Congratulations… To our 3rd graders who received Bibles during services on Sunday. During the 9:40am service Madeline Ross and Eli Roberts and during the 11:00am service Ava Wilke. Each child was recognized and received a Bible from Pastor Kent and CHUM.

Our Sympathy to Darlene Scheffer and family in the

death of her (Tom’s) grandnephew. Cards to Darcy Predmore Darcy has been a big part of the 9:40 service these past few years as our sound technician and past PowerPoint operator during the church service. This past year she has battled with bladder cancer and the treatments that go along with it. She left this past week for a 2 1/2 month stay in Houston after being accepted into a trial program of treatment. This means she will be away from friends, her children and CHUM. Mattie, her daughter, has shared how Darcy loves getting mail. Whether you know this wonderful lady or not, a card from you as a member of the CHUM family would mean so very much to her. Send cards to: Darcy Predmore % Karen Drexler 24123 Tayloe House Ln Katy, TX 77449 As well as cards your prayers for her during the course of this treatment would be much appreciated.

Chuck Chipman CHUM Volunteer

You will find Chuck Chipman in the choir loft during both morning services held in the sanctuary. Chuck has been attending CHUM for 21 years. He is a retired clergy since 1993 having served in Detroit, Syracuse and at St. Paul’s in Wichita. He served on the World Methodist Council for 20 years and helped with the World Methodist Social Affirmation (#886 in hymnal) in 1986. In 1971, he took 8 teenagers to work in Ireland for an entire summer. Chuck also served on the McCurdy staff in 1993-1994 in Española, NM. Chuck has been a very active volunteer at CHUM and still is active. He is a member of the Bell Choir as well as the Chancel Choir, and also a member of the Endowment and Mission committees. He started the Viceroy Sunday school class in 1994 and continues in it to this day. Did you know that Chuck currently works at J.R. Koontz Flowers? He also taught English at Wilbur Wright H.S. in Dayton, Ohio for 4 years. He graduated from WSU in 1997 with a major in German. He is a member of St. Paul’s UMC. The first Chipman came to the U. S. and married the daughter of John Howland, the man who fell overboard in the middle of the ocean off of the Mayflower. John was saved when he grabbed the end of a rope that was thrown out to him and they were able to pull him back aboard - he lived to be 80 years old! Chuck is 10th generation of THAT Chipman. We are thankful to have Chuck attending and being an important part of College Hill. Thanks Chuck! We appreciate all you do for CHUM.

AGAPE, Rm. 201 - Thank you Suzanne for providing the video of Thich Nhat

Hahns interview with Ram Dass. Messages included "taking care of your anger",

impermanence, inter-being and planting seeds of mindfulness. Bring magazines for

a class project Sunday. Hahn's treat next.

ARCHITECTS, Rm. B1 – We opened class with a long known hymn “Abide With

Me” and I noticed the words were written in 1793 and the music in 1823. I (Ruth)

like to look for the time music was written. We remember Maxine Whitted who

had a seizure and had to move to Riverside Care Home. We also have Doris in our

prayers and ask God to keep her constantly with Him. Enid continued with the

Dr. Billy Graham book and shared with us so much from it and that led us to into

lots of discussion which we always are good at! Just remember what God tells us

everyday if we just listen. Thanks Enid!

BUILDERS, Rm. 305 - We continue our study of “The Dead Sea Scrolls” chapter

16. The Halakhic Letters - Rituals Define the Sect. Keep Shawn (job interview in

Salem, OR), Marcella Hampton (lost her grandson), Ryan Montonye and family in

your prayers. Morgans will have treats.

COMMUNICATORS, Rm. 301 - Robin accompanied the class in singing Happy

Birthday to Marilyn & Sheryl plus Happy 42nd Anniversary to Patti & Brad. Thanks to

Sheryl for delivering this morning’s devotion “An Interview with God”. We

prayed for Trisha to recover from her shoulder injury and for Debbie Snell who is

recovering from an illness. Next social is breakfast at Barry & Pam’s on Feb. 21st at

9:30am. John Brewer has devotions Sunday.

CONTEMPORARY STUDIES, Rm. B5/7 - Twenty-five enjoyed Spring-like

weather on this fine Sunday! Get Well wishes were sent to Gail Capper. Keith

Williamson returned to class and presented this week's lesson from The Gift of

Years on Adjustment and Fulfillment. Tabletalk focused on reviewing the burdens

and blessings of Adjustment to the exercise of living, and Fulfillment in the

damping-down time of our lives. Sunday, we review Mystery and Relationships.

DOUBLE CIRCLE, Rm. B4 - Lee opened class since President Bill is still

recovering. Betty gave the devotions - sharing about getting older and friendship!

Robin played for us as we sang “Open My Eyes That I May See”. Thank you

Robin, Lee, and Betty! Dr. Brake presented a wonderful lesson on serving

neighbors & serving God and sharing Jesus’ wisdom in loving our neighbors. We

are sending prayers to all that are ill and not here today. Blessings to all! Have a

wonderful week. We had 10 present in class today.

TRAVELING COMPANIONS, Chapel @ 11:00am - Join us for discussion on

spiritual development and personal growth.

VICEROY, Rm. B3 - When Marcus Borg writes about non-violence in general can

our small class make a difference? In the world of so much violence we are

considering how we CAN make a difference. Something to think about.

Meet Rev. Ivan Gonzalez Rev. Gonzalez serves at the Mission of St. John of God, the former Brookside UMC. Lloyd Hanna, our lay leader, wished to introduce us to this interesting man. The Great Plains UMC conference now owns the property and Chapel Hill UMC pays the utilities. The Central State Synod Lutheran, led by Dave Fulton from St. Luke’s at 9th and Waco, found Ivan and helps pay his salary. He shared stories of his new ministry and his commitment. He is originally from El Salvador, ordained a Catholic priest, served in NYC, changed to Lutheran and is now in Wichita. He has also moved his family into the Plainview area. Contact Lloyd Hanna for more information if you have questions or wish to know more about Rev. Gonzalez.
