Any mounting of the device on awall or ceiling should follow the maufacturers instructions andshould use a mounting accessory recommended by the manu-facturer.

Any outdoor antenna must be located away from all power lines.

OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDINGIf an outside antenna is connected to your tuner or tuner-preamplifier, be surethe antenna system is grounded so as to provide some protection against volt-age surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National ElectricalCode, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, provides information with respect to propergrounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire toan antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna dis-charge unit, connection to grounding electrodes and requirements for thegrounding electrode.

a. Use No. 10 AWG (5.3mm2) copper, No. 8 AWG (8.4mm2) aluminium, No. 17AWG (1.0mm2) copper-clad steel or bronze wire, or larger, as a ground wire.b. Secure antenna lead-in and ground wires to house with stand-off insulatorsspaced from 4-6 feet (1.22 - 1.83 m) apart.c. Mount antenna discharge unit as close as possible to where lead-in entershouse.d. Use jumper wire not smaller than No.6 AWG (13.3mm2) copper, or the equiva-lent, when a separate antenna-grounding electrode is used. see NEC Section810-21 (j).

QUICK START. 1. Connect the speakers to the rear Speaker termi-nals and sources to the relevant rear input sockets.2. Plug in the AC power cord.3. Press the POWER button to turn the NAD 317 on.4. Press the required input selector.

NOTES ON INSTALLATION.Your NAD 317 should be placed on a firm, level

surface. Avoid placing the unit in direct sunlight ornear sources of heat and damp.

Allow adequate ventilation. Do not place the unit ona soft surface like a carpet. Do not place it in anenclosed position such a bookcase or cabinet thatmay impede the air-flow through the ventilation slots.

Switch the unit off before making any connections.The RCA connectors on your NAD 317 are colourcoded for convenience. Red and white are Right andLeft audio respectively, and yellow for NAD-Link.

The NAD 317 comes with RCA leads for basic con-nections. Where additional leads are required, usehigh quality leads and connectors for optimum perfor-mance and reliability. Ensure that leads and connec-tors are not damaged in any way and all connectorsare firmly pushed home.

For best performance, use quality speaker leads of16 gauge thickness or more.

If the unit is not going to be used for some time,disconnect the plug from the AC socket.

Should water get into your NAD 317, shut off thepower to the unit and remove the plug from the ACsocket. Have the unit inspected by a qualified servicetechnician before attempting to use it again.

Do not remove the cover, there are no user-ser-viceable parts inside.

Use a dry soft cloth to clean the unit. If necessary,lightly dampened the cloth with soapy water. Do notuse solutions containing benzol or other volatileagents.

REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS.1. CD INPUT

Input for a CD or other line-level signal source. Usea twin RCA-to-RCA lead to connect the CD player leftand right Audio Outputs to this input. The NAD 317only accepts analogue signals from your CD player.

2. VIDEO INPUTInput for the audio signal from a stereo VCR (or

stereo TV/Satellite/Cable receiver) or other line-levelaudio source. Using twin RCA-to-RCA leads, connectto the left and right Audio Out of the unit to theseinputs. Note: These are audio inputs only.

3. TUNER INPUTInput for a Tuner or other line-level signal source.

Use a twin RCA-to-RCA lead to connect the Tunerleft and right Audio Outputs to this input.

4. AUX INPUTInput for additional line level input signals such as

another CD player. Use a twin RCA-to-RCA lead toconnect the auxiliary units left and right AudioOutputs to this input.

5. TAPE 1 IN, OUTConnections for analogue recording and playback

to an audio tape recorder of any type. Using twinRCA-to-RCA leads, connect to the left and rightAudio Output of the tape machine to the TAPE 1 INconnectors for playback and tape monitoring.Connect the left and right Audio Input of the tapemachine to the TAPE 1 OUT connectors for record-ing.

6. TAPE 2 IN, OUTConnections for analogue recording and playback

to a secondary audio tape recorder of any type. Usingtwin RCA-to-RCA leads, connect to the left and rightAudio Output of the tape machine to the TAPE 2 INconnectors for playback and tape monitoring.Connect the left and right Audio Input of the tapemachine to the TAPE 2 OUT connectors for record-ing.

7. PRE OUT, MAIN INConnections to an external pre-amplifier, power

amplifier or processor, such as a surround-sounddecoder. In normal use these should be connectedtogether using the links supplied. To connect yourNAD 317 to external processor or amplifier sectionsfirst remove these links. Use a twin RCA-to-RCA leadto connect to the left and right Audio Input of thePower amp or processor to the Pre Out connectors.

Connect the left and right Audio Output of the Pre-amp or processor to the Main In connectors.

Note: The Pre-Out output signal will be affected bythe NAD 317s volume and tone control settings.

8. NAD-LINK IN, OUT The NAD-Link connector is used to pass com-

mands from the remote control handset to and fromother units fitted with NAD-Link connectors. Thisallows centralised control of a complete system orgives system control from more than one room. Tofunction with other units, connect the NAD 317sNAD-Link OUT to the NAD-Link IN on the other unit.NAD-Link connectors can be daisy-chained, IN toOUT, so that a whole system can be controlled fromthe remote control facilities of one unit.

A single NAD-Link connection from a hi-fi system ina second room will allow remote control of MultiRoom systems.

9. SPEAKERSSpeaker terminals for speakers with an impedance

of 4 ohms or more.Connect the right speaker to the terminals marked

R + and R- ensuring that the R+ is connected tothe + terminal on your loudspeaker and the R- is

connected to the loudspeakers - terminal. Connect the terminals marked L+ and L- to the

left speaker in the same way.Always use heavy duty (16 gauge or thicker)

stranded wire to connect loudspeakers to your NAD317.

The high-current binding post terminals can beused as a screw terminal for cables terminating inspade or pin connectors or for cables with bare wireends.

SPADE CONNECTORS These should be slotted under the terminals screw

bushing, which is then fully tightened. Ensure theconnector is tightly secured and there is no danger ofbare metal from spade connectors touching the backpanel or another connector, as this may cause dam-age.

BARE WIRES AND PIN CONNECTORSBare wires and pin connectors should be inserted

into the hole in the shaft of the terminal. Unscrew thespeaker terminals plastic bushing until the hole in thescrew shaft is revealed. Insert the pin or bare cableend into the hole and secure the cable by tighteningdown the terminals bushing.

Avoid any danger of bare metal from the speakercables touching the back panel or another connector.Ensure that there is only 1/2 (1cm) of bare cable orpin and no loose strands of speaker wire.

10. SOFT CLIPPINGWhen an amplifier is driven beyond its specified

power output, a hard distorted sound can be heard onvery loud sounds. This is caused by the amplifier cut-ting off or hard clipping the peaks of sound that itwas not designed to reproduce. The NAD SoftClipping circuit gently limits the output of the systemto minimize audible distortion if the amplifier is over-driven.

If your listening involves moderate power levels youmay leave the Soft Clipping switch to Off. If you arelikely to play at high levels, that could stretch theamplifiers power capability, then switch Soft ClippingOn.

The Soft Clipping LED on the front panel will illumi-nate when the amplifier is in Soft Clipping mode.

11. BRIDGE SWITCHThe NAD 317 can be used as part of a higher

power stereo or home-theatre system, by connectingadditional power amplifiers. If the power amp sectionin the NAD 317 is to be used to drive a single speak-er, then use the Bridge switch to run the left and rightpower amplifiers as a single channel, high power unit.Set the Bridge switch to the Bridge position and con-nect the speaker to the terminals marked L + andR+ ensuring that the L+ is connected to the + ter-minal on your loudspeaker and the R+ is connectedto the loudspeakers - terminal. In Bridged mode leftchannel is taken as the input and the NAD 317 willproduce approximately 240W into an 8 ohm loud-speaker. In this mode, the amplifier sections will reactas though the speaker impedance has been halved.

So speakers with very low impedances (under 4 )are not recommended as they may cause the amplifi-ers thermal cut-out to operate if played at high levels.

The Bridge LED on the front panel will illuminatewhen the amplifier is in Bridge mode.

12. AC LINE CORD.After you complete all connections to the preampli-

fier, plug the AC line cord into a live AC socket.

13. AC CONVENIENCE OUTLETS (U.S.CANADIAN MODELS ONLY

The AC power cords of other units in the audiosystem can be connected directly to the AV 711sunswitched AC outlets. If another stereo componentis plugged into the UNSWITCHED AC outlet, powerwill be supplied whether your AV711 is on or off.

FRONT PANEL CONTROLS.POWER, SPEAKERS AND HEADPHONEFUNCTIONS.1. POWER

Pressing the POWER switch turns the unit On andafter a short pause, the Power indicator LED will illu-minate green. Pressing the POWER switch again willturn the amplifier Off.

