The North Texas commercial construction industry is experi-encing a boom that has not beenseen since the 1980s. Both the sizeand high number of projectsbeing developed in the area hascontractors managing multipleprojects and deadlines. One of thegreatest challenges to each projectis securing the best critical-pathsubcontractors for every project, every time.

MYCON is fortunate to havegreat sub-contractors in all phasesof construction that continuallyexceed expectations with theirskills and flexibility when schedules are affected by unforeseen circumstances.

As an example, a 70,000 sf officebuilding had broken ground andwas going to be greatly affectedby the extreme rain experiencedthis past April and May. Havinglost six weeks due to weather,MYCON was able to maintain theoriginal schedule by workingclosely with our subcontractors to re-sequence project tasks andevents.

“Great participation with qualitysubs saved the day on this projectand many others,” according toHayes. “They really stepped up!”

n March 2015 MYCONbroke ground on a new

70,000 sf build-to-suit facilitylocated at 2639 E. RosemeadeParkway in Carrollton, Texas. The $3.277 MM project will be home to Workplace Resource Group (WRG), awoman-owned contract

furniture dealership. The new building will be comprised of 50,000 sf of warehouse spaceand 20,000 sf will be office space.

According to John Riggins, MYCON vice president of office and industrial, the completiondate is set for the fall of 2015. “We are pleased to have been selected by Billingsley Company and Pritchard Associates, Inc., the owner’s representative, for this fast-trackproject,” says Riggins.

The project team includes O’Brien Architects; civil engineer Binkley & Barfield; and structural engineer Hunt & Joiner.

Is a great thing – especially whenwhat you are losing is body fat!In a contest that began on April 1and finished on July 1, twenty-sixMYCON employees participatedin the company version of“Biggest Loser Challenge.”

To ensure accuracy, the HydrostaticBody Fat Testing truck arrived atthe beginning and the end of thechallenge period to measure eachparticipant with a numerical target of achieving a 3% loss ofbody fat. The greater goal of the competition was to provide an incentive for participants to beginworking towards a healthierlifestyle and to have fun withco-workers in the process.MYCON threw in a great incentive by agreeing to cover the testing cost for anyone whoachieved the 3% body fat loss. The grand prize for the winnerwas $400 and employees developeda side competition as well.

Sixteen individuals completed thethree-month challenge, losing anaverage of 10.8% body fat. Firstplace winner was project managerJeremy Dickerson (right) and avery close second was David Boyack (left), project executive.

Prince of Peace School continues to expandrince of Peace School, located at 4004 Midway Road in Carrollton, Texas, hastapped MYCON for construction of a new 14,850 sf kitchen and cafeteria addition

and the renovation of an existing, 1,360 sf concession stand near the athletic complex.

The location of the church and school on Midway Roadhas an interesting history. Initially, the current campushad been built as an Oldsmobile auto mall in theearly 1980s, which at the time seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. The dealership eventually declared bankruptcy, creating a great opportunity for Prince of Peace to purchase the land and existing building. The automobileshowroom was converted into the church sanctuary and the service bays were convertedto classrooms. The school has expanded steadily over the past two decades with plenty of room for future growth.

Unique to the new one story kitchen and cafeteria construction will be the installation of a concrete and TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin membrane) roofing system that will provide the ability to add a second story in the future.

“MYCON is pleased to participate in the growth and improvement of the Prince of PeaceSchool,” stated Steven Hayes, MYCON project manager.

WRA Architects designed the addition and L.A. Fuess Partners is providing structuralengineering. The $5.048 MM project broke ground July 29 and will be completed in January 2016.
