Fitness on Request :When class begins is up to you!

For many people, fitness classes are a fun and exciting way to exercise. A motivated, upbeat instructor keeps up the momentum and cheers you on while you feel the burn. Attend a different class every day of the week and your workout routine will never get stale!

The one drawback to instructor-led classes is that they’re scheduled, and if that schedule doesn’t suit your individual or group needs, you miss out on what could be a great way to work out. Imagine a place where you have an on-demand fitness class at your disposal. No, not in your living room…no moving the coffee table required!

Imagine Fitness on your time, "fitness on request." Fitness on Request is a reality fitness class kiosk and available now in the Aderholt Fitness Center on the second floor in the multi-purpose room. The kiosk is easy to use. Users simply set up a personalized account, choose a class and start sweating! A screen

automatically comes down from the ceiling and projects the class on the screen. Work out with friends or on your own. Fitness on Request gives customers the benefit of a structured fitness class on the schedule that meets their needs.

From beginner to advanced, you choose the level and type of class that works for you!

Fitness on Request :When class begins is up to you!

Classes are listed by category and include variations of step aerobics, spinning, kinetics, dance, fusion, Fit For Duty, and more. Most classes offer both a high impact and low impact option for different fitness levels and classes range from 20-50 minutes.

“This system is a great tool for groups and PTLs, anyone who wants to try something

new or someone who has a very specific window of time for a workout,” said John Proctor, Fitness Manager on Hurlburt Field.

Once you create an account and try a class, you can schedule classes and reserve space. Users may also access their class history and save favorite classes. There is no cost to use Fitness on Request. This is a free service available for use on a first come, first served basis.

“One of the many benefits to using Fitness on Request, as opposed to working out at home, is the convenience of our space here and the use of any additional equipment you might need,” said Proctor. “Customers are welcome to move bikes, risers, mats or anything else into the room for use during their class.”

For information on Fitness on Request, call the Aderholt Fitness Center at 884-6884 or go to MyHurlburt.com.

Whether the valuable skills and experiences learned in Youth Programs help bolster a college application, bring more confidence to a child struggling under peer pressure or simply encourages a little more socialization, these programs will challenge and inspire youth to try new things, while learning more about themselves and the world around them.

Aluminum never wears out, it can be recycled forever

Two-thirds of the aluminum ever produced is still in use today

Discovered in the 1820s, aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth

A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can in as little as 60 days. That means a consumer could purchase basically the same recycled aluminum can from a retailer's shelf nearly every 9 weeks or 6 times a year.

Every minute, an average of 113,204 aluminum cans are recycled.

Making new aluminum cans from used cans takes 95 percent less energy than using new materials.

Twenty recycled cans can be made with the energy needed to produce one can using new ore.

Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to keep a 100-watt bulb burning for almost four hours or will run your television for three hours.

Tossing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as pouring out half of that can’s volume of gasoline.

In 1972, 1 pound of aluminum cans was equivalent to about 22 empty cans.

Due to advanced technology using less material and increasing the durability of aluminum cans, as of 2002, 1 pound of aluminum cans is equivalent to about 34 empty cans.

The average employee consumes 2.5 beverages each day while at work.

An empty aluminum can is worth about one cent.

Funds generated by our recycling center directly support quality of life programs at Hurlburt Field. All Hurlburt members are encouraged to recycle and multiple drop sites are available to make recycling more convenient. Check our website for an up to date list on what you can recycle.

For information on recycling on Hurlburt Field, contact the Recycling Center at 884-7577 or visit MyHurlburt.com.

SePTeMBer iS nATiOnAl liBrAry CArD Sign-uP MOnTH!The Hurlburt Library is about more than just checking out books. A library at its core, is a passport to discovery; a resource for expanding your horizons, breaking out of your comfort zone and exploring the world around you. One way to grow is through learning a foreign language.

Immersion into another culture is undoubtedly the best way to absorb a foreign tongue. If international travel is not an option for you, the next best tool is right at your fingertips. The Hurlburt Library offers Rosetta Stone and Mango as online language learning tools. Whether second-language proficiency is a job requirement or a lifelong goal, one of these options is sure to suit your needs.

Rosetta Stone is available to active-duty members only and features 33 languages. This interactive language learning

system is highly-acclaimed and teaches users to read, write and speak without scripted conversations; a valuable, if not entirely necessary tool in the increasingly global scope of our modern world.

Mango is a free tool available to any Hurlburt Field Library card holder and is accessible right from your home computer. Once you have signed up for your library card, simply log on to MyHurlburt.com and under the ‘Force Development’ header, click on the ‘Library’ link, go to commandolibrary.com, click on the Mango button and get started. Mango focuses on conversational speech and real-life situations.

Once you have a few lessons under your belt, the key to retention is speaking the language regularly. If you don’t have a bilingual friend or a learning partner, it can be next to impossible to find someone with whom to practice a conversation.

Look no further than Lunch Lingo! Lunch Lingo is a free program with weekly language meetings where new and even native speakers attend to exchange words. Meetings are held in the library conference room and highlight a different language each day of the week. The program welcomes beginner to advanced speakers and invites you to bring your own

Lunch Lingo Meeting Schedule:11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Mon - FrenchAlternating Tue - Spanish/Arabic Alternating Wed - Persian (Dari)/KoreanThursday - Chinese

Although everyone with Hurlburt Field access is invited, Lunch Lingo is the perfect practice opportunity for linguists or other active-duty members whose job requires they maintain fluency in a foreign language. Expert language skills parlay into better job performance while overseas and thereby, contribute to mission success.

Involving the whole family is another way to retain what you have learned. A parent studying a foreign language is a great way to introduce a new verbal skill to children, regardless of age. It’s never too young to start! Knowledge of more than one language may have its educational benefits for children.

According to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, studies have linked learning a second language to a child’s academic achievement on standardized tests and may aid in students’ reading abilities.

Explore the world around you through learning another language. The Hurlburt Library is your passport to traveling anywhere you want in the world! Well…you may have to call Information, Tickets and Travel if you need to book a flight!