When the NAD 317 is switched On, pressing theStandby button on the remote handset will put theNAD 317 into Standby mode and the Power indicatorwill turn amber. The amber Power indicator showsthat power is being supplied to the NAD 317, but thesystem is currently in the Standby Mode.

CAUTION: When in Standby, power is still suppliedto your NAD 317. You should switch it off using thefront panel Power switch when it is not being used forlong periods of time.

2. HEADPHONE SOCKETA 1/4 stereo jack socket is supplied for headphone

listening and will work with conventional headphonesof any impedance. Inserting a headphone jack intothis socket automatically switches off the loudspeak-ers. The volume and tone and balance controls areoperative for headphone listening. Use a suitableadapter to connect headphones with other types ofconnectors, such as 3.5mm stereo personal stereojack plugs.

Warning: Make certain that the volume control isturned to minimum (fully anti-clockwise) before con-necting headphones.

Listening at high levels can damage your hearing.

TONE FUNCTIONS3. BASS & TREBLE CONTROLS

The NAD 317 is fitted with BASS and TREBLE tonecontrols to adjust the tonal balance of your system.

The 12 oclock position is flat with no boost or cut

and a detent indicates this position. Rotate the con-trol clockwise to increase the amount of Bass orTreble. Rotate the control anti-clockwise to decreasethe amount of Bass or Treble. The Tone controls donot affect recordings made using the Tape outputsbut will affect the signal going to the Pre-amp output(Pre Out).

4. TONE DEFEATThe TONE DEFEAT switch bypasses the tone con-

trol section of the NAD 317. If the Tone Controls arenot normally used and left in the 12 oclock position,then it is advisable to switch out the Tone Controlsection altogether by using this switch. In the outposition, the Tone Control circuits are active, pushingthe TONE DEFEAT switch in bypasses the ToneControl section.

INPUT SELECTORS.5. INPUT SELECTORS

These buttons select the active input to the NAD317 and the signal sent to the loudspeakers, theTape outputs and the PRE OUT sockets.

LEDs inside each button will indicate which input iscurrently selected.

TUNER: Selects the tuner (or other line-levelsource) connected to the Tuner sockets as the activeinput.

AUX: Selects a line-level source connected to theAUX sockets as the active input.

CD: Selects the CD (or other line-level source) con-nected to the CD sockets as the active input.

VIDEO: Selects the VCR (or stereoTV/Satellite/Cable receiver) connected to the VCRsockets as the active input.

TAPE FUNCTIONS.6. TAPE 1 MONITOR/TAPE 2

Selects the output from a tape recorder when play-ing back tapes or monitoring recordings being madethrough the Tape 1 sockets. Press the Tape 1 buttononce to select it and again to return to the normalinput selection.

Tape 1 is a tape Monitor function which does notoverride the current input selection. For example, ifthe CD is the active input when TAPE 1 is selected,then the CD signal will continue to be selected andsent to both the TAPE 1, and TAPE 2 OUTPUT sock-ets, but it is the sound from the recorder connected toTape 1 that will be heard on the loudspeakers.

To show which input is active when in Tape Monitormode, its indicator light will stay lit.

TAPE 2: Selects Tape 2 as the active input.

TO MAKE A RECORDINGWhen any source is selected, its signal is also fed

directly to any tape machine connected to the TAPE1 or TAPE 2 OUTPUTS for recording.

TAPE TO TAPE COPYINGYou can copy between two tape machines connect-

ed to your NAD 317. Put the source tape in the

machine connected to Tape 2 and the blank tape intothe recorder connected to Tape 1. By selecting TAPE2 input you can now record from Tape 2 to Tape 1and monitor the signal coming from the original tape.

Also you can use Tape 1 as the source and copy toTape 2 but Tape 2 input has to be selected for theduration of the recording. By selecting Tape 1 Monitorinput, you can now monitor the signal comng from theoriginal tape.

CAUTION: WHEN TAPE 2 IS SELECTED, ONLYONE TAPE MACHINE SHOULD BE SET INRECORD MODE. IF BOTH ARE SET IN RECORDMODE, WITH TAPE 2 SELECTED, A FEEDBACKLOOP RESULTS WHICH MAY CAUSE A LOUD"WHISTLE OR HOWL", POTENTIALLY DAMAGINGYOUR AMPLIFIER OR LOUDSPEAKERS.

BALANCE AND VOLUME.7. BALANCE

The BALANCE control adjusts the relative levels ofthe left and right speakers. The 12 oclock positionprovides equal level to the left and right channels. Adetent indicates this position.

Rotating the control clockwise moves the balancetowards the right. Rotating the control anti-clockwisemoves the balance to the left. The BALANCE controldoes not affect recordings made using the Tape out-puts but will affect the signal going to the Pre-ampoutput (Pre Out).

8. VOLUMEThe VOLUME control adjusts the overall loudness

of the signals being fed to the loudspeakers. It ismotor driven and can be adjusted from the remotecontrol handset. The VOLUME control does not affectrecordings made using the Tape outputs but willaffect the signal going to the Pre-amp output (PreOut).

INDICATORS AND REMOTE SENSOR9. PROTECTION

In Protection mode; the loudspeakers have beendisconnected by an internal relay. This mode is acti-vated briefly during turn-on and turn-off, to protect thespeakers from low-frequency thumps. At other timesthe Protection mode may be activated by severeoverheating, short-circuited speaker wiring, or aninternal fault.

If the Status light continues to glow red, switch thePower OFF, allow to cool and then switch Power ON.If the protection system interrupts the sound evenwhen the amplifier is cool, return the amplifier to yourNAD dealer for service. The protection relays may bedisengaging to protect your speakers from a circuitfault, such as an improper DC voltage at the speakerterminals.

10. SOFT CLIPPING Shows that the NAD 317 is in Soft Clipping mode.

11. BRIDGEShows that the NAD 317 is in bridged mode.

12. SENSORSensor for receiving the infra-red signals from your

remote handset. An LED in the Power On/Off buttonwill light when a signal is being received from theremote handset.

REMOTE CONTROL HANDSET.The Remote Control handset handles all the key

functions of the NAD 317 and has additional controlsto remotely operate NAD Tuners, Cassette and CDmachines. It will operate up to a distance of 16ft (5m).

Alkaline batteries are recommended for maximumoperating life. Two AA (R6) batteries should be fittedin the battery compartment at the rear of the RemoteControl handset. When replacing batteries, check thatthey have been put in the right way round, as indicat-ed on the base of the battery compartment.

Please refer to previous sections of the manual fora full description of individual functions.

Note: The remote control handset supplied is theNAD universal remote and can be used on anyremote controllable NAD system. Not every functionon it may be available on your particular unit.

NOTES CONCERNANT LINSTALLATIONPoser le NAD 317 sur une surface stable, plane et

Mettre lappareil hors tension avant de raliser lesconnexions. Les connecteurs RCA phono de votreNAD 317 comportent des codes couleurs afin denfaciliter le branchement. Le Rouge et le Blanc corre-spondent respectivement laudio Gauche et Droitet le jaune sert reprer la Liaison-NAD.

Le NAD 317 est fourni avec des cbles RCA pourassurer les branchements de base. Sil faut descbles supplmentaires, nutiliser que des cbles etdes connecteurs de trs bonne qualit de manire obtenir une fiabilit parfaite et des performancesoptimales. Vrifier que les cbles et les connecteursne prsentent aucune dtrioration, et que tous lesconnecteurs sont bien enfoncs jusquen bute.

Pour obtenir les meilleures performances, utiliserdes cbles dune paisseur gale ou suprieure aucalibre 16 pour relier votre amplificateur de puis-sance aux haut-parleurs.

Si lappareil doit rester inutilis pendant un certaintemps, dbrancher le cordon dalimentation de laprise de secteur murale.

Si de leau pntre lintrieur du NAD 317,couper lalimentation de lappareil et retirer la fichede la prise secteur. Faire contrler lappareil par untechnicien de service aprs vente qualifi, avanttoute tentative de remise en service.

Ne pas retirer le couvercle. A lintrieur, il ny aaucun lment sur lequel lutilisateur peut intervenir.

Utiliser un chiffon doux sec et propre pour nettoyerlappareil. Si ncessaire, humecter le chiffon avec unpeu deau savonneuse.

Ne pas utiliser de solution contenant du benzol outout autre agent volatile.

BRANCHEMENTS SUR LA FACEARRIERE

1. CD INPUT [ENTREE DISQUE AUDIONU-MERIQUE (CD)]

Entre pour un lecteur de disques audion-umriques (CD) ou pour une autre source de signalde niveau ligne. Utiliser un cble double RCA--RCApour relier les Sorties Audio gauche et droite dulecteur de CD cette entre. Le NAD 317 accepteuniquement des signaux analogiques en provenancede votre lecteur CD.

