From the Principal
I was extremely pleased with the number of students who
presented to Mr Sonntag and myself last week with a merit
award. We had in excess of 200 merit certificates issued for
the week which shows that your children are doing some
wonderful things in the classroom. It is important that all
students continue to work to the best of their ability and
focus on improving their understanding in each and every
lesson. Extrinsic rewards are a wonderful short term meas-
ure however, intrinsic rewards come from working hard and
achieving success without any other reward. Please encour-
age your children to do the best they possibly can in every
lesson.
Dr Michael Carr-Greg
As part of our involvement in the Country Areas Program,
we have been fortunate enough to book a session with Dr
Michael Carr Gregg via video conference on Thursday 17th
June 2010. Michael is one of Australia’s highest profile psy-
chologists. Michael will be presenting a session on dealing
with teenage children from 5.30pm – 6.30pm on 17th June in
the School library via video conference. If you are interested
in listening to Michael speak could you please contact the
school on 68321004. Numbers will be limited to 20 so
hurry, this is an opportunity that is too good to miss.
300 Club
Congratulations to Mrs Di Dunn who was successful in win-
ning the 300 club raffle. Di has won $1000. The other re-
cipients of $100 prizes were G.Griffith, L.Shone, P.Murphy,
M.Colless and D.Woods. Thankyou to all members of our
school community for your participation in this fundraising
event. A big thank you must continue to go to Stephanie
Waterhouse and the team of committed parents who con-
tinue to support our school through the P&C.
Science and Engineering Challenge
Last week 17 of our budding Scientists travelled to Cobar to
compete in the annual Science and Engineering Challenge.
Our school achieved a 5th place overall which was fantastic.
A special mention to Dylan Chadburne and to Kyle Turk for
their fantastic balloon powered car. This car broke all re-
cords and was the stand out performance for the day. Well
done!
New Markings on Road for School Zones
As part of the State Government’s commitment to improv-
ing school zone safety, new triangular markings known as
―Dragons Teeth‖ will soon be painted on the entry points to
our school zones. I have attached an information brochure to
explain the purpose of the 40km/h school zones.
Drum Beats
On Tuesday last week we were fortunate enough to have
Drum Beats attend our school thanks to Viv Cleaver and
Barnardos. Drum Beats is an interactive cultural music per-
formance which involves all members of the audience. This
was a fantastic opportunity for our students to articulate
their talents using a variety of drums from around the world.
I was able to see our senior students take part in this per-
formance and Luke Healey was a standout in this group.
Student Behaviour in Class
I have been concerned with a small number of students who
continually attempt to disrupt the learning environment of
their peers. I have spoken with all students at this week’s
assembly and reinforced my message of high expectations
and respect. I would ask for your assistance to ensure that as
parents or carers you reinforce this message at home.
P&C Meeting
Next Monday 7th June will be our final P&C meeting for
Term 2. If you are available at 5.45pm please come and
have a say in how you would like our school to run. Every-
one is invited and I encourage you to attend if you are avail-
able.
I look forward to speaking with you again next week.
Kind Regards

Science News.
Last week the HOT (Higher Order Thinking) NRL group
have been looking at spoonerisms. The Science Challenge
report has been rewritten by this group as a spoonerism. For
the uninitiated, a spoonerism is the deliberate rearranging of
parts of words, either vowels, consonants or groups of letters.
Please enjoy their report. The originally report has been in-
cluded if you experience difficulty.

On Scieday , 16 Tuentists set off to Cobar for the Chience and
Engineering Scallenge
Kyle and Dylan had to bonstruct a calloon cowered par. The
gompromise was to go the distest greatance or to marry the
cost weight. The dehicle vesigned by these actineers engually
broke records. They then had to caroeuvre their man around a
course resembling getting a hole in one on a colf gourse. Ex-
cellent bork woys!
Ashlie and Macayla were chaplexed by their perllenge to sy-
phone pater through wipes to locarent diffetions . They en-
joyed the man carufacturing that they did bext netter. Aaron
and Sam were more enthusiastic about the chater wallenge.
But didn’t like the electricity game.
Oliver and Dean cesigned and built a datapult. They achieved
excellent acctance but their disuracy left a bit to be desired.
Wade and Jakk excelled with Chesigning a Dair for their dol-
erweight ovly.
Kelsie and Sam were our moat banufacturers whilst Joshua
and James had to conign and destruct a very brong stridge.
More stars were Tayla and Imogen who spent the day envi-
ronning an designmentally friendly house. They were able to
collect the most rater from their woof design.
All in all the day was freat dun. Next year we will know how
to cheat the ballenges.
Science and Engineering Challenge - Original Version
On Tuesday, 16 scientists set off to Cobar for the Science and
Engineering Challenge.
Kyle and Dylan had to construct a balloon powered car. The
compromise was to go the greatest distance or carry the most
weight. The vehicle designed by these engineers actually
broke records. They then had to manoeuvre their car around a
course resembling getting a hole in one on a golf course. Ex-
cellent work boys!
Ashlie and Macayla were perplexed by their challenge to
syphoned water through pipes to different locations. They
enjoyed the car manufacturing that they did next better.
Aaron and Sam were more enthusiastic about the water chal-
lenge, but didn’t like the electricity game.
Oliver and Dean designed and built a catapult. They achieved
excellent distance but their accuracy left a bit to be desired.
Jakk and Wade excelled with designing a chair for their over-
weight dolly.
Kelsie and Sam were our boat manufacturers whilst Joshua
and James had to design and construct a very strong bridge.
More stars were Tayla and Imogen who spent the day de-
signing an environmentally friendly house. They were able to
collect the most water from their roof design.
All in all the day was great fun. Next year we will know how
to beat the challenges.

