MY PERSONAL WEIGHT LOSS VISIONSTATEMENT

“A man without a vision is a man without a future. A man without a future will always return to his past.”

Riddle me this: What is bigger than dreams, broader than goals, and better than motivation? What’s stronger than willpower, trumps resolutions, and beats inspiration?

Give up?

It’s a Vision. More specifically, it’s a weight loss vision statement.

Stay with me on this.

If you desire to lose weight and get in shape, dreams are never enough. Neither are goals. In fact, depending too heavily on either of those is why so there is so much failure in weight loss.

But having a clear vision is the one thing that doesn’t fail.

Why? Well, think about the truth in this.

“ONLY VISIONS CREATE MISSIONS”

Let the revelation of that sink in for a moment, and you’ll realize that dreams can’t do that. Neither can goals. Nor can motivation, inspiration, willpower or resolutions.

Without a vision, all those efforts are temporary and rapidly wane.

Without a defined vision, New Year’s goals and resolutions don’t stand a chance. Not having a crystal clear vision is why yo-yo dieting is so common. And it’s why so many people are frustrated.

But a vision preserves and protects what matters.

It starts with a vision. It creates a mission. It results in transformation.

FOUR STEPS TO A DEFINED VISION

There are four steps to a defined vision, and I’m going to give them to you now:

1) HINDSIGHT. It’s been said that hindsight is 20/20, meaning you have a perfect understanding of an event after it’s happened.

You can use that wisdom to your advantage by emphasizing the value of your past experience. Together, we’ll help you use that wisdom to your advantage by emphasizing the value of your past experience. We do that by reflecting on your dietary and exercise history.

Page 3: MY PERSONAL WEIGHT LOSS VISION€¦ · Without a vision, all those efforts are temporary and rapidly wane. Without a defined vision, New Year’s goals and resolutions don’t stand

But it's about more than correcting past errors––that's only half the equation. You also should look for hard evidence and precedence of past successes as proof of your ability to change your life.

2) INSIGHT. Like looking through a microscope, insight helps you focus in on the present. Cultivating the ability to live in 'the here and now' gives you the greatest decision-making power you'll ever possess.

Nothing is more powerful in transforming your life than your daily decisions. The habits you form, and the steps you take every day reveal how committed you are to your vision.

But don't worry. If you are not yet sure of your vision, we'll help you get clear on how you want your body to look, how you want it to feel, and how you want it to perform.

3) FORESIGHT. Like looking through a telescope, foresight allows you to see into the distance, and see all the possibilities that are waiting for you.

Foresight connects you to your future. It'll keep you focused on your vision while providing you the continuing motivation that can't come any other way. With foresight, you'll create your core vision/core values that help you believe in your future.

Whatever your vision for your life, you should have it. But it won't come without developing the skill that gives your life a valuable purpose.

4) OVERSIGHT. Like having an oversight committee, accountability gives you a perspective you can't receive any other way.

Depending upon others to help keep you on track is the fastest and most reliable path to reaching your health and fitness goals. The incredible value of depending upon your coaches is that they gather around you and help you stay true to your vision.

THE SECRET POWER OF VISION

You see, the real power of having a vision is that it gathers people together for a common purpose so they can focus on something greater than themselves.

There’s something greater than weight loss at work here. There’s something more meaningful. And your Vision Statement will help you flesh that out.

A clear, tangible statement tells you, in beautiful detail, where and why you are going. So let’s get you started.

WRITING OUT YOUR VISION GETTING CLEAR ON YOUR FUTURE

HINDSIGHT: Think about it. What’s the REAL reason you want to lose weight? Consider what has brought you to the point where you are ready to make changes in your life. Have you had health-related scare? Need more energy for your job? Are you wanting to be an example to your family? Are you unhappy with the way you have been feeling? Whatever it is, include it in your statement.  Write down three reasons:

I want to lose weight because:

1.

2.

3.

INSIGHT. A good Vision Statement will take into account how you want to feel emotionally––now. Remember, insight is about the present. So think about that. How do you want to feel about yourself—right now? Imagine the feeling you want to experience as a person living a healthy life. What you may discover is that these are exactly the feelings that you are trying to create with food. They may be: relaxed, satisfied, energetic, excited, in control, safe, or even loved. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can’t experience positive emotions until you are at your desired weight. Instead, develop and cultivate the feelings you want to have now.

I want to feel:

1.

2.

3.

FORESIGHT. Go ahead. Look into the future. See yourself in the way that will make you proud of yourself. Write out three “I will” statements that project the way you want to view yourself in the near future.

I will

I will

I will

OVERSIGHT. This is where you predestine yourself for success. You know what predestination is, right? It’s getting on a specific road, heading to a specific place, and not getting off the road. If you don’t get off the road, you are predestine to arrive at your destination. Having accountability partners is the most sure way known to making sure you arrive at your destination. So, who will be your three oversight partners? One may be your coach. One may be your spouse. And one may be a close friend.

Now it’s time to create your Vision Statement. Write it as succinctly as possible, and make it meaningful. Then, use the chart on the next page. Fill it out and bring it to the gym. We’ll post it on our Vision Board along with others.
