“The Body of B. Franklin, Printer Like the Cover of an old Book
Its contents torn out, And stript of its Lettering and Guilding, Lies here,
Food for Worms, But the Work shall not be wholly lost:
For it will, as he believ’d, Appear once more In a new & more perfect Edition,
Corrected and amended by the Author.”
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Don’t we often want a new body?
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The bodies we inhabit are full of problems.

The bodies we inhabit are full of problems. Several biblical characters suffered in their bodies. “Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and struck
Job with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. And he took a piece of broken pottery with which to scrape himself while he sat in the ashes” (Job 2:7-8, ESV).

“Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha” (Jn 11:1, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We know important truths about our bodies.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin: “Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned” (Rm 5:12, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die. We know this from experience.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die. We know this from experience. “It is appointed for man to die once” (Heb 9:27, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die (Heb 9:27).
Those in Christ will be resurrected with new bodies.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die (Heb 9:27).
Those in Christ will be resurrected with new bodies. “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of
command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord” (1 Thess 4:16-17, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Sickness & disease are in this world because of sin (Rm 5:12).
Unless the Lord comes first, our bodies will die (Heb 9:27).
Those in Christ will be resurrected with new bodies. 1 Thess 4:16-17. Some in Corinth doubted the resurrection.

The Makeup of My New Bodyvv 42-44
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
“What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body” (vv 42-44, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sowed perishable but raised as imperishable.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sowed perishable but raised as imperishable. The bodies we now have are capable of decay.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sowed perishable but raised as imperishable. The bodies we now have are capable of decay. “By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the
ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return” (Gn 3:19, ESV).
“All are from the dust, and to dust all return” (Eccl 3:20, ESV).
“All are from the dust, and to dust all return” (Eccl 3:20, ESV).
However, our new bodies shall not be susceptible to decay.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sown in dishonor, but it will be raised in glory.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sown in dishonor, but it will be raised in glory. How will our bodies be sown in dishonor?
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sown in dishonor, but it will be raised in glory. How will our bodies be sown in dishonor? Death is God’s enemy.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sown in dishonor, but it will be raised in glory. How will our bodies be sown in dishonor? Death is God’s enemy: Jesus “must reign until he has put all his
enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death” (1 Cor 15:25-26, ESV).
It is not at all honorable to fall victim to God’s great & last enemy!
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
This body will be sown in dishonor, but it will be raised in glory. How will our bodies be sown in dishonor? Death is God’s enemy: Jesus “must reign until he has put all his

It is not at all honorable to fall victim to God’s great & last enemy!
Our bodies shall be raised in glory. Our bodies shall be raised in glory, for they will be like Jesus’
body!

Our bodies shall be raised in glory, for they will be like Jesus’
body! “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not
yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 Jn 3:2, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mt 26:41,
ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mt 26:41,
ESV). “We know that law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under
sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate” (Rm 7:14-15, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Mt 26:41,

sin. For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate” (Rm 7:14-15, ESV).
If these animated bodies are that weak, how much more dead bodies!
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. But, these bodies will be raised in power.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. But, these bodies will be raised in power. The Gr preposition “in” could be translated “by.”
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. But, these bodies will be raised in power. The Gr preposition “in” could be translated “by.” These bodies will be raised by the power of God.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
These bodies will be sown in weakness but raised in power. These bodies are extremely weak. But, these bodies will be raised in power. The Gr preposition “in” could be translated “by.” These bodies will be raised by the power of God.
We know “what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead” (Eph 1:19-20, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our bodies shall be sown as natural bodies, but they shall be raised as spiritual bodies.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our bodies shall be sown as natural bodies, but they shall be raised as spiritual bodies. Our current bodies are not fit for the spiritual realm.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our bodies shall be sown as natural bodies, but they shall be raised as spiritual bodies. Our current bodies are not fit for the spiritual realm. “I tell you this, brothers: flesh and blood cannot inherit the
kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable” (1 Cor 15:50, ESV).
This is an accepted biological principle.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
God is going to give me a NEW BODY!
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The Man of My New Bodyvv 44-45
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
“If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. Thus it is written, ‘The first man Adam became a living being’; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit” (vv 44-45, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The existence of the natural body requires the existence of a spiritual body.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The existence of the natural body requires the existence of a spiritual body.
A spirit needs a body.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The existence of the natural body requires the existence of a spiritual body.
A spirit needs a body.
“While we are still in this tent [our physical bodies], we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life” (2 Cor 5:4, ESV).
When we rise from the tomb, our spirits shall be clothed with spiritual bodies.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Adam became a living being.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Adam became a living being.
God formed Adam from the dust of the ground “and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (Gn 2:7, ESV).