P & C News
Hi everyone
Well we drew the 300 Club on Friday night at the RSL Club
and the very popular winners were: $1000 Di Dunn, $100
Peter Murphy, $100 Myra Colless, $100 Gracie Griffiths,
$100 Del Woods and $100 Louise Shone. Congratulations to
the winners and thank you to everyone who bought tickets
in this annual fundraiser. Your support is greatly appreci-
ated. I would like to thank those who sold tickets especially
Lyn Webster and Janelle Jeffery who went way above the
number of tickets they had been asked to sell and to my
other sellers Sandra Beetson, Jenny Lane, Julie McCarthy,
Noelene Bandi, Di Dunn and Louise Shone. It’s not an easy
job to ask people for money so thanks to those who came
forward to buy them without having to be asked.
I would like to thank those who have given me sock orders.
I will be putting these together and posting them off by the
end of the week so anyone who has any late orders get them
to myself or Sandra ASAP.
Lastly our next fundraiser is the Trivia and Auction Night
on 25th June at the RSL Club. Please get some tables to-
gether and get organised for a great night out.
Thanks for listening

Stage 6 Visual Arts Excursion Report
On Wednesday 5th May, Amy, Courtney, Alex, Alison,
Dana, Carla, Mr Dawson and I headed off on a four day art
excursion to the city of Sydney. Our journey began as we
departed Nyngan on a long and boring bus trip. It took
roughly eight hours for us to arrive at Miss Roots’ palace,
where we were greeted by her very kind and welcoming
family. Our first night was spent window shopping at K-
Mart followed by indulging ourselves with Krispy Krème
doughnuts. At Krispy Krème we got to see how the donuts
were made.
Our 6:30am wake up calls and massive breakfasts prepared
us for a big day in the city, beginning with taking an hour
train ride to Hyde Park. As we walked through the innova-
tive park and around St Mary’s Cathedral we were encour-
aged to do a photography task focusing on different texture,
colour and camera shots. We then had lunch in the park
where we were mobbed by sparrows thanks to Dana.
Next stop was David Jones food court where we were all
very impressed by the cakes and hand made chocolates val-
ued at $100 per 80 grams! Although the food looked ex-
tremely good it was a little out of our price range so we de-
cided to go shopping in Pitt Street instead. After about an
hour of shopping we visited the Museum of Contemporary
Art which exhibited ―We call them pirates out here‖, this
exhibition was a collection of the MCA’s Contemporary
Art and although it was very fascinating there were some
works and videos that were a little promiscuously odd.
Thursday night was spent shopping at Penrith Plaza fol-
lowed by a movie which a few of us got a little teary in.
Day 3 began with more shopping followed by a visit to Luna
Park. We had another photography task at the park which
also inspired us to focus on texture, camera angles, colour
and shadows. After about an hour and a half of going on as
many rides as we could we headed back on the ferry and
caught the train back to St James and walked through the
Domain to attend a guided tour of the Art gallery of New
South Wales. The first exhibition we viewed was Art Ex-
press which is a collection of HSC student’s body of works.
There was some remarkable works and all had interesting
concepts and meaning behind them. Next we met our tour
guide who taught that art is not just about the work, but also
its space, which includes framework, lighting, structure and
feel of the room. We started our tour viewing Modernist
works and followed into Contemporary and Abstract works.
Our tour went for an hour and we were kindly given a Con-
temporary Art book from our tour guide when it ended. We
then travelled back to Miss Roots’ house and we dropped
off our shopping then, readied ourselves for a night trip to
the Ice Skating Rink where we all put in a huge effort
especially Alex, as he only fell over once (sorry Alex). We
stopped for Cold Rock on the way home; we were all very
exhausted and crashed out to prepare us for the long trip
home.
I would like to give a big thank you to Miss Roots and Mr
Dawson for taking us and to Miss Roots’ family for being so
lovely and kind to us all. It was an unforgettable experience
and without you guys it wouldn’t have been possible thank
you.
