NACSEA RELIEF on Natural Disaster

Thailand Flood Relief Operation NACSEARelief supported the initiative of Hua Hin Expat congregation in Thailand by extending its helping hand to brothers and sisters in Thailand affected by the flood

Japan Tsunami

On March 11, 2011 tsunamis triggered by an undersea megathrust earthquake devastated large coastal areas on the Pacific side of Honshu Island. Up to January 6, 2012 the police reported 15,844 deaths; 3,381 people are still missing. More than 125,000 buildings have been damaged or destroyed. After the graveness of the devastation had become obvious, Brother Victor Chan of New York initiated and coordinated a donation by Brothers and Sisters of Chinese ethnicity. Their generosity yielded a sum of US $ 2,700 (¥ 203,336). Together with donations of the Tama Congregation of NAC Japan, District Apostle Hebeisen had a cheque on ¥ 478,870.00 issued for the City of Natori in Miyagi Prefecture, south of Sendai where more than 1 % of the population have been reported dead or missing. The National Rector of Japan Sh. Wolfgang Ade together with retired Priest Nishizuka brought the check to the town hall on December 12, 2011. Although nine months had passed since the tsunamis, the devastation is still appalling. On January 9th, 2012 the church office received a letter from the mayor, the Honorable Isoo Sasaki, in which he informed that in this small township 911 people had died, 58 people were missing, and 1,588 hectars (3,924 acres) of arable land had been submerged. CAGAYAN Typhoon Washi Typhoon Washi made its landfall on the Northern part of Mindanao and brought 10 hours of torrential rains. This triggered disastrous flooding over Mindanao, a part of the country that rarely experiences typhoon. The result was catastrophic.

NACSEA Relief Task Force

Sendong(Washi) convened and decided on how to help effectively the victims. With the support from NAK Karitativ in Germany we sent initial funding for first aid and relief to our brothers and sisters. (Excerpt from NACSEA RELIEF NEWSLETTER 1) The affected area belongs to the pastoral responsibility of Ap. Leonilo Desoloc, and Bh. Leonardo Deneiga. We were able to bring immediate help of food and water to our brethren, and most especially comfort that they are not alone. It is heart-warming that the people from all walks of life conveyed their time, effort and donations for our

brothers and sisters in need in Cagayan, Surigao and Iligan. A District Evangelist volunteered helped with used clothes from his congregation in Tagum congregation; half way around the world from Eindhoven Netherlands to Iligan, we were able to help the family of Sr. Alona Maranga in Iligan who was affected by the typhoon; a box of clothes from Uster was sent via LBC free of charge; a sister from Surigao who was a typhoon victim herself volunteered to help her congregation and its surrounding, too; our Project Coordinator Mabel Bagtas, has seen firsthand the effect of Typhoon Washi in Surigao. NACSEA Relief was able to distribute relief goods to 250-families in 3-Barangays (Brgy. Navalco, San Juan and Zaragoza Island).

We were able to extend help thru our active partners ALPS (Aid Line Philippines Swiss) , NESTLE, HOLCIM, GAISANO MALL, STAMM LOGISTICS, Le Delice, SPRINGBOARD FOUNDATION, and other unnamed volunteers who made our efforts felt by those who needed it.

Springboard Foundation our active partner in relief operation.

Days after the terrible floods caused by Typhoon Sendong, the people are trying to rebuild their lives again. Children are especially traumatized by the loss of their homes, loved ones and friends. The life they have known has ceased to exist. (Excerpt from Springboard Newsletter dd. 4 Jan 2012)

Dumaguete Earthquake Relief Operation On 06 February 2012 around 11:49 AM, a strong earthquake has hit Tayasan (Negros Oriental) a magnitude 6.9 has been recorded. Negros province is home to many New Apostolic brothers and sisters. On February 7, the NAC Dumaguete Youth headed by Dc. Jerome Silorio and Sr. Flora Mae Catan went to Tayasan where Bishop Bacane lives, taking care of the Tayasan Church. The aftermath of the earthquake is clearly huge. Tayasan church was damaged and many of our members in the nearby congregations situated on the mountain side were greatly affected too. (Excerpt from Negros Earthquake Report)

115 New Apostolic families benefited of our delivery of relief goods, food and water and some 15 families’ non member of the church. Most of them were living on the mountainous part of Tayasan Negros. Most of our churches needs outmost help as damages expose our members in danger. Rebuilding and repair will be our next step for our damaged churches.

Message from the District Apostle: Dear friends of NACSEARelief, It is a great joy to see a people in need helping themselves. At NACSEARelief we do not believe in distributing money but taking “hands on” action, working on the spot where the need is obvious but often not advertised and in public awareness. The concept of help must be based on making a change, bringing an improvement yet we realise that more often than not it is just a momentary relief and no sustainable long term solutions are achieved; the famous “drop of water on a hot stone” Yes, we do not have the spectacular projects involving huge budgets, yet to be engaged, to be committed, to reach out within our means is a Christian duty bringing joy and happiness to all involved, not just the beneficiary but also the many hands who contribute to this noble work. A great THANK YOU to all who understand the way we work, the limits we have but the commitment and dedication we maintain. All those who support us with donations and especially also the many hours of volunteer work. We thank NAK-karitativ and many other institutions and businesses for their good will and support. “…I say to you, in as much as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me”

(Jesus Christ)

God bless you all Greetings of Love Yours truly Urs Hebeisen President NACSEARelief District Rector NACSEAsia
