Commitments
Initial Goal
D uring the NABVETS 2014
Convention in New York City, the
Centurion Fund was created out of a
generous donation of $12,000 to
NABVETS from Brigadier General
(Ret.) Robert Cocroft. General Cocroft’s
donation was immediately matched by a
commitment of $1,200 from ten
committed leaders of NABVETS.
What happened in New York is
emblematic of what must happen in any
organization that aims to make a
sustainable and significant impact on the
people and communities it serves - the
leadership must be united in its vision
and committed to the mission of the
organization.
Since 1969, the mission of NABVETS
has been to improve the quality of life
for Black Veteran and their families.
This is not an easy mission, as African
American communities, across the
United States, are struggling with severe
economic depression and the social ills
that accompany those conditions.
Yet, despite our obstacles, the
leadership of NABVETS made a bold
statement by creating the Centurion
Fund, and that Statement was: “We will
not give up!”
Brothers and Sisters of NABVETS, no
one said that this road would be easy;
but by sticking together - working
together - we can move farther down
this road of empowerment, further than
anyone could ever have imagined.
And, the Centurion Fund is simply a
vehicle that can an help get to where we
want to be.
Thank you for your commitment;
Thank you for your contribution; and
thank you for believing in NABVETS.

NATIONAL CHAPLAIN EXPANDING
SERVICE TO NABVETS REGIONS
National Chaplain Bishop Leon McClain,
an Ordained Minister, is working with
Regional Commanders to expand the
presence of the NABVETS Chaplain
Services to all nine regions. Each
Regional Commander is in the process of
selecting qualified individuals to be
Regional Chaplains.
NABVETS EXPANDING ITS CLAIMS
SERVICES
At the recent meeting of the National
Command Council, National Commander
Kornegay requested that the Command
Council work to ensure that NABVETS
has a presence in the 30 Veterans Centers
around the country. The sites will enable
NABVETS to assist more veterans with
their claims. NABVETS has provided VA
benefits and claims assistance to over
70,000 Veterans since 1973.
E veryday, NABVETS is working
to improve the performance and
production of its Chapters, because so
much is at stake.
From California to Massachusetts,
NABVETS Chapters are responding to
the needs of Black Veterans, their
family members and their communities
for services, support and, occasionally,
a prayer.
Some of the programs that NABVETS
supports nationally includes:
CLAIMS SERVICE: NABVETS is a
Veterans Service Organization (VSO) and
represents veterans in their pursuit of VA
benefits and claims.
CHAPLAINS CORNER: NABVETS
provides spiritual support to Veterans
and their family members in times of
need and loss.
THE MEDIA CENTER: NABVET
provides the Eclipse Magazine, the
Eclipse Online Radio and extensive web
and social media presence to keep
members engaged and informed.
VETERANS UNITED FOR
COMMUNITY SERVICE (VUCS):
VUCS is a volunteer-based program
whereby veterans can volunteer on a
NABVETS project in their community.
CHAPTER BASED PROGRAMS:
NABVETS Chapters are constantly
developing new programs to respond to
the needs in their communities and
engage veterans in the task of making an
impact in their community.