2. VIDEO INPUT [ENTREE VIDEO]Entre pour le signal audio en provenance dun

magntoscope (ou de tout autre source audio deniveau ligne. A laide de cbles doubles RCA--RCA, relier les connecteurs de Sortie Audio [AudioOut] gauche et droit de lappareil ces entres.Nota : il sagit dentres audio uniquement.

3. TUNER INPUT [ENTREE TUNER]Entre destine un Tuner ou une autre source

de signal de niveau ligne. Utiliser un cble doubleRCA--RCA pour brancher les Sorties Audiogauche et droite cette entre.

4. AUX INPUT [ENTREE AUX]Entre pour dautres signaux de niveau ligne tels

que la sortie en provenance dun autre lecteur dedisques audionumriques [CD]. A laide dun cbledouble RCA--RCA, brancher les Sorties Audiogauche et droite de lunit auxiliaire cette entre.

5. TAPE 1 IN/OUT [ENTREE/SORTIEMAGNETOPHONE 1]

Branchements pour enregistrement et lectureanalogique sur un magntophone audio de nimportequel type. A laide de cbles doubles RCA--RCA,relier les connecteurs de Sortie Audio gauche etdroit du magntophone aux connecteurs dENTREEMAGNETOPHONE 1 [TAPE 1 IN] pour la lecture etpour la fonction moniteur de bande. Relier les con-necteurs dEntre Audio gauche et droit du magn-tophone aux connecteurs de SORTIE MAGNETO-PHONE 1 [TAPE 1 OUT] pour lenregistrement.

6. TAPE 2 IN/OUT [ENTREE/SORTIE MAGNETOPHONE 2]

Branchements pour enregistrement et lectureanalogique secondaire sur un magntophone audiode nimporte quel type. Pour brancher votre NAD 317 unprocesseur externe ou des modules damplificationexternes, il faut commencer par retirer ces cavaliers.A laide de cbles doubles RCA--RCA, relier lesconnecteurs dEntre Audio gauche et droit delamplificateur de puissance aux connecteurs deSORTIE PREAMPLI [PRE OUT].

Relier les connecteurs de Sortie Audio gauche etdroit du pramplificateur ou du processeur aux con-necteurs dENTREE AMPLI DE PUISSANCE[MAIN IN].

Nota : Le signal de Sortie Pramplificateur estaffect par les rglages du volume sonore et de latonalit du NAD 317.

8. NAD-LINK OUT [SORTIE LIAISON-NAD]Le connecteur de Liaison-NAD [NAD-Link] sert

relayer les commandes mises par la tlcommandevers et en provenance dautres appareils quips deconnecteur de Liaison-NAD. Cela permet dassurerune commande centralise pour tout un rseau, oupermet de tlcommander la chane depuis plusieurspices. Pour assurer le relais vers dautres appareils,relier le connecteur de SORTIE Liaison-NAD [NAD-Link OUT] du NAD 317 lENTREE NAD-Link delautre appareil. Il est possible de relier les con-necteurs de Liaison-NAD en chane, ENTREE versSORTIE, et donc de commander tout un rseaudappareils laide de la tlcommande dun seuldentre eux.

Un simple branchement de Liaison-NAD en prove-nance dune chane Hi-fi situe dans une autre picepermettra de tlcommander les rseaux Multi-Salles.

9. HAUT-PARLEURSBornes prvues pour le branchement de haut-par-

leurs dune impdance de 4 ohms ou plus.Brancher le haut-parleur droit sur les bornes

repres R+ et R-, en sassurant que le R+ estreli la borne + de votre haut-parleur et que R-est reli la borne - de votre haut-parleur.

Brancher les bornes repres L+ et L- au haut-parleur gauche en procdant de la mme manire.

Nutiliser que du fil torsad haute puissance (cali-bre 16 ou plus), pour brancher les haut-parleurs votre NAD 317.

On peut utiliser les bornes serre-fils pour courantslevs comme bornes visser pour les cbles com-portant des cosses plates ou des broches, ou pourdes cbles comportant des fils nus.

COSSES PLATES.On intercale ces cosses sous la bague visser de

la borne, avant de la serrer. Vrifier que le con-necteur est bien serr, et quil ny a aucun dangerque le mtal nu de la cosse ne touche le panneauarrire ou un autre connecteur, sous peine de provo-quer des dtriorations.

FILS NUS ET BROCHESLes fils nus et les broches sinsrent dans le trou

diamtral perc dans la tige de la borne. Desserrer labague en plastique de la borne de haut-parleurjusqu ce que le trou axial dans la tige soit visible.Insrer la broche ou le fil nu dans le trou, puis fixer lecble en vissant la bague de la borne.

Eviter tout risque que le mtal nu des cbles dehaut-parleurs ne touche le panneau arrire ou unautre connecteur. Sassurer que la longueur dnudeou la longueur de la broche ne dpasse pas 1/2(1 cm), et quil ny a aucun brin libre.

10. SOFTCLIPPING [ECRETAGE DOUX]Lorsquun amplificateur est pouss au del de sa

puissance de sortie spcifie, on entend un son duret dform lors des passages sonorit forte. Celaprovient du fait que lamplificateur coupe ou crtede faon dure les pointes sonores pour lesquelles saconception ne permet pas la reproduction. Le circuitdcrtage doux de NAD limite en douceur la formedonde la sortie, pour minimiser la distorsion audi-ble lorsque lamplificateur est pouss au del de seslimites.

Si votre coute comporte des niveaux modrs depuissance, vous pouvez laisser l interrupteurdEcrtage Doux [Soft Clipping] sur Arrt [Off]. Si, parcontre, vous pensez passer de la musique desniveaux trs levs, susceptibles de dpasser lacapacit de puissance de lamplificateur, nous pr-conisons de mettre linterrupteur dEcrtage Doux[Soft Clipping] sur Marche [On].

La diode lectroluminescente Ecrtage Doux[Soft Clipping] sallume sur la face parlante, lorsquele mode dEcrtage Doux est actif.

11. BRIDGE SWITCH [SELECTEUR DE PONTAGE]

Il est possible dintgrer le NAD 317 dans unechane stro de plus grande puissance, ou dans unsystme de Salle Audio-visuelle Domicile, en yajoutant des amplificateurs de puissance supplmen-taires. Si la section amplificateur de puissance duNAD 317 va tre utilise pour piloter un seul haut-parleur, utiliser le slecteur de Pontage [Bridge] pourfaire fonctionner les amplificateurs de puissance droitet gauche comme une seule voie de grande puis-sance. Aprs avoir plac le slecteur de pontage enposition Pontage [Bridge], brancher le haut-parleuraux bornes repres L+ et R+, en veillant ce quele L+ soit reli la borne + de votre haut-parleur etle R+ la borne -. En mode pont, la voie gaucheest utilise comme entre, et le NAD 317 gnre env-iron 240 W dans un haut-parleur de 8 ohms. Dans cemode, les deux sections de lamplificateur ragissentcomme si lon avait divis limpdance du haut-par-leur par deux. Il est donc dconseill dutiliser deshaut-parleurs dimpdance trs faible (moins de 4 ),car ils risqueraient de provoquer le dclenchement dudisjoncteur thermique de lamplificateur en casdcoute un niveau sonore lev.

La diode lectroluminescente Pontage [Bridge]sallume sur la face parlante, lorsque lamplificateurest en mode Pontage.

12. CORDON DALIMENTATION SECTEURAprs avoir effectu tous les raccordements au

pramplificateur, branchez le cordon dalimentationsecteur sur une prise murale sous tension.

13. SORTIES SECTEUR (Versions US ET CANADIEN uniquement)

Il est possible de brancher les cbles secteurdautres appareils directement sur les sorties secteurcommutes de lAV 711.

Si lon branche un autre module stro sur la sortiesecteur NON COMMUTEE [UNSWITCHED], lalimen-tation de ce module sera assure que votre AV 711soit allum ou teint.

COMMANDES SUR LA FACE PARLANTEFONCTIONS MARCHE/ARRET, HAUT-PAR-LEURS ET CASQUE1POWER [ MARCHE/ARRET]

Une impulsion sur l interrupteur deMARCHE/ARRET [POWER] met lappareil sous ten-sion et, quelques secondes plus tard, allume la diodelectroluminescente Marche [Power] en vert. Unenouvelle impulsion sur l interrupteur deMARCHE/ARRET remet lamplificateur hors tension.

