III. Student Life

A. Dating policy for new students

During their first semester, students that are not in a dating relationship before enrolling at IHOPU are invited into a “time of consecration.” This time of consecration is where the students agree together as a class not to date or pursue anyone in a courtship for the entire first semester. This is to help create an atmosphere where students can spend their time focusing on the Lord through prayer and their studies without being distracted by the dynamics that relationships often bring. Students that are already in a relationship before enrolling are

4

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

encouraged to pray together as a couple and ask the Lord what they can offer to the Lord in their relationship that would enable them to participate in the time of consecration with the rest of their class at some level. This will look differently for each couple. Students that are dating or engaged are encouraged to inform their friendship group leader about their relationship to ask them for prayer and accountability.

B. Verification of student status

To obtain proof of your student status for a discount on your car insurance, fill out the Student Verification or Transcript Request form, available on the IHOPU Registrar page of the Student Hub and turn it into the IHOPU Registrar in the IHOPU Administration Office.

C. Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) is an organized group of enrolled students who are elected to represent our student body and who contribute to a well-rounded student experience by organizing activities and opportunities for personal development. Those elected serve on one of the following committees: communications, events and pastoral.

IV. Student Services Information

A. Student Services oversees orientation, graduation, and school events, providing for a well-rounded student experience.

B. Find out about upcoming events through emails, chapel bulletins, and the Student Hub. If you have any questions regarding events, please email [email protected].

C. Student Services offers information on part-time jobs and ministry opportunities. Assistance is also provided in placing you with a ministry, house of prayer, or church after your time at IHOPU. For more information, please email [email protected] or visit the Ministry Opportunities or Part-Time Jobs boards on the Student Hub.

D. If you are looking for housing or roommates, lists are available on the Student Housing page of the Student Hub under the Student Life tab. If you are interested in offering housing, you can submit a post on the Student Housing page of the Student Hub, or email [email protected].

E. IHOPU websites and technical support:

1. IHOPU Account

Each student receives an IHOPU account that provides access to the online payment site; NetClassroom, the site for grades and class schedules; and the IHOPU Library computers. Your IHOPU username and password are sent to you by email a few weeks before school begins. If you have not received your IHOPU account username and password, please email [email protected].

5

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

2. IHOPU Email Account - mail.ihopu.org

Each student receives an IHOPU email account. This email is the primary means of communication between students, instructors, and school administration. Your IHOPU email account username and password will be sent to the email address you listed on your application. Visit the Tech Support page under Resources on the Student Hub for assistance on how to set up your IHOPU email account.

3. IHOPU Student Hub - ihopkc.org/ihopustudenthub

The Student Hub is the online information hub for the student body, providing a wealth of resources and information for students. You can stay current with upcoming events and announcements; find links to NetClassroom, the online payment site, and the library; and find forms and information necessary for transferring to a different program, requesting a transcript, obtaining student verification for insurance purposes, and more.

4. NetClassroom - netclassroom.ihopu.org

NetClassroom displays your course schedule and grades. For NetClassroom to work properly, you may need to open it in Internet Explorer; other web browsers have not been as supportive. If you do not have Internet Explorer, you can use the computers in the IHOPU library.

5. Schoology - schoology.com

Every course at IHOPU utilizes Schoology, a learning management system for schools that allows users to create, manage, and share content and resources. We use Schoology to access course notes, quizzes and tests, group discussions, assignments, course grades, and more. Find login instructions and more about how IHOPU uses Schoology on the Student Hub under Academics.

6. Online payment site - https://onlinepay.ihopu.org/login.aspx

This is a secure website for online payment of tuition and fees. You can also use the site to keep track of your payments and view your balance. Visit the Finances page on the Student Hub to read about all the payment options available to you.

7. IHOPU Wi-Fi Access

You should connect to the “IHOPKC_Public” network. If you tried to connect to “IHOPKC_ Public” but are still having difficulty, there are a number of things you still may need to do:

(1) Open your web browser and type in a new web URL (for example, ihopkc.org). If you are asked for a username and password make sure you are connected to “IHOPKC_ Public.” (2) Turn off any firewall software you are using. (3) Open your web browser and type in a new web URL. If you see a message about the security certificate not being trusted, carefully read your options and pick the option to trust it anyway/continue anyway/that you understand the risk, etc.