My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
But, the second Adam is a “life-giving spirit.”
We shouldn’t be surprised, for God gave life to the first man.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
But, the second Adam is a “life-giving spirit.”
We shouldn’t be surprised, for God gave life to the first man. “The LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature” (Gn 2:7, ESV).

“Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ” (vv 20-23, ESV).

I shall rise again, for Jesus is the Man of "My New Body."

The Move of My New Bodyvv 46-49
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
“It is not the spiritual that is first but the natural, and then the spiritual. The first man was from the earth, a man of dust; the second man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust, and as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. Just as we have born the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven” (vv 46-49, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
Why would the Spirit inspire Paul to write something so obvious?
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
Why would the Spirit inspire Paul to write something so obvious?
It must be important!
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
Why would the Spirit inspire Paul to write something so obvious?
It must be important!
In Paul’s day, many Christians over-emphasized the spiritual realm.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
Why would the Spirit inspire Paul to write something so obvious?
It must be important!
In Paul’s day, many Christians over-emphasized the spiritual realm.
In Thessalonica, many Christians quit working.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
“Even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living” (2 Thess 3:10-12, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
The physical comes before the spiritual.
Why would the Spirit inspire Paul to write something so obvious?
It must be important!
In Paul’s day, many Christians over-emphasized the spiritual realm.
In Thessalonica, many Christians quit working (2 Thess 3:10-12).
Paul: “Yes, the spiritual is more important than the physical. But, the physical comes first & you must live in the physical world.”
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
While the spiritual realm is far more important than the physical, we must live in the physical world.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
While the spiritual realm is far more important than the physical, we must live in the physical world.
Jesus understood that.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
While the spiritual realm is far more important than the physical, we must live in the physical world.
Jesus understood that.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Mt 5:16, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
While the spiritual realm is far more important than the physical, we must live in the physical world.
Jesus understood that.
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Mt 5:16, ESV).
“As in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left” (Mt 24:38-41, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We must live in this physical world.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We bear Adam's image.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We bear Adam's image. We are mortal, as was he.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We shall bear the image of the Man from heaven.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our next existence shall be like Jesus’ heavenly existence.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our next existence shall be like Jesus’ heavenly existence.
“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 Jn 3:2, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Our next existence shall be like Jesus’ heavenly existence.
“Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is” (1 Jn 3:2, ESV).
There are many similarities between Jesus’ heavenly existence & our heavenly existence.
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Jesus lives forever: “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades” (Rv 1:18, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Jesus lives forever: “I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades” (Rv 1:18, ESV) & we shall live forever: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (Jn 11:25-26, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Jesus lives forever & we shall live forever.
We shall share Jesus’ glory in our heavenly state: “When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” (Col 3:4, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Jesus lives forever & we shall live forever.
We shall share Jesus’ glory in our heavenly state.
We shall live forever in heaven as does the man from heaven: “The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord” (1 Thess 4:16-17, ESV).
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
We don't have to hope for a new body! We shall have one when these bodies move to heaven!
My New Body 1 Cor 15:42-49
Do you have that hope this morning?
