Teacher’s notesThe aim of the following activities is to encourage children’s sensory experiences with tactile materials, and relate these to the sounds they are exploring. A large focus sound, such as ‘at’ has been provided for children to trace over, paste material onto, colour, outline with glitter pens, etc. Space is also available around each large sound so children can explore the sound in any way they wish, and add to the page any association they have with that sound. One idea for highlighting the large focus letter is to outline it with glue and then add glitter, colourful sequins, confetti or bright tissue paper. A fun idea for the area around the large focus sound is to have the children use decorative writing such as rainbow colours, bubble writing, etc., to write words that contain the focus sound. Another idea is for the children to write these words in pencil, outline them in glue and sprinkle glitter or sequins over them. Having scrap materials, old magazines, paste and scissors available encourages children to express their own creative ideas. However, listed below are some ideas to get you and your class started.