6

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

If you have tried all of the above and it still doesn’t work, you will need to schedule an appointment with IT to diagnose the problem. Use a library computer or a friend’s computer to send an email to [email protected].

V. IHOPU Registrar Policies and Resources

Please refer to Section III “IHOPU Registrar & Academic Advising” in the IHOPU Student Policy Handbook for detailed academic information and policies.

You may contact the IHOPU Registrar’s Office by emailing [email protected].

VI. IHOPKC Community Relations: Being Neighborly

A. Contact information

Community hotline: (816) 763-0200 x.2720 Website: ihopkc.org/communityrelations Email: [email protected]

B. Purpose

1. Inform and educate International House of Prayer staff and IHOPU students and interns on

community standards, laws, and codes so that they may be good neighbors in their communities.

2. Serve as a resource for the local Kansas City/Grandview communities, who may have questions about the International House of Prayer community.

C. Housing requirements: Grandview

1. Up to, and no more than, three unrelated persons may live in a single family dwelling; or, a

family (people related by blood, marriage, or adoption) may live together with two additional unrelated persons.

2. If a complaint concerning housing comes to the city’s attention, a letter is sent to the homeowner, advising them of the complaint and asking them to comply. If the homeowner does not comply, stronger measures may be taken. A warrant can be obtained to search a home to investigate a possible violation.

D. Housing requirements: Kansas City

1. Five unrelated persons may live in a single family dwelling, or household. “Household”

means an individual; or two or more persons related by blood, marriage, or adoption; or a groupof no more than five persons, excluding servants, who need not be related by blood or marriage, living together and subsisting in common as a separate nonprofit housekeeping unit.

2. For specific guidelines on Kansas City housing issues, visit kcmo.gov. 7

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

E. Vehicle compliance: Grandview and Kansas City

1. All operating vehicles must be insured and all drivers must be covered. Most full-coverage insurance plans cover anyone who drives the vehicle, but check your coverage to be sure.

2. Out-of-state American students are not required to register their vehicle in Missouri or transfer their license unless they become a Missouri resident. (Americans who are not students who move to Missouri have 30 days to register their vehicle and transfer their license. More information about this may be found on the Student Hub.

3. International students can drive in Missouri using a foreign license for up to six months, after which they are legally required to obtain a Missouri Driver’s License. More information is also available on the Student Hub.

F. Parking

1. Pay attention to all signs about unauthorized parking at the Red Bridge Center, the CEC Blue Ridge Building, the Blue Ridge Annex, the FCF auditorium, and the IHOPU campus.

2. Even in the event of an urgent staff meeting, please do not park in any unauthorized areas. Please be aware that parking in unauthorized locations puts your vehicle at risk of being towed at your expense.

3. No parking is permitted in the following locations: a) Valley View Bank, located across from the Red Bridge Center, unless you are

conducting business there. b) In front of business or residence driveways. (Please note that this extends to

parking in front of your neighbor’s driveway.) c) Along Red Bridge Road, Askew Street, Grandview Road, and any other side

streets in a manner that could obstruct a driver’s view. This includes a driver’s view of any business located along Blue Ridge Road, Grandview Road, and at the IHOPU campus. It also applies to Grandview Assembly of God (next to FCF auditorium). Look for signs that say “No IHOPKC Parking.”

G. In the community

1. In Grandview and Kansas City, a permit, and in some cases, a license, is needed to operate a business out of your home. Some businesses are prohibited (e.g., photography studios and mechanic shops). When in doubt, check with a city official.

2. When dining out, it is customary for customers to leave a monetary tip. A 10–20 percent tip is recommended.

3. Do the “basics” as a member of your community. Take your trash out on the designated day for trash pick-up, not before; mow your lawn; shovel snow from any sidewalk bordering your property; park in the driveway, not in the yard.

