MY PERSONAL PROFILE Relevant Experience and QualificationsMy Qualifications are the Teachers Certificate of Education with a commendation in the Practice of Teaching awarded in May 1976 from the University Of Keele Institute Of Education. After 8 years of working as a teaching practitioner in various schools I am well equipped to the challenge that the classroom brings. I have gained experience in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 having delivered Schemes of Work that I have, on many occasions, helped to produce. I am and always have been ready to embrace new challenges, learning from colleagues and curriculum leaders. I covered one year at Christ the King Catholic High School in Southport covering all aspects of English and GCSE Media Studies as well as an academic year covering the same plus other subjects at Greenbank High School for Girls, also in Southport. These experiences enabled me to become responsible for and fully instrumental in the SATs results for GCSE English in both 2008 and 2009. I contributed fully to the success of the pupils in my duty of care and the department.I am able to measure academic criteria by the means of the new initiative, “Assessing Pupil Progress” as my lesson objectives are always Assessment Focus led. I have taught in Primary, High, Special schools as well as in the Pupil Referral Unit in Merseyside. The latter mentioned school and the Newfield Special School and SEN College were an enjoyable challenge which reaped results both academically and socially as well as behaviourally. I taught across the curriculum from KS2 through to KS4. The students although from many and varied backgrounds warmed to my teaching methods and became very responsive as well as absorbing from an emotionally positive viewpoint. Their behaviour was rarely an issue and most of them in my duty of care became almost friend-like. Both the students and I enjoyed the interaction and I felt satisfied that I was doing something very valuable for all in the classroom. My experiences both inside and outside of the classroom environment have provided me with opportunities to acquire valuable life skills in the delivery, teaching and mentoring of young people. My extensive experience in the media industry has prepared me with the necessary skills to deliver GCSE Level Media and Film Studies. I have all the skills necessary for rapid engagement with the pupils in my duty of care; I am empathetic with my instructions and together with enthusiasm I have all the prerequisites for turning learning into a fun, enjoyable and valuable experience for all concerned – the pupils.I get an enormous sense of satisfaction from seeing pupils strive for and achieve their best having seen this manifest itself in other schools where I have taught, I am also very aware of and take note of the differing ability levels of those in my duty of care where I note CATS scores and ability levels at Key Stage 2 being able to set the work in lesson planning under the various criteria for the Assessment for Learning thus setting the appropriate levels of the particular class that I am teaching. I was teaching year 10 classes in English Language and Literature for the new Controlled Assessments in preparation for the GCSE Examinations.

Key Achievements/Unique QualitiesMy skills from the commercial world admirably suit those required in the classroom and having worked with classes of varied ability ranges academically and behaviourally, Colleagues and Departmental Heads have remarked how I have little effort engaging with and delivering effective “Lessons for Learning” to the children. I believe that I possess the drive and enthusiasm to do so effectively.A full-time Teacher-colleague in the Geography department of a local high school told me that I had proved to be the lowest maintenance supply teacher he had ever experienced!I truly believe in the values of the individual, I follow the schemes of work and introduce my own brand and style of delivery within the subject framework.I have marked and completed reports as part of my work for Year 7 through to Year 10 classes within the Art, English and Geography departments of different schools. I have participated in Parents Evenings involving them with the academic and social wellbeing of their child. I will always contact parents where I feel that this aspect of learning has been or is being compromised.

I have taught discursive writing, English Grammar and various Shakespearean texts, Creative Writing as part of the Writing Triplets. Taught from “Edges” and I have also covered Media Studies on Popular Music, Films and Advertising.I am ambitious, dynamic and well qualified; my subject focuses are Art, Drama through English Literature and Geography; all which play a vital part in the creative senses and self-expression of children, I am also conversant in the teaching of many other subjects of the school curriculum having prepared and taught lessons to classes from Year 7 through to Year 11 and beyond.I have also has a wealth of experience in the teaching of young people in the age-range of 8 –16 years with severe behavioural, social, academically and complex needs in more than one SEN Specialist College in the Merseyside area. The students in my duty of care engaged with me as did I with them… The “Voice of Reason” and the “Dutch uncle” approach reaped results for all as I am a very empathetic communicator. My former career employed in the training of adults in the commercial world enabled me to progress from company representative through sales management, ascending the structure to become the Company Trainer. Testing my people-skills in this industry added value to those in my duty of care thus enhancing their position and contribution to the needs of the business. It is these skills that I have brought to the classroom. I have been highly commended by a head teacher for my comprehensive marking and comments in pupils’ English class books at a recent school scrutiny/inspection.All schools have held me in high regard as a committed and accomplished classroom practitioner. I can communicate confidently and comfortably with colleagues, pupils and parents. I am a strong, committed and practising Christian having held positions of responsibility within my local church.I have a basic knowledge of spoken French and German. My leisure interests are classical music, photography and golf – (absolute novice). I love walking and regularly walk in The Lake District as well as The Welsh Mountains.I am keen to be involved with extra-curricular activities and school trips and have taken part in a summer school for a fortnight during last August at St. Chads High School in Runcorn.

Recent Testimonials sent to my employing agency or stated in whole school morning briefings.

This first one from Archbishop Blanch High School for Girls, Liverpool...1. “Thank you for arranging for Dave Russell to cover English for the last few weeks. He came across as very friendly and enthusiastic and built up a good rapport in the staff room. I received great feedback from the department about his teaching and discipline skills. Also, when the teacher he was covering returned, she made a point of asking to send her thanks to Dave. He had delivered all the work set and the feedback notes he left made her return so much easier. He is welcome back any time!”

Another recent testimonial shared at a morning staff briefing from the Head Teacher of St. Chads High School, Runcorn…2.“On our recent Schools audit and workbooks inspection, I had occasion to inspect a sample of books marked by Dave and found them to be very detailed, supportive for the students with very comprehensive and conscientious marking...”

Alsop High School in Liverpool commented…3. On a recent Head teacher inspection whilst I was teaching a year 10 class of boys, the Head, in his summing up stressed how I engaged with the boys academically and emotionally, throughout the lesson I was told that they remained attentive and motivated despite the fact that the class were known to be very challenging...

Another testimonial from the Mosslands High School for Boys in Wallasey…4. “Dave is an absolute pleasure to have at the school. He does everything that is asked of him and more – if there are extra lessons that need covering, Dave is the first one there. He ensures all his work is marked thoroughly and that communication is kept between himself and the school at all times. The Mosslands would be more than happy to recommend Dave.”
