for TheLongestMorning

A big thank you to Sue Childs
and Lucie Ricci who coordinated
efforts to interview many of our
families so that the North Bay
community can hear their
personal stories about how Rotary
4Kids has helped them and whatNADY has done to improve their
lives. Community partners and
volunteers were also interviewed.
Everyone was invited to enjoy free
timbits and refreshments. It was a
lot of fun just getting together,
watching the kids play and
parents socialize and learn from
each other. Segments of these
interviews will be heard over thecourse of The Longest Morning
Ever that will run from April 3rd
to April 5th. More on page 4.
The YMCA of North Bay hasa long running history withthe Rotary Club of North Bay
and NADY. We have workedtogether to achieve what weenjoy today at the AquaticCentre. For instance, NADYpurchased the special lift thatassists those in wheelchairs inand out of the pool.
Every Saturday afternoon from1pm to 2 pm NADY familiesare able to enjoy free use of allthe facilities in the YMCA poolarea, whether it be relaxing inthe therapy pool or having funand exercising in the recreationpool. In July and August,NADYs pool time changes toFriday afternoons from 1pm to2pm to accommodate theRecreation Program.

NIPISSING TRACKERS
Jordon Mino, Frank Forrest, Domonique and Isaac Dubie and Erin Campbell enjoya sunny day on the slopes.
There was a big increase in the
numbe r of fa mili es and
children participating in the
downhill ski program this year.
The Nipiss ing Trackers,
coordinated by the amazing
Kay-Sea Taylor, have seen a
steady growth every year. Kay-
Sea leads a team of dedicated
volunteers who take the time to
train properly to ensure the
safety and enjoyment of all
involved.
Jordon Mino is an inspiration
for the younger skiers. Now an
adult, he independently takes
on any challenge the hills have
to offer. He is a great mentor,
providing encouragement and
advice.
This program would not be
possible without the support of
Rotary4Kids, Laurentian Ski
H i l l , NAD Y a n d m o s t
importantly, the volunteer ski
instructors.
Disability is the inability to see

A big thank you to Laurentian Ski
Hill and the many volunteers who
allow children and youth with
special needs and their families to
experience the thrill of downhill
skiing!

NADY Membership Information
In the past year, NADY and
One Kids Place created a
partnership that has resulted in
a new location for NADYs
recreation program. It is a great
fit and everyone looks forward
to moving ahead with a
common vision of how we can
best continue to offer quality
programs and opportunities for
children and youth with special
needs. With the support of thecommunity we know our goals
will be met. Thank you to all
our supporters!
NADY memberships must be renewed
annually. Memberships are valid between
January 1st and December 31st of each year.
Updated membership is required for
participation in the NADY programs. The
sooner you renew, the sooner you can take
advantage of all NADY has to offer.
While filling out the membership form,
please note that a voting member is a person
over the age of 18 who buys a NADY
membership. Please include the names of your
children, 12 and under, without special needs.
By doing so and including their age, they will
be able to participate in the NADY annual
Christmas Party, showcased on the front page
of this newsletter.
Participants of the Nipissing Trackers
Ski Program must ensure that their
membership is renewed before January 1st.
This enables to coordinator to organize the
number of volunteers they will need and to set
up the ski schedule in a timely fashion.
An nu al mem ber ships, dat ed an d
signed, are required by our insurance
company. It protects you and your volunteer
boards from liability in the case of any mishap.
Renewing your membership in December
helps your membership chair redact an
accurate and efficient membership list for use
in our programs.
Membership forms are available online
atwww.nady.ca under Get Involved
or you can contact the NADY office.
Letter from a ParentNADY
at One Kids Place
Routine and quality of life is very important in all our lives and evenmore important in the lives of those with special needs. The quality ofprograms that have been offered over the many years by NADY with themonetary help of the Rotary Club of North Bay and support of boardmembers, families, volunteers, and the community at large is an exampleof a community committed to continuing these very importantopportunities.
My son has benefited incredibly from the summer NADY programs. Hisdaily routines at home, at school and in the community throughout theyear are very important to his quality of life. Each day throughout the summer NADY runs an excellent programallowing for him and others to continue to have fun, socialize and thrive.
There has been a legacy from the outset of NADY that recognizes not
only the inclusion but also individual differences. Resourcefulness andcreativity within the program structure results in special relationships, wonderful memories and many friendships that are made for bothworkers and participants.
NADYs partnership with One Kids Place has enhanced the programfurther by having professional therapists trained in recreational activitiesfor those with special needs work side by side with young people whomentor participants keeping the program active, fun and safe.
Thank you to the North Bay Community for caring for our kids and theongoing generous support that we know we can always count on!
- Frank OHagan

I Am The Disabled Child I am the disabled child.I am your teacher. If you allow
me, I will teach you what is reallyimportant in life.
I will give you and teach you
unconditional love.I give to you my innocent trust,
my dependency upon you.I teach you of respect for others
and their uniqueness.I teach you about the sanctity of
life.
I teach you about how veryprecious this life is
and about not taking things for
granted.
I teach you about forgetting yourown needs
and desires and dreams.
I teach you giving.
Most of all, I teach you hope andfaith.
I Am The Disabled Child.- Unknown
I am the child who cannot talk.
You often pity me. I see it in your eyes. You
wonder how much I am aware of...I see
that as well. I am aware of much...whether
you are happy or sad or fearful, patient or
impatient, full of love and desire, or if you
are just doing your duty by me. I marvel at
your frustration, knowing mine to be far
greater, for I cannot express myself nor my
needs as you do. You cannot conceive my
isolation, so complete it is at times. I do not
gift you with clever conversation, cute
remarks to be laughed over and repeated. I
do not give you answers to your everyday
questions, responses over my well-being,
sharing my needs, or comments about the
world around me. I do not give you
rewards as defined by the world'sstandards...great strides in development
that you can credit yourself. I do not give
you understanding as you know it. What I
give you is so much more valuable...I give
you instead opportunities. Opportunities to
discover the depth of your character, not
mine; the depth of your love, your
commitment, your patience, your abilities;
the opportunity to explore your spirit more
deeply than you imagined possible. I drive
you further than you ever go on your own,
working harder, seeking answers to your
many questions, creating questions with noanswers.
I am the child who cannot walk.
The world sometimes seems to pass me by.
You see the longing in my eyes to get out of
this chair, to run and play like other
children. There is much you take for
granted. I want the toys on the top shelf. Ineed to go to the bathroom... oh...I've
dropped my spoon again. I am dependent
on you in these ways. My gift to you is to
make you aware of your great fortune,
your healthy back and legs, your ability to
do for yourself. Sometimes people appear
not to notice me; I always notice them. I
feel not so much envy as desire, desire to
stand upright, to put one foot in front of
the other, to be independent. I give you
awareness.
I am the child who is mentallyimpaired. I don't learn easily, if you
judge me by the world's measuring stick.
What I do know is infinite joy in the simple
things. I am not burdened as you are with
the strifes and conflicts of a more
complicated life. My gift to you is to grant
you the freedom to enjoy things as a child,
to teach you how much your arms around
me mean, to give you love. I give you the
gift of simplicity.