Lorsque le NAD 317 est sous tension, une impul-sion sur le bouton de mise en Veille [Standby] de latlcommande met le NAD 317 en mode Veille ; ladiode lectroluminescente Marche [Power] passe duvert au amber. Le tmoin amber de Veille indique quele NAD 317 est aliment en lectricit, mais que lachane est actuellement en mode Veille.

ATTENTION : En mode Veille, le NAD 317 restealiment en lectricit. Il faut mettre le rcepteur horstension laide de la commande Marche/Arrt[Power] sur la face parlante, lorsquil doit rester inutil-is pendant une priode prolonge.

2. PHONES [PRISE CASQUE]Une prise jack 1/4 est prvue pour permettre

lcoute sur casque et fonctionne pour tout type decasque conventionnel, quelle que soit son imp-dance. Le fait de brancher un jack de casque surcette prise coupe automatiquement les haut-parleurs.Les commandes de volume sonore, de tonalit et debalance agissent aussi sur lcoute sur casque.Utiliser un adaptateur appropri pour brancher descasques quips dun autre type de connecteur, telquun jack strophonique de 3,5 mm du typebaladeur stro.

Attention: Veiller ce que la commande de volumesonore soit rgle au minimum (bute anti-horaire)avant de brancher le casque.

Lcoute des niveaux sonores levs peutentraner des dommages auditifs permanents.

FONCTIONS TONALITE3. BASS & TREBLE [COMMANDES DES

GRAVES ET DES AIGUS]Le NAD 317 est quip de commandes de

GRAVES [BASS] ET dAIGUS [TREBLE], qui permet-tent de rgler la tonalit globale de votre chane.

La position mdiane (12 heures) correspond unecourbe plate, sans amplification ni attnuation ; unlger dclic peut tre ressenti dans le mouvement dubouton cet endroit. Tourner le bouton en senshoraire pour amplifier les Graves ou les Aigus.Tourner le bouton en sens anti-horaire pour attnuerles Graves ou les Aigus. Les commandes de tonalitnaffectent pas les enregistrements raliss partirdes sorties Magntophone mais agissent cependantsur le signal envoy la sortie Pramplificateur[PRE OUT].

4. TONE DEFEAT [TONALITE NEUTRE].Les circuits de tonalit du NAD 317 sont con-

tourns lorsque la fonction TONALITE NEUTRE[TONE DEFEAT] est active. Si lon nutilise pas lescommandes de tonalit, cest dire quelles restenttoujours en position mdiane (12 heures), il est con-seill de mettre les circuits de rglage de la tonalitcompltement hors circuit laide de ce bouton. Enposition sortie, les circuits de tonalit sont actifs ; lefait denfoncer le bouton TONALITE NEUTRE [TONEDEFEAT] contourne les circuits de rglage de latonalit.

SELECTEURS ENTREE5 INPUTS [SELECTEURS ENTREE]

Ces boutons permettent de slectionner lentreactive du NAD 317 ainsi que le signal envoy auxhaut-parleurs, aux sorties Magntophone [Tape] etaux connecteurs Pramplificateur [PRE OUT].

Une diode lectroluminescente est prvue danschaque bouton, pour indiquer laquelle des entresest actuellement slectionne.

TUNER: Slectionne le tuner (ou toute autresource de niveau ligne) branch aux connecteursTuner, comme lentre active.

AUX: Slectionne une source de niveau ligne con-necte lentre AUX, comme entre active.

DISQUE AUDIONUMERIQUE [CD]: Slectionne lelecteur de disques audionumriques (ou toute autresource de niveau ligne) branch aux connecteursCD, comme lentre active.

VIDEO: Slectionne le Magntoscope (ou letlviseur stro, le rcepteur Satellite ou le rcep-teur Cble) connect aux connecteurs Magntoscope[VCR], comme entre active.

FONCTIONS MAGNETOPHONE6. TAPE 1 [MAGNETOPHONE 1]

Slectionne le signal de sortie du Magntophone 1pour lire les bandes ou contrler les enregistrementsen cours sur les connecteurs Magntophone 1[Tape 1]. Appuyer une fois sur le boutonMagntophone 1 [Tape 1] pour slectionner celui-ci,et une deuxime fois pour revenir la slection nor-male des entres.

Magntophone 1 [Tape 1] est une fonction deMoniteur de Bande qui naffecte pas la slectiondentre actuelle. Si, par exemple, le lecteur CD estlentre active lors de la slection de MAGNETO-PHONE 1 [TAPE 1], le signal du lecteur CD continue tre envoy aux sorties denregistrement MAGNE-TOPHONE 1 [TAPE 1] et MAGNETOPHONE 2

POUR EFFECTUER UN ENREGISTREMENTQuelle que soit la source slectionne, son signal

est envoy directement vers nimporte quel enreg-istreur bandes magntiques reli aux SORTIESMAGNETOPHONE 1 ou MAGNETOPHONE 2[TAPE 1] ou [TAPE 2], pour tre enregistr le caschant.

COPIES DUNE BANDE A UNE AUTREVous pouvez copier des bandes magntiques dun

magntophone un autre, lorsquils sont relis votre NAD 317. Mettez la bande source dans lemagntophone reli Magntophone 2 [Tape 2], etla bande vierge dans le magntophone reli Magntophone 1 [Tape 1]. En slectionnant MAG-NETOPHONE 2 [TAPE 2] comme Entre, il est pos-sible de copier depuis le Magntophone 2 vers leMagntophone 1, tout en contrlant le signal enprovenance de la bande dorigine.

On peut aussi mettre la bande source dans leMagntophone 1 et la copier vers le Magntophone2, mais dans ce cas il faut slectionner l'entreMoniteur de Bande 1 pendant toute la dure de l'en-registrement.

ATTENTION : LORSQUE LE MAGNETOPHONE2 A ETE SELECTIONNE, UN SEUL MAGNETO-PHONE DOIT ETRE EN MODE D'ENREG-ISTREMENT. SI LES DEUX MAGNETOPHONESSONT EN MODE D'ENREGISTREMENT LORSQUELE MAGNETOPHONE 2 A ETE SELECTIONNE,CELA CREE UNE BOUCLE DE RETOUR DE SIG-NAL ET PEUT GENERER UN SIFFLEMENT OU UNHURLEMENT TRES INTENSE. CE RETOUR DESIGNAL PEUT ENDOMMAGER VOTRE AMPLIFI-CATEUR OU VOS HAUT-PARLEURS.

BALANCE ET VOLUME7. BALANCE

La commande de BALANCE rgle les niveauxrelatifs des sorties Gauche et Droite. La position cen-trale (12 heures) assure un niveau gal pour lesvoies Gauche et Droite. Un lger dclic peut treressenti dans le mouvement du bouton cet endroit.En tournant le bouton en sens horaire, on dporte labalance vers la droite. En tournant le bouton en sensanti-horaire, on dporte la balance vers la gauche.La commande de BALANCE naffecte pas les enreg-istrements raliss sur les sorties Magntophone[Tape], mais affecte le signal envoy la sortiePramplificateur [Pre-Out].

8. VOLUME.La commande de VOLUME sonore rgle le niveau

sonore global des signaux envoys aux haut-par-

leurs. Cette commande comporte un servo-moteur,et peut tre rgle laide de la tlcommande. Lacommande de VOLUME na aucun effet sur lesenregistrements effectus en utilisant les sortiesMagntophone.

INDICATEURS ET CAPTEUR DE TELECOMMANDE9. SECTEUR PROTECTION

En Mode Protection, les haut-parleurs ont tdconnects par un relais interne. Ce mode estactiv brivement lors de la mise sous tension ethors tension de lamplificateur, pour protger leshaut-parleurs des battements basse frquence. Lemode protection peut aussi, nimporte quelmoment, tre activ par une surchauffe trs impor-tante, par un court-circuit dans le cblage des haut-parleurs, ou par une panne interne.

Si la LED dEtat reste allume en rouge de faonpermanente, couper l alimentation lectrique.Lorsque ltage de sortie aura refroidi, les relaisrtabliront automatiquement la liaison avec les haut-parleurs, et le fonctionnement normal pourra repren-dre. Dans la plupart des cas, il suffira de rduire trslgrement le niveau sonore afin dviter dautresinterruptions dcoute.

Si les relais de protection interrompent souvent leson, plusieurs causes possibles sont envisager :un brin de fil dsolidaris provoque un court-circuitpartiel au niveau des bornes des haut-parleurs, oubien lamplificateur fonctionne haute puissance defaon continue avec une charge de trs faible imp-dance en mode pont, ou encore le dbit dairncessaire pour ventiler lamplificateur et dissiper lachaleur est obstru.

