Mother Nature ravaged the annual gala fundraiser for the American Cancer Society with a mammoth rainstorm, resulting in confusion due to the lack of a backup plan. But the Cattle Baron’s Ball committee is made of much sturdier stuff. They immediately regrouped and started making things “right.” One of the first steps was to compensate guests who had missed the much-sought-after gift bags by setting up shop in Highland Park Village. There, they had commit- tee members personally distribute the bags along with apologies for any inconvenience. Then there were the sponsors. They knew that Cattle Baron’s had more than lived up to their com- mitments for more than three decades. They also recognized that without the sponsors, it would be a very rough road to recov- ery. Without hesitation, sponsors such as Andrews, Diane and Hal Brierley, Park Place, Bank of America, and Dr Pepper signed up for the 2010 gala. With all this support, the Cattle Baron’s com- mittee came back stronger and smarter than ever. First was the selection of ball chair Kristi Sherrill Hoyl, whose day job is vice president of govern- mental affairs at Baylor Health Care System. She showed her leader- ship and strength at her theme announcement event last January at Cowboys Stadium, say- ing, “I’m Kristi Sherrill Hoyl, and, yes, we have a backup plan.” That backup plan took into account everything that could possibly hap- pen if Mother Nature threw another fit. Now that all the CBB ducks are in a row, bet- cha Mother Na t u re decides to no- show. There are organizations that would have been dev-astated if they had expe-rienced an event like last year’s Cattle Baron’s Ball.

There, they had commit-tee members personally distribute the bags along with apologies for any inconvenience.

Then there were the sponsors. They knew that Cattle Baron’s had more than lived up to their com-mitments for more than three decades. They also recognized that without the sponsors, it would be a

very rough road to recov-ery. Without hesitation, sponsors such as Andrews, Diane and Hal Brierley, Park Place, Bank of America, and Dr Pepper signed up for the 2010 gala.

With all this support, the Cattle Baron’s com-mittee came back stronger and smarter than ever.
