For many, the summer months are well-deserved months of a less-hectic life. Summer is the season most families will take vacations. Life seems to enter a slower pace in the summer. While this slower pace and time of vacation is necessary for rebuilding our lives in many ways, not all aspects of life are served with “time off”. Our faith, for one, is strengthened by continual engagement and constant deepening. Now this does not mean that we cannot do different things throughout the year to strengthen our faith, not at all. What this means, however, is that we can’t neglect our faith by giving our faith “time off” – in other words, ignoring our faith is not helpful. Our faith is strengthened with three key acts: communal worship, mission, and regular (daily is best ) prayer/reading of scripture. Each of these three acts is strengthened by finding ways to “go deeper” -- to challenge ourselves to grow our participation in each of these. Here are some examples: if you’re looking for a different way of worship in the summer months try a different Sunday morning service than your usual service. Make new friends at the 10:30 service if you attend the 8:00, or join us at 8:00 for a different approach to worship. Or, come to the 10:00 a.m. service on Wednesdays. Mission: with a summer schedule with a little more flexibility, find an opportunity to lend a hand in the community. You’ll know better than I at the moment the opportunities in York. Seek out something new and see how it strengthens your faith. Regular (daily is best) prayer and reading of scripture. The foundation of our faith and the source of growing our faith is found in prayer and engaging the Holy Scriptures. With these upcoming beautiful summer evenings, you may wish to set aside a few minutes each day to read from one book of the Bible. Pick a book, and plan to have it read by the end of the summer. Looking for something that won’t take long … Philemon. Looking for something a bit more “epic” … Isaiah. Consider adding the short and beautiful Service of Compline to your summer nights. There are many ways to add some variety to your life of faith in the summer. Take some time this summer to do just that. Engage your faith; deepen your faith – after all, that’s just what our faith needs. Faithfully, June 2019

Ah, the glorious month of June. June is an exciting month for many reasons: school’s out; summer arrives (to note just two). Do you know (or want to learn) how to crochet or knit?

Are you curious about what it takes to make a prayer shawl?

New Prayer Shawl Ministry Informational Meeting Date: Sunday, May 26th

Time: 9:00 AM

Location: Parish Hall All are welcome, no matter what skill level!

St. Andrew’s ECW held a half day retreat in March focused on a variety of ways to pray. Another type of prayer is tactile prayer, where you touch/work with physical items while you engage in praying. The most familiar use of this prayer type is with prayer beads. However, prayer shawls and the making of them are also part of this tradition. Come to the meeting to hear more about it! We will officially kick off the new ministry in September with our permanent ministry name and meeting time, but to get the information set we are holding a couple of informational gatherings to see who is interested and to get people started with a small project for the summer. Details about additional informational meetings will be announced in the July Net X Work. For more information please contact Martha Ambrose – [email protected] or Alma Rooney – 717-817-0529 (text or call).

Unraveling Revelation A mid-week Bible Study

Revelation is one of the most misunderstood and misused books of the Bible. Throughout history, some of the greatest religious thinkers have ignored this book; whereas, less scrupulous thinkers have abused Revelation – using it as a tool to incite fear rather than proclaim the gospel. Because of this, the last book in the New Testament has been shelved by many and coopted by too many. We seek to change that: let’s reclaim Revelation. Beginning on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, and concluding Wednesday, June 26, 2019, we will explore the Book of Revelation: its history, composition, major themes, and, most importantly, what we learn about Jesus. You’re invited to bring your Bible and what note-taking items you desire. Here’s the basic information: What: An in-depth study of the Book of Revelation When: Wednesdays in May and June from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Where: The Great Hall, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church

For more information, contact the Church Office or speak with Fr. Grant.

Birthday Church Offering – June

St. Andrew’s Outreach Fund

Your gifts will be received Sunday, June 2

The purpose of the Birthday Church is to supplement or support various identified ministry needs in the diocese, our community and congregation.

St. Andrew’s Men’s Club continues to sponsor the All

Pro Dad’s Breakfast for Phineas Davis School. All Pro Dad’s will reconvene with the new school term in September. All Pro Dad’s Breakfast is a simple idea with a profound impact. This breakfast, served in the Great Hall once each month September through June, is held before school creating an opportunity for

children and their male role model to meet with others. During this time, they discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, create fun memories, and are equipped with resources to strengthen their relationship.

For more information, or if you are interested in helping with this outreach project, please contact Dan Rooney via email [email protected] or phone 817-0530.
