WHO’S WHO

Mary Stanford Austin (Andrina) is a freshman at NRCA. Her Squire Theatre credits include White Christmas, West Side Story, and The Secret Garden (“Ayah”). Mary Stanford is a small group leader and is a member of the NRCA Honors Ensemble and high school choir. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and has received the “Timothy Award” two times. Mary Stanford would like to thank her family for their love and support. II Corinthians 5:17, Joshua 1:9

Landon Betts (Leeward/Little Chef) is in 8th grade at NRCA. He has participated in the NRCA drama/dance elective since 6th grade. Landon also played JV football. This is Landon’s first theater production and hopes to do many more.

Matthew Bridges (Chef Louis) is a sophomore at NRCA. His Squire Theatre credits include West Side Story and The Secret Garden (“Ben”). Before joining the theater program, Matthew was a member of the NRCA marching band and high school band for 6 years. He is currently a member of the high school choir. Matthew is excited to perform this role and for everything else God has prepared for him.

Jacob Comer (Scuttle), a sophomore, has been involved in the theater program for 3 years. His Squire Theatre credits include Tarzan, White Christmas, West Side Story (“Snowboy”), and The Secret Garden (“Dickon”). Jacob currently takes vocal lessons at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory. He is also a member of the PoiemArtistry Theater Company. Jacob is currently a member of the NRCA high school choir and Honors Ensemble.

Kelsey Dial (Ariel), a senior, has attended NRCA since kindergarten. She has been involved in the Squire Theatre since 6th grade. Kelsey’s Squire Theatre credits include Annie, Titanic, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins, How Love Wins (“Mary Magdalene”), Tarzan (“Jane”), White Christmas (“Judy Haynes”), West Side Story (“Maria”/”Consuela”), and The Secret Garden (“Rose Lennox”). She has trained in dance for many years. Kelsey currently studies ballet, pointe, contemporary, tap, jazz, and voice at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory. She is a member of the NRCA Honors Dance Company and high school choir. Kelsey would like to say “Thank you!” to the Green’s, her family, Mrs. Fabio, and Jesus.

Naveah Edwards (Jetsam) is a freshman at NRCA. Her Squire Theatre credits include West Side Story. Last year, Navaeh participated in the NRCA drama/dance elective. Navaeh has been a competitive cheerleader for 4 years. She currently competes at Inspire Athletics. She and her team have won several national competitions including Spirit of Hope Nationals and Canam Nationals. She received 3rd place at Summit (a worldwide cheer competition at Walt Disney World).

John French (King Triton) is a sophomore at NRCA. His Squire Theatre credits include Tarzan. John is a member of the varsity tennis team and the JV soccer team. He is also a member of the NRCA high school choir and Honors Ensemble.

Gavin Galligan (Flounder) is in 6th grade at NRCA. This is his first year in the Squire Theatre. Gavin participated on the middle school cross country team. He is also a member of the 6th grade choir and has participated in the Math Olympics.

Ashlyn Hanks (Adella) is a junior at NRCA. The Little Mermaid is her first production at NRCA. Ashlyn is a member of the Honors Competitive Speech and Debate class and NC Youth and Government. She received 2nd place in the state for public speaking. Ashlyn has trained in piano for 9 years. She also rides horses and has placed Grand Champion many times. Ashlyn is so excited to be part of this show and is very thankful for her family who always supports her.

Kayla Jacobs (Ursula), a senior, has been part of the Squire Theatre since 6th grade. Her Squire Theatre credits include Annie, Titanic, Fiddler on the Roof, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (“Sister Marie”), Mary Poppins (“Ms. Correy”), How Love Wins (“Sarah”), Tarzan (“Kala”), White Christmas, and West Side Story (“Anita”). She is so blessed and excited to part of her 10th and final show. Kayla has also trained in dance since she was five years old. She regularly attends dance classes and is a member of NRCA’s Honors Dance Company. Kayla is also a member of the National Honor Society. In the fall, Kayla plans to attend Elon University and is so excited to see what God has in store! (Go Pheonix!) She would like to thank her parents, Willie and Patricia, and her little sister, Iya, for always supporting her and always being her “number 1 fans”. Most importantly, Kayla would like to thank her Abba Father for blessing her with these gifts and talents that glorify Him and for enabling her to always pursue her dreams.

Jaylin John (Jetsam) is a freshman and has been involved in the Squire Theatre for 2 years. His Squire Theatre credits include West Side Story (“Chino”) and The Secret Garden (“Fakir”). Jaylin participated in the mens’ class at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory last year. In 2017, he received the Squire Awards for “Most Valuable Middle School” and “Rookie of the Year”. In middle school, Jaylin participated in the science club and JV track team, where he was awarded “Best Sprinter”. Jaylin is currently a member of the NRCA high school choir and Honors Ensemble.