Si le relais de protection interrompt le son mmelorsque lamplificateur est froid, renvoyer lamplifica-teur votre distributeur NAD pour rparation : il sepeut que le circuit de protection agisse pour protgerles haut-parleurs dune dfaillance interne, tellequune tension CC incorrecte au niveau des bornesdes haut-parleurs.

10. SOFTCLIPPING [ECRETAGE DOUX]Indique que le NAD 317 est en mode dEcrtage

doux.

11. PONTAGEIndique que le NAD 317 est en mode pontage.

12. CAPTEURCapteur permettant de recevoir les signaux

infrarouges en provenance de votre combin de tl-commande. Une diode lectroluminescente dans lebouton de Marche/Arrt sallume lorsque lappareilreoit un signal de la tlcommande.

COMBINE DE TELECOMMANDELe combin de la Tlcommande reproduit toutes

les fonctions cls du NAD 317, et comporte aussides commandes supplmentaires permettant detlcommander Tuners, lecteurs de cassettes et dedisques audionumriques (CD) NAD, depuis une dis-tance pouvant aller jusqu 5 mtres.

Afin dobtenir une dure de fonctionnement satis-faisante, il est recommand dutiliser des piles alca-lines. Le compartiment des piles, larrire de laTlcommande, est prvu pour deux piles de type R6(AA). Lors du remplacement des piles, sassurer deleur bonne orientation conformment au dessin dansle fond du compartiment des piles.

Se reporter aux sections prcdentes du manuelpour des descriptions dtailles des diffrentes fonc-tions.

NOTA : La tlcommande fournie est la tlcom-mande universelle NAD, et peut tre utilise surnimporte quel systme NAD tlcommandable. Dece fait, il se peut que votre systme nexploite pastoutes les fonctions du combin.

STANDBY [VEILLE[] Commute le NAD 317 entreles modes Marche et Veille (Attention : Mettre le NAD317 hors tension l aide de la commandeMarche/Arrt [Power] sur la face parlante, lorsquildoit rester inutilis pendant une priode prolonge).

Das NAD 317-Gert hat fr die normalenAnschlsse RCA-Kabel. Sind zustzliche Kabelerforderlich, dann sollten fr optimale Leistung undzuverlssigen Anschlu nur hochqualitativeLeitungen verwendet werden. Sicherstellen, daLeitungen und Anschlsse in keiner Weisebeschdigt sind und da alle Anschlsse festeingesteckt sind.

8. NAD LINK IN, OUT (NAD-LINK EIN/AUS)ber die NAD-Link-Verbindung werden von der

Die Starkstrom-Klemmbolzenanschlsse knnenals Schraubanschlu fr Leitungen, die in Flach-oder Stiftsteckern oder fr Leitungen mit blankemDrahtende verwendet werden.

FLACHSTECKERDiese sollten unter die Schraubbuchse des

Anschlusses geschoben werden, wonach diese festangezogen wird. Sicherstellen, da das Anschluteilfest sitzt und keine Gefahr besteht, da blankesMetall von den Flachsteckern die Rckseite odereinen anderen Anschlu berhrt, da diesBeschdigung zur Folge haben kann.

BLANKE DRHTE UND STIFTSTECKER Blanke Drhte und Stiftstecker sollten in das Loch

im Schaft des Anschlusses eingesteckt werden. DiePlastikbuchsen des Lautsprecheranschlusses

loschrauben, bis das Loch im Schraubschaft sichtbarwird. Stift oder blankes

Drahtleitungsende in das Loch schieben und dasKabel durch Anziehen der Anschlubuchsen sichern.

Darauf achten, da keine Gefahr besteht, dablankes Metall von den Lautsprecherkabeln dieRckseite oder einen anderen Anschlu berhrt.Sicherstellen, da nur 1cm blankes Kabel oder Stiftund keine losen Einzeldrhte desLautsprecherdrahts vorhanden sind.

10. SOFT CLIPPING (Impulsbegrenzung)Wird ein Verstrker ber seine spezifizierte

Leistungsausgabe hinweg betrieben, dann ist beisehr lauten Tnen ein harter, verzerrter Ton hrbar.Dieser entsteht dadurch, da der Verstrker dieTonspitzen, die er seinem Design entsprechend nichtreproduzieren kann, abschneidet, was auch alsHard Clipping bezeichnet wird. Der Stromkreis zurImpulsbegrenzung des NAD-Gerts beschrnkt dieAusgabe des Systems, um hrbare Verzerrung aufein Minimum zu reduzieren, wenn der Verstrkerberbeansprucht wird.

Wenn Sie beim Anhren nur wenig Leistungerfordern, dann kann der Clipping-SchalterAusgeschaltet bleiben. Wenn Sie das Gert jedochmit groer Leistung einsetzen, wodurch die Leistungdes Verstrker hoch beansprucht wird, dann sollteSoft Clipping eingeschaltet werden.

Die Soft-Clipping-Leuchte auf der Vorderanzeigeleuchtet, wenn sich der Verstrker im Soft-Clipping-Modus befindet.

11. BRCKENSCHALTUNGDas NAD 317-Gert kann als Teil eines

Stereosystems mit hherer Leistung oder einesHeimkinosystems eingesetzt werden, indem manzustzliche Stromverstrker anschliet. Wird derStromverstrkerabschnitt des NAD 317 zum Betriebeines einzelnen Lautsprechers verwendet, dann soll-ten Sie die Brckenschaltung zum Betrieb des linkenund rechten Verstrkers als eine Einkanal-,Hochleistungseinheit verwenden. Stellen Sie dieBrckenschaltung in die Position Bridge undschlieen Sie den Lautsprecher an die Anschlssemit der Kennzeichnung L+ und R+ an, wobeisichergestellt wird, da L+ an den --Anschlu anIhrem Lautsprecher und R+ an den --Anschlu desLautsprechers angeschlossen werden. ImBrckenmodus wird der linke Kanal als Eingangbenutzt und der NAD 317 liefert ca. 240W in einen 8Ohm Lautsprecher. In diesem Modus reagiert derVerstrkerabschnitt als ob dieLautsprecherimpedanz halbiert wurde. Daher werdenLautsprecher mit sehr niedriger Impedanz (unter 4Ohm) nicht empfohlen, da sie, wenn sie bei groerLeistung genutzt werden, mglicherweise dieThermalausschaltung des Verstrkers auslsen.

Die Brcken-Leuchte auf der Vorderanzeigeleuchtet, wenn sich der Verstrker im Brckenmodusbefindet.

Die Netzkabel der anderen Gerte in derTonanlage knnen direkt an die unschaltbarenNetzausgnge des AV 711 angeschlossen werden.Wird ein anderes Stereogert in den Wechselstrom-Ausgang UNSWITCHED eingesteckt, so wird esauch bei ausgeschaltetem AC711-Gert mit Stromversorgt.

BEDIENELEMENTE DER FRONTSEITEDIE FUNKTIONEN VON NETZSCHALTER(POWER), LAUTSPRECHERN UNDKOPFHRER1. POWER (Netzschalter)

Durch Drcken der POWER-Taste wird das Gerteingeschaltet und nach einigen Sekunden leuchtetdie Anzeigeleuchte grn. Durch nochmaligesDrcken der POWER-Taste wird das Gert aus-geschaltet.

Wenn das NAD 317-Gert eingeschaltet wird,dann wird es durch Drcken der Standby-Taste(Bereitschaft) auf der Fernbedienung aufBereitschaftsmodus gestellt und die Anzeigeleuchteleuchtet bernsteinfarbe. Die bernsteinfarbeneBereitschaftsanzeige zeigt an, da der NAD 317 mitStrom versorgt wird, da sich das System jedochgegenwrtig im Bereitschaftsmodus befindet.

VORSICHT: In Bereitschaftsstellung wird das NAD317-Gert immer noch mit Strom versorgt. Wird dasGert lngere Zeit nicht benutzt, dann sollte es mitHilfe der Power-Taste an der Frontseite ausgeschal-tet werden.

2. KOPFHRER-BUCHSEEine 1/4 Stereobuchse ist fr das Anhren mit

Kopfhrer vorgesehen und diese funktioniert mitherkmmlichen Kopfhrern jeglicher Impedanz. EinEinschieben des Kopfhrersteckers in diese Buchseverursacht das Ausschalten der Lautsprecher.Lautstrke- und Ton- sowie Balance-Regler knnenfr das Anhren mit Kopfhrer benutzt werden. BeiVerwendung von Kopfhrern mit anderenAnschluarten ist gegebenenfalls eineZwischenstecker zu verwenden, wie z.B. ein 3.5mmStecker fr sogenannte Personal Stereos.