4. If you are a renter, please keep the property owner aware of needed repairs or issues needing resolution on the property. If there is an unaddressed code/ordinance problem at a property you are renting, please contact city officials.

5. Bottom line: look after the place where you live. 6. Our actions do not just reflect on us. Our neighbors are watching us and forming opinions

about the International House of Prayer based on what they see us do. 8

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

7. Most people will never set foot in the prayer room, but they observe the way we live and work among them.

8. Etiquette at businesses, public institutions, and in the workplace: please be aware that your words and actions while shopping, conducting business, eating out, interacting with public officials, etc., in the community also reflect on the International House of Prayer and the Church as a whole. If you get a job in the local community, it is important to conduct yourself with excellence. This includes showing up to work on time, following through on commitments to employers, being straightforward and honest, and so on.

9. Consider Colossians 3:23–24: “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”

VII. International House of Prayer Security Personnel

A. The International House of Prayer Security office is located on the east side of the Red Bridge Center in the trailers.

B. Phone: (816) 285-9430. Please save this number in your cell phone as a precautionary

measure. Do not hesitate to call if you are uncomfortable about any situation you are in.

C. Security routinely patrols all properties belonging to the International House of Prayer, including IHOPU.

D. If your safety or the safety of someone else is in jeopardy, do not wait to contact your

friendship group leader. Call Security immediately. If you are already aware that the police or fire department or emergency medical technicians will need to be involved, call 911 first.

E. If your vehicle is broken into: 1. In the event that your car is broken into, please call Security and the police. This allows the

police to search for the criminal(s). You will also need to call your insurance provider, who may acknowledge some of the items lost.

2. We encourage you to press charges and follow up on this kind of injustice so as to not enable criminals to continue committing crime.

F. If you see something that just doesn’t look right or concerns you, please tell Security

personnel. We like to say, “see something, say something.”

G. Don’ts 1. Don’t offer rides to strangers; this may result in a bad situation. 2. Don’t accept rides from strangers, especially at night. 3. Don’t walk home alone; walk with friends or in a group. 4. Don’t give money to strangers who ask you for it. Giving money can make you both a target

and an enabler. 5. Don’t minister to people you don’t know by yourself. 6. Don’t park in sections of parking lots that are far from buildings or in dark areas.

9

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

7. Don’t approach any vehicles that park far away or in the dark. People often park in dark areas to sell drugs or for dangerous reasons. Call Security if you see anything that concerns you.

8. Don’t consider resistance against a purse/wallet threat, unless there is intent to harm, not just steal. Your laptop, iPod, iPad, wallet, purse, etc., are not worth endangering the safety or life of a human being, whether that’s you, someone else, or even your attacker. Betterto toss your belongings away from you to give yourself time to run in the other direction. If someone does attack you with intent to harm, and you need to fight back, do so without hesitation or remorse. If you need to strike, strike hard and without pity so that you will have enough time to run away.

H. Do’s 1. Do lock your vehicle doors. 2. Do ask someone to walk you to your vehicle if you do not feel safe. 3. Do call 911 if you think the police or fire department or emergency medical technicians need

to get involved. Then call Security as soon as possible afterward. 4. Do call Security if you see or are aware of something that is worrying or of concern. We can

help prevent incidents only if we are informed of what is happening. If you see something, tell someone who can help.

5. Do consider buying an electronic security whistle. They cost about $15 at Home Depot. Loud noise draws attention to you and unnerves those who could be intending harm. If you are ever in a situation where you need to make a loud noise, you may find yourself too frightened to be able to shout. Situations like this are what these devices are for.

6. Do shout, “Fire!” if you need to signal people for help. Studies have shown that shouting “Fire!” even when there is no fire is more effective than shouting “Help!” or “Rape!” It is sad to say that most people walk the other way when they hear the latter, because they are afraid for themselves.

7. Do remember that just because you met someone at the International House of Prayer does not make them a trustworthy person. Having a staff badge from the International House of Prayer or an IHOPU student badge unfortunately does not guarantee that someone is safe. Use wisdom and discernment.

