on proven positive education, trauma-informed and wellbeing practices that enable students’ academic and personal growth. The model is unique because it educates schools and their leaders to reinforce and sustain cognitive and behavioural change, thereby re-engaging young people in learning and progressing their academic achievement.
In 2016, nearly 5000 Australian school teachers from more than 500 schools undertook the Berry Street Education Model.
The model is offered as a suite of structured professional development, consultation and mentoring for school leaders and teachers. The model is based on instructor expertise, peer-collaboration, and opportunities for partici-pants to pilot learned strategies in their schools. Support between sessions is also provided.

ATTENDANCE EXPLANATION OF ABSENCES
If your child is absent from school, parents are required to provide an explanation for the absences within 7 days.
When a student returns to school after an absence, they must bring a note from their parent/carer, explaining the
absence and provide it to their class teacher.
Alternatively, parents can explain an
absence via the Skool Loop app under
the ’Absentee’ icon. This can be done
on the day of the absence or upon
returning to school.