Warnung: Sicherstellen, da die Lautstrke aufMinimum gestellt ist (ganz gegen denUhrzeigersinn), bevor die Kopfhrer angeschlossenwerden. bermige Lautstrke kann zuGehrschden fhren.

KLANGFARBENFUNKTIONEN3. TIEFTON- UND HHENSTELLER

(BASS & TREBLE)Das NAD 317-Gert ist mit BASS- und TREBLE-

Klangfarbenreglern ausgestattet, um dasGesamtklangbild der Anlage einzustellen.

In der 12-Uhr-Stellung ist dieses flach ohneVerstrkung oder Schnitt und eine Einrastung zeigtdiese Position an. Zur Erhhung der tiefen oderhellen Klangtne den Regler im Uhrzeigersinndrehen. Zur Minderung der tiefen und hellen Tneden Regler gegen den Uhrzeigersinn drehen. DieKlangfarbenkontrollen haben aufTonbandaufnahmen, die unter Verwendung derTonbandausgnge gemacht werden, keineAuswirkung, wirken sich jedoch auf das Signal, daszum Pre-Amp-Ausgang (Pre Out) fhrt, aus.

4. TONREGLERSPERRE (TONE DEFEAT)Der Schalter TONE DEFEAT umgeht den

Klangfarbenregelung des NAD 317. Wird dieKlangfarbenkontrolle normalerweise nicht benutztund in der 12-Uhr-Stellung gelassen, den ist es rat-sam, wenn man mit diesem Schalter dieKlangfarbenkontrolle vllig ausschaltet. In derPosit ion Out sind die Stromkreise fr dieKlangfarbenregelung aktiv, wenn man den SchalterTONE DEFEAT eindrckt, dann wird dieKlangfarbenregelung umgangen.

INPUT-WAHLSCHALTER5. INPUT-WAHLSCHALTER

Diese Tasten whlen den aktiven Eingang zumNAD 317 und das Signal, das zu den Lautsprechern,den Tonbandausgngen und den PRE-OUT-Buchsen gesandt wird.

Leuchtdioden in jeder Taste zeigen an, welcherEingang gegenwrtig gewhlt ist.

TUNER: Whlt den Tuner (oder eine andereHochpegeltonquelle), der an die Tuner-Buchseangeschlossen ist, als aktive Eingabe.

AUX: Whlt ein Tonpegelsignal, das an AUXangeschlossen ist, als aktiven Eingang.

TONBANDFUNKTIONEN (TAPE)6. TONBAND 1 (TAPE 1)

Whlt den Ausgang eines Tonbandgerts zurBandwiedergabe oder Aufnahmeberwachung,wenn dies ber die Buchsen von Tape 1 erfolgt. Dietaste Tape 1 einmal zur Wahl drcken und nochmalsdrcken, um zur normalen Eingangsauswahl zurck-zukehren.

Bei Tape 1 handelt es sich um eineBandmonitorfunktion, welche die gegenwrtigeEingangswahl nicht berstimmt. Ist zum Beispiel derCD-Player aktiv, wenn TAPE 1 gewhlt wird, dannwird das CD-Signal weiterhin gewhlt und an TAPE1 und TAPE 2 OUTPUT gesandt, whrend der Tondes Ausgangs von Tape 1 auf den Lautsprechern zuhren ist.

Um beim Tonband-Monitor-Modus anzuzeigen,welcher Eingang aktiv ist, bleibt die Anzeigelampeeingeschaltet.

TONBAND 2 (TAPE 2)Whlt Tape 2 als aktiven Eingang.

ERSTELLEN EINER AUFNAHMEBei der Wahl einer jeglichen Quelle wird deren

Signal direkt an ein Tonbandgert geleitet, dazwecks Aufnahme an die Ausgnge TAPE 1 oderTAPE 2 angeschlossen ist.KOPIEREN VON BAND ZU BAND

Sie knnen von einem Tonbandgert auf einanderes kopieren, wenn beide an Ihren NAD 317angeschlossen sind. Legen Sie das Quellenband indas an Tape 2 angeschlossene Tonbandgert unddas leere Band in das an Tape 1 angeschlossene.Durch Wahl des TAPE 2 Eingangs knnen sie nunvon Band 2 auf Band 1 kopieren und das vomOriginalband kommende Signal berwachen

Sie knnen auch Tape 1 als Quelle verwenden undzu Tape 2 kopieren, hierzu mu jedoch fr die Dauerder Aufnahme der berwachungseingang von Tape 1gewhlt werden.

VORSICHT: BEI DER WAHL VON TAPE 2SOLLTE NUR EINE AUFNAHMEGERT AUF AUF-NAHME GESCHALTET SEIN. BALANCE UND VOLUMEN7. BALANCE

Mit dem BALANCE-Regler wird die relativeLautstrke des linken und des rechten Lautsprecherseingestellt. Die 12-Uhr-Stellung liefert beiden Kanlengleiche Lautstrke. Diese Position wird durch eineEinrastung angezeigt.

Ein Drehen des Reglers im Uhrzeigersinn ver-schiebt die Balance nach rechts. Ein Drehen desReglers gegen den Uhrzeigersinn verschiebt dieBalance nach links. Der BALANCE-Regler hat aufTonbandaufnahmen, die mit Hilfe derTonbandausgnge gemacht werden, keinen Einflu,beeinflut jedoch das Signal, das zum Ausgang Pre-Out des Vorverstrkers geleitet wird.

8. VOLUME (Lautstrke)Der VOLUME-Regler regelt die Gesamtlautstrke

der Signale, die den Lautsprechern zugefhrt wer-den. Er hat Motorenantrieb und kann von derFernbedienung kontrolliert werden. Der VOLUME-Regler hat kein Auswirkung auf Aufnahmen, die mitHilfe der Tonbandausgnge gemacht werden, keinenEinflu,beeinflut jedoch das Signal, das zumAusgang Pre-Out des Vorverstrkers geleitet wird.

ANZEIGEN UND SENSOR FR DIE FERNBE-DIENUNG (REMOTE SENSOR)9. STROM

Die Stromanzeige leuchtet grn, wenn derVerstrker eingeschaltet und rot, wenn er aufBereitschaft geschaltet ist.

10. SOFTCLIPPING SOFT CLIPPING zeigt, da sich der NAD 317 im

Modus Soft-Clipping befindet.

11. BRIDGEZeigt, da sich der NAD 317 im Brckenmodus

befindet.

12. SENSORSensor fr den Empfang von Infrarot-Signalen von

Ihrer Fernbedienung. Eine Leuchtanzeige in derStrom-Ein-und-Aus-Taste leuchtet, wenn von derFernbedienung ein Signal empfangen wird.

HANDFERNBEDIENUNGDie Fernbedienung handhabt alle Tastenfunktionen

des NAD 317 und verfgt ber zustzliche Kontrollenzur Fernbedienung von NAD-Tunern, Kassetten- undCD-Gerten. Sie hat eine Reichweite von bis zu 5m.

Fr maximale Betriebsdauer empfehlen wirAlkalizellen. Zwei AA (R6) Batterien sollten in dasBatteriefach auf der Rckseite der Fernbedienungeingelegt werden. Beim Austausch der Batterienprfen, da sie gem der Abbildung auf dem Bodendes Batteriefachs korrekt eingelegt werden.

ANMERKUNG: Bei der mitgeliefertenFernbedienung handelt es sich um die NAD-Universal-Fernbedienung, die mit jedem NAD-Systemmit Fernbedienung benutzt werden kann. Es kannsein, da nicht alle vorhandenen Funktionen beiIhrem Gert zur Verfgung stehen.

NOTAS SOBRE LA INSTALACIONSu NAD 317 debe colocarse sobre una superficie

firme y nivelada. Evite colocar el equipo a la luz direc-ta del sol o cerca de fuentes de calor y humedad.

Deje ventilacin adecuada. No coloque el equiposobre una superficie blanda como una alfombra. Nocoloque el mismo en una posicin encerrada comouna estantera de libros o armarito que impida elpaso del aire a travs de las ranuras de ventilacin.

Desconecte el equipo antes de hacer cualquierconexin. Los conectores RCA de su NAD 317tienen cdigo de color para comodidad. Rojo y blancoson audio de Derecha e Izquierda respectivamente, yamarillo para NAD-Link (conexin NAD).

El NAD 317 se entrega con conductores RCA paraconexiones bsicas. Si se necesitan conductores adi-cionales, use conductores y conectores de alta cali-dad para rendimiento y fiabilidad ptimos. Asegureque los conductores y conectores no estn daadosen modo alguno y que los conectores estn firme-mente enchufados a fondo.

