THE WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST

White River National Forest is the most visited national forest in the nation encompassing 2.3 million acres. With 11 ski resorts, eight Wilderness areas, 10 mountain peaks over 14,000 feet and 2,500 miles of trails, this forest is a great place to work and live. With more than 10 million visitors per year, the White River needs a solid staff of seasonal employees. We are offering summer positions working in botany, customer service, engineering equipment operations, fisheries, fire, forestry, range, recreation, trails, wilderness, and wildlife.

THE DUTY STATIONS

Fire Duty Stations: Eagle, Grand Junction, Rifle, and Silverthorne.

Non-fire Duty Stations: Aspen, Carbondale, Eagle, Meeker, Minturn, Rifle, and Silverthorne.

CUSTOMER SERVICE – APPLY DEC. 01-11 Strong customer service skills, ability to work with others, knowledge of outdoor recreation activities and local opportunities are a bonus. Works with a large group of volunteers and partners. With more than 10 million visitors per year, the White River is the most-visited recreation forest in the country. We rely on our Customer Service staff to help keep these visitors informed about the rules, regulations, and awesome opportunities our Forest has in store.

FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE – APPLY DEC. 01-11 Working across 5 different mountain districts, technicians participate in electrofishing surveys, genetic tissue sampling, eDNA sampling, tagging of non-native fish, monitoring of remote antenna array, hydrological flow modeling, and organizing logistics for long, arduous days in the field with partners and crews. Wildlife technicians help with field surveys during project planning and implementation as well as species monitoring. This includes terrestrial species surveys and terrestrial habitat improvement projects.

RECREATION – APPLY DEC. 01-11 Help keep your favorite places wild. Recreation positions will vary depending on location. Duties involve cleaning and maintaining developed recreation sites including campgrounds, trailheads and toilets; constructing, repairing, and rehabilitating developed recreation sites, facilities, and trails; contacting visitors to provide information about recreation opportunities and regulations; collecting and processing fees at designated fee sites; serving as Forest Protection Officer; maintaining signs and gates, and collecting user data using tablets.
