My School Magazine

May 2011

My Mock Up.The masthead will be

very clear, large and

bold so that it can

stand out and strike

attention. The name,

‘St. M’s’ will also,

hopefully, aid this as I

find it quite sharp

and amusing.

IMAGE

The use of the bar

code makes it look

complete and

professional.

Kickers will be

different colours,

however,

complimenting the

whole image,

preferably black, blue

and white. The fonts

will also be different as

well to elicit interest.

Theo most complex will

be the largest.

The explanation is

quite self-explanatory. I

won’t give too much

away as I would want

the reader to read on.

The date of issue

will be in small

because it is not

as important.

The photo I chose...I chose this photo

because I thought the

colours and props

worked really well

together.

The glasses and folders

were stereotypically

associated with students.

I thought this gave it a

more genuine feel of

sixth form.

I chose not to do a low

or high angle shot as I

thought it’d connect

more to the audience.

1. Layer: Gaussian Blur

Filter – Blur –

Gaussian Blur...

I then used the

erasing tool to rub

out the focal points

(model, file).

This effect puts a

lot of emphasis on

them.

2. Layer: Colour

I used a dark

shade of red for

this picture and

put it as soft

light.

The colour

really enhances

the look.

It makes the

models hair

look richer and

compliments the

models dress.

2. Layer: TextLarge, bold title to

catch the reader’s

eyes. I did it black as

it looked most

professional and was

not too harsh on the

eyesThere’s a maximum

of three fonts

which is almost a

must for designing

a magazine.

The most complex

font is in large as it

cannot be read

properly

Feedback:I love this magazine cover :)

Well done Tibs.

Just a few things to give it a

more real look…

1. Add a bar code

2. Add a month and year

3. You could add a starburst,

although I don’t think it

really needs one

Other than that, I think it’s

lovely! Especially the colours

and

the originality of the name,

St.

M’s

The Final Look :)

May 2011

I added a date...

And a bar code.