Para mejor rendimiento, use conductores dealtavoz de calidad con grosor de calibre 16 o ms. Siel equipo no se va a usar durante algn tiempo,desconecte el enchufe de la toma de CA.

Si entra agua en el NAD 317, quite la alimentacinelctrica al equipo y quite el enchufe de la toma deCA. Haga que inspeccione el equipo un tcnico califi-cado de servicio antes de intentar usarlo otra vez.

No quite la cubierta, no hay piezas capaces de ser-vicio por el usuario.

Use un pao seco y blando para limpiar el equipo.Si es necesario, empape ligeramente el pao conagua jabonosa. No use soluciones que contenganbenzol ni otros agentes voltiles.

CONECTORES DEL PANEL TRASERO

1. CD INPUT (ENTRADA PARA DISCOS CD)Entrada para un disco CD u otra fuente de seal de

nivel de lnea. Use un conductor doble RCA-a-RCApara conectar Audio Output (salidas de audio) deizquierda y derecha del tocadiscos de CD a la entra-da. El NAD 317 solamente acepta seales analgicasprocedentes de un tocadiscos de CD.

2. VIDEO INPUT (ENTRADA DE VIDEO)Entrada para seal de audio procedente de una

grabadora VCR estreo (o un receptor de TV de

Satlite/Cable) u otra fuente de audio de nivel delnea. Use conductores dobles RCA-a-RCA, conectecon Audio Out de derecha e izquierda del equipo alas entradas. Nota: Hay slo entradas de audio.

3. TUNER INPUT (ENTRADA DE SINTONIZADOR)Entrada para un Sintonizador u otra fuente de

seal de nivel de lnea. Use un conductor doble RCA-a-RCA para conectar a la entrada las Audio Outputsde derecha e izquierda del Sintonizador.

4. AUX INPUT (ENTRADA AUXILIAR)Entrada para seales de entrada de nivel de lnea

5. TAPE 1 IN, OUT (ENTRADA, SALIDA DECINTA 1)

Conexiones para grabacin y escucha analgicaspara grabadora de cinta de audio de cualquier tipo.Usando conductor doble RCA-a-RCA, conecte lasAudio Output de izquierda y derecha de la mquinade cinta a los conectores TAPE 1 IN (entrada de cinta1)para escuchar y vigilar cintas. Conecte la AudioInput (entrada de audio) de izquierda y derecha de lamquina de cintas a los conectores TAPE 1 OUT(salida de cinta 1) para grabar.

6. TAPE 2 IN, OUTConexiones para grabacin y escucha analgicas

para una segunda grabadora de cinta de audio decualquier tipo. Usando conductor doble RCA-a-RCA,conecte las Audio Output de izquierda y derecha dela mquina de cinta a los conectores TAPE 2 IN(entrada de cinta 2)para escuchar y vigilar cintas.Conecte la Audio Input (entrada de audio) deizquierda y derecha de la mquina de cintas a losconectores TAPE 2 OUT (salida de cinta 2) paragrabar.

7. PRE OUT, MAIN IN (SALIDA DE PREAMPLIFICADOR, ENTRADA PRINCIPAL)

Conexiones para preamplificador externo, amplifi-cador de potencia o procesador, tales como undescodificador de sonido de entorno. En uso normalse deben conectar estos equipos conjuntamenteusando las conexiones provistas. Para conectar suNAD 317 a una seccin de preamplificador o amplifi-cador externo primero quite las conexiones. Use unconductor doble RCA-a-RCA para conectar la AudioInput de izquierda y derecha del amplificador depotencia o procesador a los conectores Pre Out.

Conecte la audio Output de izquierda y derechadel Preamplificador o Procesador a los conectoresMain In.

NOTA: La seal de salida Pre-Out quedar afecta-da por el ajuste del control de volumen y tono delNAD 317.

8. NAD-LINK IN, OUT (ENTRADA, SALIDA DECONEXION NAD)

El conector NAD-Link se usa para transmitirrdenes desde el control remoto manual a y desdeotros equipos equipados con conectores NAD-Link.Esto permite el control central del sistema completo oda control del sistema desde ms de una habitacin.Para funcionar con otros equipos, conecte la NAD-Link OUT (salida de conexin NAD-Link) del NAD317 con la NAD-Link IN del otro equipo. Los conec-tores NAD-Link se pueden conectar en cadena mar-garita, IN con OUT de modo que todo el sistemapuede controlarse desde dispositivos de controlremoto de un solo equipo.

Una sola conexin NAD-Link desde un sistema dealta fidelidad situado en una segunda habitacin per-mite el control remoto de un sistema de HabitacionesMltiples.

9. SPEAKERS (ALTAVOCES)Terminales de altavoz para los altavoces con

impedancia de 4 ohmios o ms.Conecte el altavoz derecho a los terminales marca-

dos con R+ y R- asegurando que R+ se conecte alterminal + de su altavoz y que R- se conecte al ter-minal - del altavoz.

Conecte los terminales marcados con L+ y L- alaltavoz izquierdo de la misma manera. Use siemprecable de torones para trabajos pesados (calibre 16 ogrueso) para conectar los altavoces a su NAD 317.

Los terminales de borne de alta corriente puedenusarse como terminal de tornillo para cables que ter-minan en horquilla o conectores de pasador o paracables de extremo de cable desnudo.

CONECTORES DE HORQUILLA. Se deben colo-car bajo el casquillo del tornillo del terminal, queluego se aprieta totalmente. Asegure que el conectorest firmemente sujeto y que no hay peligro de que elmetal desnudo de los conectores de horquilla toqueel panel trasero ni otro conector, porque esto podracausar dao.

CONECTORES DE CABLE DESNUDO YPASADOR

Los conectores de cable desnudo y pasador debeninsertarse en el orificio del fuste del terminal.Desenrosque el casquillo de plstico del terminal delaltavoz hasta que el orificio del fuste de tornillo quedeal descubierto. Inserte el pasador o extremo de cabledesnudo en el orificio y sujete el cable apretando elcasquillo del terminal.

Evite cualquier dao de que el metal desnudo delos cables de altavoz toque la parte trasera u otroconector. Asegure que slo haya 1 cm de cabledesnudo o pasador y que no haya torones sueltos decable de altavoz.

10. SOFT CLIPPING (RECORTAMIENTO BLANDO)

Cuando se excita un amplificador ms all de susalida de potencia especificada, se puede or unsonido fuerte distorsionado en sonidos muy bajos.Esto lo causa el corte o recortamiento fuerte del

amplificador que acta en los picos de sonido que noest diseado para producir. El circuitoRecortamiento Suave NAD limita suavemente la sali-da del sistema para minimizar la distorsin audible sise sobreexcita el amplificador.

Si su escucha implica niveles moderados de poten-cia puede dejar desconectado el interruptorSoftclipping. Si es probable que usted escuche conaltos niveles, que podran forzar la capacidad depotencia del amplificador, entonces conecte SoftClipping.

El diodo LED Soft Clipping se enciende cuando elamplificador est en modo de Soft Clipping.

11. BRIDGE SWITCH (INTERRUPTOR DEPUENTE)

El NAD 317 puede usarse como parte de unestreo de potencia ms alta o sistema de teatrodomstico, conectando amplificadores de potenciaadicionales. Si la seccin de amplificador de potenciadel NAD 317 va a usarse para excitar un soloaltavoz, use entonces el interruptor Bridge para hacerfuncionar los amplificadores de potencia de izquierday derecha y un equipo de alta potencia de un solocanal. Ajuste el interruptor Bridge a la posicinBridge y conecte el altavoz a los terminales marca-dos con L+ y R+ asegurando que L+ se conectecon el terminal + de su altavoz y que R+ seconecte al terminal - del altavoz. En modo Bridged(puenteado) el canal izquierda se toma en la entraday el NAD 317 producir aproximadamente 240 W enun altavoz de 8 ohmios. En este modo, las seccionesde amplificador reaccionan como si la impedancia delaltavoz se hubiera reducido a la mitad. Por lo tantolos altavoces con impedancia muy baja (menos de 4ohmios no se recomiendan porque pueden causarcorte del terminal del amplificador si se utilizan conniveles altos).

Se enciende el diodo LED de Bridge del paneldelantero cuando el amplificador est en modoBridge.

12.. Cordn de la red de c.a.Una vez terminadas todas las conexiones al pre-

amplificador, enchfese el cordn de lnea a un zca-lo tomacorriente de alterna.

13. TOMAS DE CA (VERSIONES ESTA-DOUNIDENSES Y CANADIENSES SOLO)

Si se enchufa otro componente estreo en la tomade CA NO CONECTADA, se alimenta electricidadest su AV711 conecto o desconectado.

