Page 4: N Giungas Presentation p

Mechanical assembly needed to induce the right deformation

2 or 4 O-Rings between metal and insulating

Page 5: N Giungas Presentation p

Deformation/compression required is reached while compressing O-Rings against the rigid INSULATING spacer

a surface load higher than internal pressure

RESULT

TIGHT SEAL

Page 6: N Giungas Presentation p

ONE OF THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS IN THE LONG TERM COULD BE

FLUID LEAKAGE

Page 7: N Giungas Presentation p

O-Ring-walls rubbing rubber overheating O-Rings wearing and tearing

Surface load decreases - due to O-Rings shape deformation- up to becoming less than the internal pressure LEAKAGE

cause

O-Rings tear off

The structure deforms material looses flexibility

Surface load “P1” becomes less than pressure “P”,

FLUID LEAKAGE

EXTRUSION

Page 9: N Giungas Presentation p

Gas saturates the O-Ring at a certain pressure. If pressure suddenly decreases, gas gets rapidly expelled. That previously trapped in nano cavities expands violently O-Rings causing swell-up and bubbles

Explosive decompression could generate blisters, or tears O-Ring shape is deformed

Surface load becomes less than pressure, causing FLUIDS LEAKAGE.

NUOVA GIUNGAS In the 70s, started to invest in R&D

to design new more efficient solutions. Time is ripe for the

U-shape sealing system

Page 17: N Giungas Presentation p

RGD Rapid gas decompression (Explosive Decompression)

17

Page 18: N Giungas Presentation p

Increasing the level of groove fill (≥ 90%)is one way to improve the resistance of a sealing elastomer

compound to RGD effects

Page 19: N Giungas Presentation p

In classical O-RING system, higher levels of fill may not be appropriate

for service ! O-ring must be fill max ≈2/3 of groove.

O-ring fill ≈2/3 of groove

DNV rules say …

Page 21: N Giungas Presentation p

O-RING SEALING SYSTEM PRIOR AND AFTER ASSEMBLY

DNV RULES REQUIRE AED/RGD CERTIFICATION FOR O-RINGS BECAUSE THE SYSTEM ARE SUBJECT TO RGD/ED EFFECT

Page 22: N Giungas Presentation p

SYSTEM ARE ENCLOSED IN A COMPLETELY CONFINED SPACE!

DNV RULES DO NOT REQUIRE AED/RGD CERTIFICATION BECAUSE THE SYSTEM ARE

NOT SUBJECTED TO RGD/ED EFFECT.

48” API 5L X100 SAIPEM – TAP PROJECT

Relatore
Note di presentazione
siamo unici ad aver fatto un giunto con tubo in API 5L X100 nel 2003 I 2 pipe sono stati fatti da 2 tubifici diversi ( Nippon steel e Mannesmann) The aim of the project is to develop Long Distance, High Capacity, High Pressure, High Grade technology solutions to achieve the following targets: distances of more than 3,000 km; gas transport volumes around 20-30 billion m3/year; pressures equal to or greater than 15 MPa Launched in 2003 in cooperation with Snamprogetti/Saipem, Snam Rete Gas and Enitecnologie and finished at the end of 2007,  The other pilot line has been realised at the Military Area of Perdasdefogu in Sardinia and comprises two tracts, with a diameter of 48 inches in high-resistance API 5L X100 steel. The test, which started in September 2005, involved the use of pressure levels floating between 140 and 150 bar which made it possible, over a testing period of 17 months, to simulate the behavior of an effective industrial infrastructure over an equivalent period of twenty years. At the end of the testing program full scale detonation tests started. In June 2007 a test for the propagation of ductile fracture was performed in order to verify both the toughness properties of API 5L X100 steel and the ability of crack arrestors (specially designed) to stop the fracture. Also hydraulic tests were performed to assess the ability of pipes with defects to resist the internal pressure. The project was completed at the end of 2007.

GORGON UPSTREAM PROJECT - AUSTRALIA

Relatore
Note di presentazione
The Gorgon gas project is a natural gas project in Western Australia, involving the development of the Greater Gorgon gas fields, subsea gas-gathering infrastructure, liquefied natural gas plant and also includes a domestic gas component. Dal 6” al 34” da 260 a 360.5 Barg Anno: 2011 Posizionato a 200 fino a 1,300 metri di profondità in acqua The proposed project has attracted criticism from conservation groups in relation to the potential impact upon Barrow Island's ecology. The island is a Class A nature reserve, and home numerous other animals not found on the Australian mainland. Other concerns are related to the adequacy of quarantine procedures on Barrow Island to protect against the introduction of non-endemic species,[ and risks associated with geological sequestration of CO2.It was reported in November 2011 that native animals on Barrow Island had been accidentally killed daily with a known total of 1550 since construction began

Note di presentazione
Blue stream project: Pipe burial depth within maritime part is up to 2150 m Gas pipeline length is 1213 km trans-Black Sea gas pipeline that carries natural gas from Russia into Turkey. The pipeline has been constructed by the Blue Stream Pipeline B.V., the Netherlands based joint venture of Russian Gazprom and Italian Eni. The pipeline uses pipes with different diameters: mainland section 1,400 millimetres (55 in), mountainous section 1,200 millimetres (47 in) and submarine section 610 millimetres (24 in). The gas pressure in submarine section is 25 MPa (250 atm). 15 pezzi del 24” PN300 2 pezzi del 48” PN10

In 1997, Texaco (now Chevron Corporation) and Lukoil signed a production sharing agreement with the original two companies and the Kazakhstan Government. This is a 40-year agreement to develop the field to allow the production to reach world markets. This is done under a partnership company known as Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) where BG Group and ENI are joint operators with a 29.25% stake each in the company

TECHINT PERU - CAMISEA PROJECT

Relatore
Note di presentazione
Camisea 2004   The Camisea Gas Project extracts and transports natural gas originating near the Urubamba River in central Peru, the San Martín Reservoir. there are two pipelines carrying natural gas from the Camisea gas fields. The 540-kilometre Camisea pipeline traverses through the steep Andes mountains, and terminates within the Paracas National Reservation at the Pisco terminal. The pipeline has capacity of 450 million cubic feet per day .4] The second 714-kilometre natural gas pipeline runs from Malvinas along the coast to Lima and Callao for distribution to residents and industries in the capital city