Reghan Mayo (Flotsam), a freshman, has attended NRCA since 5th grade. Reghan trains in dance at Artistry in Motion Performing Arts Center where she participates in the competitive senior company. She began participating in NRCA theater in 7th grade. Reghan’s Squire Theatre credits include Tarzan, West Side Story (“Anybody’s”), and The Secret Garden (“Ms. Medlock”). She is also a member of the NRCA high school choir and Honors Dance Company. Reghan would like to thank the Green’s for their guidance, her parents for supporting her through her insane schedule, and most importantly God, for giving her the gifts and passion she holds for performing. Psalm 149:3

Gabi Piercy (Allana), a senior at NRCA, has been involved in the theater department since 6th grade. Her Squire Theatre credits include Annie, How Love Wins, White Christmas (“Betty Haynes”), West Side Story (“Maria”/”Consuela”), and The Secret Garden (“Lily”). Gabi also participated in NRCA sports, playing basketball and running track and cross country in 6th - 10th grades. She is currently a member of the high school choir and Honors Ensemble, where she has been a student director for two years. In 2017, Gabi received the Squire Award for “Most Improved”. In the fall, Gabi plans to attend the University of Alabama to study chemical engineering. She would like to thank her family for all their love and support, and God for giving her the opportunity to use the gifts He has given her.

Anna Grace Shoaf (Atina) is a freshman at NRCA. Her Squire Theatre credits include West Side Story. Anna Grace is very involved at NRCA, participating in NC Youth and Government, National Junior Honor Society, cross country, and track. She has received superior ratings her performance at speech meets. She is also a member of the NRCA high school choir. Anna Grace would like to thank her family for their love and support and the Green’s for teaching her to always work to the best of her ability.

Julian Simoes (Pilot/Ensemble) is an alumni of NRCA, Class of 2017. His Squire Theatre credits include Mary Poppins, How Love Wins (“Abraham”), Tarzan (“Kerchak”), White Christmas, and West Side Story (“Bernardo”). Julian currently attends Wake Tech and plans to get his Associate of Arts degree. P.S. “It’s dope to be back.”

Holly Stewart (Aquata) is a junior at NRCA. She has been seen in several Squire Theatre productions including Mary Poppins (“Jane”), How Love Wins (“Female Child”), Tarzan, White Christmas, West Side Story (“Francisca”), and The Secret Garden (“Martha”). In 2017, Holly received the Squire Award for “Most Valuable Sophomore”. She also has studied voice with Lora Fabio for 8 years and trained in dance and theater at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory for 8 years. Holly is currently a member of the NRCA high school choir and Honors Ensemble. Holly would like to thank Ms. Fabio for always believing her and helping her.

Genna Stott (Arista), a senior, has been involved in theater at NRCA since 7th grade. Genna’s Squire Theatre credits include The Miracle Worker, Seussical, the Musical, Mary Poppins, How Love Wins (“Eirene”), Tarzan, White Christmas (“Rita”), West Side Story (“Rosalia”), and The Secret Garden. She has trained in dance for 14 years and trains at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory. Genna has been a member of the PoiemArtistry dance and theater companies for 4 years. Genna travels each year with Poiema to New York City to minister through dance with Project Dance NYC. She has also been a member of NRCA’s Honors Dance Company for 4 years. Genna is also a member of the NRCA high school choir. In 2017, she received the Squire Theatre “Jabez Award” for Christian leadership. Genna would like to thank Mr. Green and Chelsae for all the time they have invested in her and for all the lessons they have taught her on and off the stage.

Eric Tu (Sebastian) is a freshman at NRCA. This is his first year at the school and in the theater department. He played the role of “Mr. Shaw” in NRCA’s 2017 production of The Secret Garden. Eric is also a member of the National Junior Honor Society.

Noah Weitzel (Flounder), a freshman, is overwhelmed with joy to be given the opportunity to be part of The Little Mermaid. Noah is originally from Pittsburgh and this is his first year at NRCA. In Pittsburgh, Noah performed in Annie, Jr. (“Lt. Ward”), Peter Pan, Jr. (“John Darling”), and Lion King, Jr. (“Zazu”). He would like to thank his past directors, Mrs. Krushinski and Mrs. Daniello, who made him who he is today on stage and in life. He would also like to thank Mr. Green and Miss Chelsae, who have guided him to the best he can be on stage. Most importantly, Noah humbly thanks God for the blessings He gives each and every day and his parents for giving him the utmost love and support. Philippians 4:19-20

Harrison Williams (Prince Eric) is a sophomore at NRCA. His Squire Theatre credits include West Side Story and The Secret Garden (“Albert Lennox”). He currently takes vocal lessons at Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory. Harrison is a member of the National Honor Society. He is the Fine Arts editor for the NRCA yearbook. This is Harrison’s first lead role and he is very thankful to have had this opportunity.

