“What is the Relationship between
S a l v a t i o n a n d F o r g i v e n e s s ? "
When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we receive salvation and
forgiveness. But that’s not all. The Bible says we also receive
justification, redemption, reconciliation, atonement, propitiation, and
regeneration. Each of these theological terms expresses wonderful
truths about the blessing we receive when Jesus becomes our Savior.
Salvation and forgiveness, while related, are not exactly the same.
The term salvation comes from the Greek word sozo, which means
“to be delivered, rescued.” Salvation is deliverance from the penalty
of sin, that is, eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23; Matthew
25:46). Salvation is God’s rescuing us from our deserved fate.
Salvation also includes a more immediate deliverance from the power
of sin in this life. Sin has lost its dominion over the saved ones
(Romans 6:14). Faith in Jesus Christ rescues us from the empty and
meaningless life described in Ecclesiastes and provides us with a life
that is abundant and fruitful (John 10:10; Galatians 5:22–23).
Psalm 103:13 - As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him

“What is the Relationship between Salvation and Forgiveness? (continued from page 1)
The term forgiveness comes from the Greekword aphiemi, which means “to let go, to giveup, to keep no longer.” When Jesus forgives us,our sins, trespasses, iniquities, andtransgressions are erased, wiped off therecord. Forgiveness of sin is analogous tofinancial debt being erased. When Godforgives us of our sins, we are free. Our sinsare wiped out. God will never hold themagainst us (Psalm 103:12).
Salvation and forgiveness are closely related. There is no salvation without forgiveness.Salvation is God’s delivering us from theconsequences of sin. Forgiveness is God’serasing our sin debt. To use a financialillustration, forgiveness is God’s shredding thedocuments that list our debt, and salvation isGod’s letting us out of debtors’ prison. PraiseGod for the wonderful salvation andforgiveness He has provided. May our livesreflect gratitude for all He has done for us(Romans 12:1).

In the coming months I will be sharing with you excerpts from the book titled "Show
Me How to Share the Gospel”, by R. Larry Moyer. This book is one that is taught in our
Discipleship Training Ministry. You are encouraged to come out to discipleship training, it so important to your Christian
Growth. As Christians, we recognize that our central and primary Commission is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ
(Matthew 28:19-20). All of the activities of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (NHMBC) should ultimately point to
winning souls for Christ.
The author comments on an interview with a successful soul winning pastor who had been in the ministry for 50 years.
Success being defined as reaching sinners and with the power of the Lord, converting them to belief and acceptance in
Jesus Christ, God's only Son's death, burial and resurrection, that saves us from the eternal consequences of sin, death and
eternal separation from the Lord. He asked the pastor to respond to "When you look at the church as a whole, where it
was fifty years ago and where it is today, what do you see as the difference? He responded the lack of prayer and the lack
of evangelism. The church of fifty years ago was a praying church and an evangelizing church. The church of today is
neither. That is of course not always the case, but it's true more often than we want to admit. Many churches has what it
would describe as both prayer and evangelism activities, however, when you look at the substance, there is no depth or
sincerity in the efforts. It's basically going through the motions and there is a lack of meaningful participation by the
membership. Yet this is to be one of the “Church’s “most significant purposes.
A profound statement is made by the Pastor, "We have become keepers of the aquarium instead of fishers of men
(Matthew 4:19). Search as we may, we are hard pressed to find a church that grows by conversion instead of transfer of
believers from one church to another. We are in the Christian relocation business. We are transferring Christians from
one church to another."
The author asked the question why has the church lost its cutting edge in evangelism and can it be regained? The answer
is “yes”, but we must first understand why we have lost the cutting edge. Properly analyzing a problem always helps in
arriving at a solution. Recognizing the cutting edge, though is not the job of the church leaders and it's not the job of the
laypeople. Instead it's the job of both. The leaders can't do it without the help of the laypeople and the laypeople can't do
it without the assistance of the leaders. We are in this evangelical outreach together. We are a family working to make a
genuine impact in evangelizing the community for Christ.
And in all of our efforts the church needs to be a praying church. Daily we need to ask God to take out of our lives what
should not be there and put in what should be there. The more we pray and then act upon God's leading, the better
position we are in to evangelize. Pray individually and come out to Prayer Service on Tuesday night at 6:30 pm to pray as
a church body.
In the coming months I will share some of the authors comments related to sharing the Gospel. As we seek to fulfill and
be obedient to the Lord's Great Commission, it's my prayer that we all become energized in our prayer life individually
and as a church, and in our efforts to evangelize the sinner. To God be the Glory!"

As part of National Safety Month, we want you to prepare your senior loved ones’ homes to help them age in place safely. We know your life as a caregiver - whether you are right there or do so from a distance - is filled with many tasks, but spending time in preparing your senior loved one's home for safety and preparing for emergencies is time well spent and peace of mine for you.
The National Safety Council recommends the following steps that can help get and keep our senior loved ones safe:1. Do a walk-through of your senior's home. Check safety locks, first aid supplies and smoke alarms replacing worn
out batteries. Correct anything you see that is malfunctioning or install it if missing.2. Make family emergency plan listing where your senior can go in an emergency, what they should bring with
them (such as medications, eyeglasses, hearing aids and extra batteries, oxygen, or assistive devices), how they will get there, and who they should call for help. Everyone should know in advance what will happen in case of emergency.
3. Stay informed of weather conditions and potential emergencies in your senior's area.4. Make an emergency supply kit which include:
• Three day supply of non-perishable foods and a manual can opener• One gallon of water for each adult for 3 days• Battery powered radio and extra batteries• Flashlight• Whistle to call for help• First aid kit and medications• Copies of important documents in waterproof container• Cash, change or travelers checks• Change of clothes including long sleeves
Several more things family members and other caregivers can do to be prepared:• Learn CPR• Put the poison control center number near the phone: 1-800-222-1222• Take a first aid class• Prepare any medical devices for power outages
While you are assuring the homes of your loved ones are prepared, take a look at your own. After all, your safety is important too!
June is National Safety Month
We can 'celebrate' this observance by
using it each year as a reminder to do
those safety checks we know are
needed.

More than fifty eager volunteers participated in NHMBC’s Evangelism Walk on June 3, 2017 at 9:00 am. Pastor Mouton and Deacon Eddie B. Norman, NHMBC’s Evangelism Ministry leader, coordinated this outreach activity. It was Pastor Mouton’s vision to impact the lives of 1000 families living in close vicinity of NHMBC.
There was an air of excitement and anticipation from the volunteers, and for a few, a bit of sleepiness. Deacon Norman offered a prayer and Pastor Mouton explained the purpose and plan to achieve the goal of reaching 1000 families. Groups of three or four volunteers were assigned to one of the streets close to NHMBC. The teams were given a stack of bags to share directly with families or hang on doors. The boundaries were 30th Street east to 40th Street. Representatives from the Deacons, Trustees, Deaconess, Mission, and Youth ministries participated. Entire families participated - husbands, wives, children and grand children. Some walked and some drove automobiles to their assigned streets. A special thanks to the NHMBC Youth Ministry for stuffing all of the bags.
During the debrief, volunteers shared their experiences. “Some families were unaware NHMBC was close to them.”, “They seemed grateful to receive the information in the bags.”, “Met some old friends.”, “Next time, we need to bring trash bags so we can pick up trash along the way”. Listen for announcements of future evangelism activities. Sharing the Gospel is every Christian’s joy and responsibility.