CONTROLES DEL PANEL DELANTEROFUNCIONES DE ALIMENTACION, ALTAVO-CES Y AURICULARES1. POWER

Si se pulsa el interruptor POWER se pone en On(conectado) el equipo y despus de una corta pausa,se enciende en verde el diodo LED del indicadorPower. Si se pulsa otra vez el interruptor POWER sepone el amplificador en Off (desconectado).

Cuando se conecta el NAD 317, si se pulsa el pul-sador Standby (reserva) del control manual remotose pone el NAD 317 en modo Standby y el indicadorPower se pone en mbar. El indicador Power enmbar seala que se suministra alimentacin al NAD317, pero que el sistema est actualmente en ModoStandby.

PRECAUCION: Cuando se est en Standbytodava se sigue suministrando alimentacin a suNAD 317. Usted debe desconectar el equipo usandoel interruptor Power del panel delantero cuando no seusa durante un largo perodo de tiempo.

2. HEADPHONE SOCKET (TOMA DE AURIC-ULARES)

Se suministra una toma jack estreo de 1/4 pul-gadas para escucha con auriculares y funciona conauriculares convencionales de cualquier impedancia.Si se inserta un jack de auriculares en esta toma sedesconectan automticamente los altavoces. Loscontroles de equilibrio de volumen y tono funcionanpara la escucha con auriculares. Use un adaptadoradecuado para conectar los auriculares con otrostipos de conectores, como los enchufes jack deestreo personal estreo de 3,5 mm.

Advertencia: Asegure que el control de volumen seponga con ajuste mnimo (totalmente a la derecha)antes de conectar los altavoces.

Si escucha a niveles altos pueden daarse susodos.

FUNCIONES DE TONO3. BASS & TREBLE (CONTROLES DEBAJOS Y AGUDOS)

El NAD 317 est equipado con controles de tonoBASS y TREBLE para ajustar el equilibrio tonal de susistema.

La posicin de las 12 horas es plana sin refuerzoni corte y un detente indica esta posicin. Gire el con-trol a la derecha para aumentar la cantidad de Bajoso Agudos. Gire el control a la izquierda para disminuirla cantidad de Bajos o Agudos. Los controles deTono no afectan a las grabaciones hechas usandolas salidas Tape pero afectan a la seal que va a lasalida del Preamplificador (Pre-Out).

4. TONE DEFEAT (DESVIO DE TONO)El interruptor TONE DEFEAT desva la seccin de

control de tono del NAD 317. Si se usan normal-mente los Controles de Tono y se dejan en la posi-cin de las 12 horas, es aconsejable desconectar laseccin de Control de Tono totalmente usando esteinterruptor. En la posicin Out, los circuitos deControl de Tono estn activos, si se pulsa el interrup-tor TONE DEFEAT se desva la seccin de Controlde Tono.

SELECTORES DE ENTRADA5. SELECTORES DE ENTRADA

Estos pulsadores seleccionan la entrada activapara el NAD 317 y la seal transmitida a los altavo-ces, las salidas de Tape y las tomas de PRE OUT.

Los diodos LED que hay en cada pulsador indicancul es la entrada actualmente seleccionada.

TUNER : Selecciona el sintonizador (u otra fuentede nivel de lnea) conectado a las tomas Tuner (sin-tonizador) como entrada activa.

AUX : Selecciona una fuente de nivel de lneaconectada a las tomas AUX, como entrada activa.

CD: Selecciona el CD (u otra fuente de nivel delnea) conectado a las tomas CD, como entrada acti-va.

VIDEO: Selecciona la VCR (o receptor de TVestreo/Satlite/Cable) conectado a la toma VCR,como entrada activa.

FUNCIONES DE CINTA6. TAPE 1 (CINTA 1)

Selecciona la salida procedente de una grabadorade cinta cuando se escuchan cintas o se vigila graba-ciones hechas a travs de las tomas Tape 1. Pulse elpulsador Tape 1 una vez para seleccionar y otra vezpara volver a la seleccin de entrada normal.

Tape 1 es una funcin de Monitor de Cintas que noanula la seleccin de entrada actual. Por ejemplo, siest activa la entrada CD cuando se seleccionaTAPE 1, la seal CD continua estando seleccionaday se transmite tanto a TAPE 1, y TAPE 2 OUTPUT,pero el sonido procedente de la Salida Tape 1 se oyeen los altavoces.

Para mostrar la entrada que est activa cuando seest en modo Tape Monitor, permanece encendida laluz del indicador.

TAPE 2Selecciona Tape 2 como entrada activa.

PARA HACER UNA GRABACIONCuando se selecciona cualquier fuente de sonido,

su seal se alimenta tambin directamente acualquier mquina de cinta conectada a TAPE 1 oTAPE 2 OUTPUTS (salidas de TAPE 1 o TAPE 2)para grabacin.

COPIADO DE CINTA A CINTAUsted puede copiar entre dos mquinas de cinta

conectadas a su NAD 317. Ponga la cinta fuente enla grabadora conectada a Tape 2 y la cinta no graba-da en la grabadora conectada a Tape 1.Seleccionando TAPE 2 Input (entrada de tape 2)usted puede ahora grabar desde la Tape 2 a la Tape1 y vigilar la seal que proviene de la cinta original.

Adems usted puede usar la Tape 1 como fuente ycopiarla en la Tape 2 pero la entrada de monitor deTape 1 debe seleccionarse durante toda lagrabacin.

PRECAUCION: CUANDO SE SELECCIONATAPE 2, SE DEBE AJUSTAR SOLO UNA MAQUINADE CINTA EN MODO DE GRABACION. SI SEAJUSTAN AMBAS EN MODO DE GRABACION,CON TAPE 2 SELECCIONADA, SE PRODUCE UNBUCLE DE RETROALIMENTACION QUE PUEDECAUSAR UN FUERTE SILBIDO O AULLIDO, QUEPOTENCIALMENTE DAA SU AMPLIFICADOR OALTAVOCES.

EQUILIBRIO Y VOLUMEN7. BALANCE (EQUILIBRIO)

El control BALANCE ajusta los niveles relativos delos altavoces izquierdo y derecho. La posicin de las12 horas provee nivel igual a los canales izquierdo yderecho. Un detente indica esta posicin.

Girando a la derecha el control el equilibrio semueve hacia la derecha. Girando el control a laizquierda el equilibrio se mueve a la izquierda. Elcontrol BALANCE no afecta a las grabacioneshechas usando las salidas Tape pero afecta a laseal que va a la salida del Preamplificador (Pre-Out).

8. VOLUME (VOLUMEN)El control VOLUME (volumen) ajusta la fuerza gen-

eral de las seales que se alimentan a los altavoces.Est accionado por motor y puede ajustarse desde elcontrol manual remoto. El control VOLUME no afectaa las grabaciones hechas usando las salidas Tape(cinta) pero afecta a la seal que va a la salida Pre-amp (pre Out) del preamplificador.

INDICADORES Y SENSOR REMOTO9. POWER

El indicador Power se muestra verde cuando elamplificador est conectado y se muestra rojo cuan-do est en reserva.

10. SOFT CLIPPINGIndica que el NAD 317 est en modo Soft Clipping

11. BRIDGE Indica que el NAD 317 est en modo puenteado.

12. SENSORSensor para recibir las seales infrarrojas proce-

dentes de su control manual remoto. Se enciende undiodo LED en el pulsador POWER ON/OFF cuandose recibe una seal procedente del control manualremoto.

CONTROL REMOTO MANUALEl Control Remoto manual maneja todas las fun-

ciones de tecla del NAD 317 y tiene controles adi-cionales para accionar mquinas de Sintonizadores,Cassette y CD NAD. Funciona a una distancia dehasta 5 m.

Recomendamos pilas alcalinas para mximaduracin operativa. Deben colocarse dos pilas AA(R6) en el compartimento de pilas situado en la partetrasera del control. Cuando cambie las pilas, com-pruebe que se coloquen en la posicin correcta, talcomo se indica en la base del compartimento depilas.

Nota: El control remoto manual que se entrega esel remoto universal NAD y puede usarse concualquier sistema NAD controlable remotamente. Notodas las funciones del mismo pueden estardisponibles en su equipo particular.

STANDBY (RESERVA) conmuta el NAD 317 entrelos modos de Conectado y Reserva. (Precaucin:desconecte el NAD 317 usando el interruptorPowerdel panel delantero cuando no se use durantelargos perodos de tiempo).

MUTE (SILENCIAMIENTO) Pulse el pulsadorMUTE para desconectar temporalmente el sonidoque va a los altavoces y auriculares. El modo Mutese indica por el diodo LED de control de volumen quese pone en intermitente. Pulse otra vez MUTE pararestablecer el sonido.
