Just Announced!Mozart Piano Concerto Series

In early biographies, Mozart has been portrayed as unsophisticated in matters of business. Nothing could be further from the truth. During the years 1782 to 1785, some of the happiest of his life, the energetic composer conceived, wrote works for, promoted and implemented a series of piano concerto performances for his own benefit. Quite successful, these events launched young Wolfgang’s career. These concerts presented Mozart’s immense skill as a composer who had just perfected one of the great musical genres – the piano concerto. His facility with this musical form and his blazing virtuosity (he was the Jimi Hendrix of the recently-invented pianoforte) brought him to the forefront of Viennese musical society.

In this spirit, we will showcase four of the master’s great piano concertos at four “academies” (last week of April & second week of May). These will feature the talents of our fine musicians alongside two internationally renowned guest pianists: Janina Fialkowska and Jon Nakamatsu. This Schuster subscription series is family-priced into three simple tiers. As an added bonus, every subscriber receives a $2 discount for the Mozart movie, In Search of Mozart. Subscription seats are on sale on a first-come, first-serve basis. Single tickets go on sale February 15, 2006.

NCR Presents The Miracle of Mozart Festival

Announcing a Dayton area musical event of epic proportions! Too big for any one group, it takes many. Too big for any one location, it takes nine. Too big for one city, it takes the region.

To celebrate the mind and spirit of the greatest musician of all time, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra has assembled a remarkable lineup of concerts and events that show off Mozart’s nearly unbelievable musical talents. This far-reaching music festival includes both free and paid events performed in a variety of settings and by a wide variety of musical groups.

In addition to the sheer amount of music that Mozart created in his brief lifetime, he also achieved mastery over every genre. From the largest symphonies and operas to the most intimate solo compositions, Mozart turned his miraculous talents to every musical form!

With that in mind, we present concerts featuring a wide array of performances including symphonies, opera works, sacred works, piano concertos, string quartets, various ensemble groups, and solo recitals.

Collaborations with local and international partners have inspired events that will bring Mozart to life right in front of your eyes and ears.

Seventh Arts Productions in Britain has provided a new documentary film which will be presented at Neon Movies. Internationally known artists such as Emanuel Ax, Janina Fialkowska, and Jon Nakamatsu will reveal the magic of Mozart’s piano concertos. The Schuster Center Mozart concerts will feature pre-concert speakers and events. The Dayton Opera will host some surprise guests during the May gala concert. The Dayton Mandolin Orchestra will perform prior to four of the Schuster concerts. There is a new commission! Composer Robert Rodríguez will provide an Agnus Dei movementto complete Mozart’s unfinished Mass in C minor.

The NCR Miracle of Mozart Festival is made up of two parts. Throughout will be community concerts that are free to the public. The March calendar of six free concerts is called Amadeus Unbound, because it will take Wolfgang for a “free ride” around the wider Dayton community.

The April/May segment is called Amadeus Downtown, because all the activities occur in downtown Dayton.
