Introduction:

The 21st century presents a new threat to the interaction between nature and man and vice versa. However, this continues relationship have long been acknowledged. In the past, humans interaction with nature, although often had a disruptive effect on nature cannot be equated to today. Human pressure on natural environments is greater than before in terms of magnitude and efficiency in disrupting nature and natural landscapes.

Discussions:

It is now widely an agreeable fact that the predicted effects of human induced climate change over the coming decades include extreme weather events, drought, flooding, sea level rise, retreating glaciers, habitat shifts, and the increased spread of life-threatening diseases.

These conditions have the potential to disrupt our way of life and to force changes in the way we keep ourselves safe and secure.

It is further arguable that civilization has exacerbated current levels of interaction with nature.

If any meaningful headway be made, it would be important to understand the specific characteristics of the human social system. The type of society strongly influences people’s attitude towards nature, their behaviour and therefore their impact on ecosystems. Important characteristics of human social systems are population size, social organization, values, technology, wealth, education, knowledge and many more. Especially values and knowledge strongly influence peoples “view of life” and consequently define the way people act. The choice of possible actions is then limited by the available technology.(Gräber, 2012)