8. Do remember to not leave your valuables on seats in the prayer room, at Forerunner Christian Fellowship, or in plain view in your car. They may well be taken.

9. Do call Security if you have a dead car battery or you have locked your keys in your vehicle and are on International House of Prayer property. (Please note: Security is not allowed to come to your house, to the movie theater, etc., to help you.)

10. Do exercise your common sense and be aware of your surroundings at all times. Most of the incidents that have happened at the International House of Prayer could have been avoided if the people involved had thought more about what was happening.

I. Self-defense tips 1. Carry something you can use as a striking tool: keys between your fingers, a rolled-up

magazine, a purse, etc.,—something you can easily access. 2. If you are in a vehicle, you have great defense tools: drive and reverse.

VIII. Introduction to the Prayer Room

10

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

Central to the work of the missions base, and your experience as an IHOPU student, is our 24/7 prayer room, inspired by David’s tabernacle (1 Chr. 23:5; 25:7), where 288 singers and 4,000 musicians were employed as their full-time occupation to minister to the Lord and serve the community. We divide the 24/7 schedule into twelve worship-based prayer meetings a day, each lasting two hours.

Scripture teaches that night-and-day prayer is deeply connected to the fullness of God’s power and purpose being released (Lk. 18:7–8; cf. Isa. 62:6–7). We are offering Jesus unceasing worship, while contending for justice and for the power of the Holy Spirit to be manifest and bring transformation in every sphere of society.

A. The International House of Prayer hosts thousands of visitors each month from all over

the world. It is our joy to serve people from different cultures and church backgrounds, each bringing a unique facet of the Lord’s beauty, while reaching for His ideal of “corporate, enjoyable prayer” (Isa. 56:7).

B. With this understanding, we face unique challenges concerning social etiquette. Our

calling asa 24/7 international ministry inevitably creates circumstances in which personal and corporate behaviors collide as differing cultures, ministerial backgrounds, and standards of hygiene converge in one small room.

C. For the good of others, we govern the prayer room under the principle of love. We are intentionally sensitive so that we can, in love, enjoy the prayer room as visitors and staff alike. Our Christian freedom is exercised with restraint so that the good of others may prevail. As you look over the etiquette and protocol guidelines, please view them with the understanding that we want everyone to enjoy the Lord in His house of prayer (Isa. 56:7).

D. Guidelines

1. We ask you to conduct all personal conversations in a side room or the foyer.  2. Personal vocal volume should be commensurate with, or not exceed, the platform

volume. If you pray on the microphone, please do not shout your prayer. 3. Please do not eat in the prayer room, and bring in only water in a closed container. 4. Please do not use your cell phone in the prayer room. If it is important that you receive

your calls, place your phone on vibrate, and take the call outside the prayer room. 5. Do not use any implements, props, or musical instruments in worship. 6. Please do not take your shoes off in the prayer room, or put your feet on the chairs,

including up on the back. 7. Please do not run in the prayer room.

E. Parents and children

11

12901 S. US Highway 71, Grandview, MO 64030 | (816) 763-0243 | ihopkc.org

1. Parents, please keep your children with you at all times on the missions base. Children should be supervised in the prayer room.

2. We suggest that families avoid sitting together in one row, because the children will likely want to play together.

F. Space

1. No lying down on the chairs or sleeping (“camping out”). 2. If you leave for an extended period of time (longer than thirty minutes), please take your

belongings with you (especially from the tables) so that others may use the space.

G. Serving in the prayer room

1. You can audition to be part of a worship team once you have completed a semester at IHOPU. Email [email protected] to sign up.

2. To volunteer as an usher, email [email protected] 3. To join a prophecy team, email [email protected] once you have completed a

semester at IHOPU. 4. To join one of the teams that minister in the Healing Rooms, email [email protected] once

you have completed a semester at IHOPU. IX. Local Restaurants and Grocery Stores near IHOPU (Distances are shown in relation to IHOPU.)