Did you know?When Ursula and Triton’s father died, the

pair were given equal share of the sea plus two magical items: Triton received the trident while Ursula received the magic Nautilus shell. Though the two were meant to rule the seas

together, Ursula’s greed and use of dark magic

to usurp Triton led to her being banished.


WHO’S WHO

DirectorsMr. Tim Gardner (Master Carpenter) Tim has been a part of the NRCA Squire Theatre for a number of years working with students and parents to build the sets for the productions. His first show was Anne of Green Gables and he has managed the building process for all shows since. He did have small acting roles in Annie, and in Titanic, where he missed the boat every time. Tim is married to Mrs. Julie Gardner, who masterfully teaches children in NRCA’s kindergarten program. He has two adult sons, Madison and Philip, who both performed on the NRCA stage. His greatest accomplishment, which is not actually his at all, is being called out of darkness to be redeemed by the mercy and grace of his heavenly Father.

Chelsae Green (Assistant Director/Choreographer) is an NRCA alumnus of the Class of 2007. The Little Mermaid will be her 28th show on the NRCA stage. Chelsae graduated from Meredith College in 2011 with a BFA in Dance Studies. Since then, she has been certified with the American Ballet Theatre (NYC) in their National Training Curriculum (Pre-Primary through Pre-Professional). Chelsae is currently the director of the NRCA dance department. She is also the artistic director of Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory and PoiemArtistry Dance Company. Chelsae has enjoyed directing and choreographing for NRCA Squire Theatre productions such as Phantom of the Opera, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Mary Poppins, How Love Wins, Tarzan, White Christmas, and West Side Story (2017).

Tara McCleskey (Alumni Stage Manager) is a proud alumnus of NRCA (2002) and is thrilled to be back helping with her 13th show on the NRCA stage! Some of her favorites include The Sound of Music, Pink Panther, Titanic, Miracle Worker, Mary Poppins, and Tarzan. Her favorite job of all is being Wifey to Matt and Mama to future triple threat, Evie Hope. Love to my cast and crew!

Jason Pizzino (Technical Director) is in his 13th year at NRCA, and this will be his 24rd production as Technical Director. A product of Christian education himself, Jason joined NRCA after ten years in live television, video production and as a touring musician. His work has included Nashville Superspeedway The Shop at Home Network, Morning on Fox 17 with Charlie Chase, and many more. Jason, his wife Kelly and two children, Jude and Kelsey, enjoy NRCA and serving at Open Door Church in Raleigh.

Director for 17 years

Michael Green (Director), now completing his 17th year on staff as Director of Fine Arts at NRCA, has directed over 30 shows on the stage of the Squire Theatre. Mr. Green comes to NRCA having been in pastoral and performing arts ministry for over 20 years in Ohio and Raleigh. He is the founder and artistic director of Field of Dreams Performing Arts Conservatory of Raleigh, NC. Currently Mr. Green is writing and producing with PoiemArtistry Theatre Group. He believe that the stage is one the most powerful tools the Body of Christ has in its arsenal of evangelism and worship. He has committed his life to expansion of the Kingdom of God through the sight and sound of the theater. Along with the arts, Mr. Green is an addicted fan of college sports - especially his beloved Buckeyes from the The Ohio State University. Go Bucks!

Normally I would write something that we learned from the context of our show…something redemptive and life changing. Not so much this year. This show, while it is cute and fun, introduces a rebellious teenager who demands her own way….gets in trouble….endangers other’s lives….and feels badly afterwards…but, still gets her way. Sound familiar? The tag line should probably read….”The Little Mermaid, what we could prevent if we would see things from another perspective.” No, I’m not trying to be a killjoy, so I will talk about the process.

In a generation where hard work and dedication are hard to find, the NRCA Squire Theatre found it. This ethic is in the hearts of the actors and crews you watch today. Last fall, we came together to begin the journey into excellence by dedicating our hearts and purpose to Father and the showcasing of His grace. In spite of missed snow days, illnesses, busy schedules, learning to balance on Heelys, and creating aerial stunts (no pun intended) – I believe we pulled it off. This is the result of Kingdom multiplication. When one pulls the wagon….then two pull the wagon….then four, and so on, there is an exponential increase in the results.. This is a mul-tiplication not an addition. That’s the way God’s Kingdom really works. One can put a thousand to flight and two ten thousand. It’s simple Kingdom math. There is a great acceleration of power and influence when we join hands and hearts. We ac-complish what others say is impossible. The Body of Christ can and should be that powerful and influential. Let’s purpose to be a relevant people…affecting change in our world, linking arms. It’s possible!!!
