    PSA Project: The DESIGN Phase

    Outline

Project Title: How to incorporate Web 2.0 tools & the smart board in a mathclassroom

General Goal: To help inform/teach math teachers on how to incorporate certaintechnologies (Web 2.0 & smart boards) in their everyday lessons.

Specific Outcomes: Discuss how to find Web 2.0 tools to use, give specificexamples that can be used in a math classroom, how to search for smart boardlessons/ideas to use in the classroom, and examples of specific ways to use the

smart board in a math class.

AudienceWho will use this project (e.g., teachers, students, other; be specific)?

This project is intended for teachers to use to help them explore using technologyin a math classroom.

    Content Outline

    I. Why should technology be used in a classroom?A. Technology gets students involved in their learning and gets themmotivated to continue to learn.1. Video of student using technology in the classroom

    B. It also prepares the students for the future in teaching them skills that theywill one day use in the work force.

    C. Students now were brought up in a world of emerging technology so havingtechnology stream into the education part of their lives gives them a senseof familiarity, which will help reduce stress.

    D. Using technology in the classroom will also help cater to learning stylesthat may have not been reached in other forms of instruction.1. Just as every student grows and develops at different rates, they learn

in different ways and at different speeds. Technology makes it possibleto pace lessons appropriately for each students learning level and canbe used to promote learning in the multiple intelligences.http://theapple.monster.com/benefits/articles/8484-using-technology-to-differentiate-instruction

    2. Definition of DI: By differentiating instruction, we mean the planningand delivery of classroom instruction that considers the varied levels ofreadiness, learning needs, and interests of each student. Teachers cando this most effectively by using a range of technology tools to engagelearners at varying levels of readiness in multiple ways and by offering

students options for demonstrating their understanding and mastery ofthe material.http://www.cited.org/library/site/media/Differentiated%20Instruction%20Using%20Technology%20UPDATE12%205%2007.pdf

    E. Why should technology specifically used in a math classroom?1. Students attitudes would change about math. They would go from

students hating and dreading math to actually liking it and lookingforward to class everyday and finally, actually understanding it!a) Pictures that portray the frustrations with math and also loving

    math.

II. Web 2.0 Tools: The New Age of TechnologyA. Definition & explanation

    1. The term Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitateparticipatoryinformation sharing, interoperability, user-centereddesign,[1] and collaboration on theWorld Wide Web. A Web 2.0 siteallows users to interact and collaborate with each other in a socialmedia dialogue as creators (prosumers) ofuser-generated content in avirtual community, in contrast to websites where users (consumers) arelimited to the passive viewing ofcontent that was created for them.

www.wikipedia.com2. A great website to look out if you are interested in Web 2.0 tools:http://www.web2teachingtools.com/

    3. If web 1.0 was organized around pages, web 2.0 is organized aroundpeople. Steven Johnsons Time magazine article Its All About Ushttp://www.recommendedwebtools.com/index.php/552/definition-of-web-20/

    B. Let the search bar do all the work for you!1. Include screenshots of searches.2. Be specific if you know what you are looking for. If you are looking for

just some ideas, simply search Web 2.0 ToolsC. Tools that I would recommend or have used! (Screenshots and links will be
