SPECIAL TO THE ATLANTIC NEWS PORTSMOUTH | A two-session young performers’ training academy entitled “Got Art?” will be presented this summer from July 24 through August 19 at the Players’ Ring The- ater, located on Marcy Street in Portsmouth. These two, two-week intensive courses about the world of theater will help the young performer discover every possibility. A three- tiered approach, taught by professionals in the fields of acting, dance, music and improvisa- tion will enhance not only each child’s talents but also their self esteem and confidence. Each session will allow the young per- former to explore their individual gifts as well as build a strong sense of teamwork. Accord- ing to staff member George Hosker, Jr., “This is not theater camp — this is the real deal!” Classes will be held Monday through Fri- day from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the Player’s Ring Theater. Session I will be from July 24 to August 4, with a culminating performance on Saturday, August 5; Session II runs from August 7-18, with a culminating performance on Saturday, August 19. The session fee, based on enrollment for one student, is $195 each, or $350 for both. There is a $10 discount for regis- trations paid in full by Thursday, June 15. One of the great aspects of the program is that the young performers will have the access to local theater professionals from a broad range of experiences. In addition to Hosker, instructors include Martha Lemire, Marian Marangelli, Todd Wellington, and Mary Oliv- er. A writer, director, producer, playwright and former executive director of the Prescott Park Arts Festival for more than 11 years, Hosker has produced and directed more than 100 productions regionally and nationally. He has also taught youth acting in Portsmouth, Hampton, North Hampton, and Exeter and has received the Key to the City of Portsmouth. Lemire is the current executive director of Ballet New England, and has taught dance locally for more than 20 years. Currently the choral and general music teacher at North Hampton School, Oliver has been teaching music for eight years and has been involved in the production of plays at the school for 10 years. In addition to working with students in grades K-8, she plays the organ for her church and teaches private piano lessons. Registrations for the “Got Art?” program are currently being accepted. PORTSMOUTH | Leoand Lisa Poisson have recent-ly opened what promises tobe one of the jewels of down-town Portsmouth.

Trillium Fine Jewelry, located on Market Street, unofficially opened its doorsat the end of April. The shopoffers a wide variety of jewel-ry including sterling silver, precious and semi-preciousstones, 14-karat white andyellow gold, sea glass andpearls. The store also offersservices such as jewelryrepair, watch repair and bat-tery replacement, as well asengraving.

Even though the shop justopened, Leo knows his jew-elry. He has been involved inthe family business for morethan 20 years. His father, LeoSr., is the owner of Quicksil-ver Fine Jewelry and Giftslocated in North Hampton.Leo said he had been lookingfor over a year for locationfor his shop when the spacebecame available.

“Portsmouth is a greatlocation,” he said.

The days of only receiv-ing jewelry as a gift are over, according to Leo. He saidmany women are now buy-ing their own jewelry toaccentuate their personalstyle.

“We’re focusing on cleanlines,” Leo said. “We’re try-ing to find colors and fash-ions at the right price. Whenyou come here you’re goingto find ‘one’ of something

Among those differentitems will be several lines ofjewelry offered nowhere elsein Portsmouth. Trillium willbe offering jewelry fromLaura Gibson, Judith Jack,Nikolai and Sarda. So ifyou’re looking for thatunique gift for a specialsomeone, even if that specialsomeone just happens to beyou, you need look no fur-ther than Trillium Fine Jewel-ry.

And Poisson offers a com-pelling reason to shop at hisstore, rather than a larger, chain operation.

“Like all the shops here inPortsmouth we offer greatservice,” said Leo. “There’salways somebody that canundercut your prices, but

what makes a difference isthe service. It’s the servicethat you give, and the factthat you stand behind whatyou sell, that is important.”

Although the shop’s offi-cial grand opening will notbe until some time in June,Leo said the store has alreadybeen well received.
