5Do you ever wonder what your life would look like if your
dreams came to life? What if your mind was the puppet
master and held the strings, pulling ordinary objects to-
gether to create something that would only be possible in your
imagination? What if you could create your own alternate reality,
a place that is dreamlike, and sometimes nightmarish? How far
would you take your imagination? Follow me as I take you on a
journey through my life... in a subconscious world.

6As a 23 year old young woman living life as a full-time graphic
design major and part-time sandwich artist, my life is hectic,
and at most times random. I live in the south suburbs of Chicago,
Illinois, and I commute on the Metra train to downtown Chicago,
where I attend Robert Morris University. My daily life mostly
consists of school and work, but I sometimes find time for fun,
relaxation, and mini-getaways. Most times, my imagination runs
-
9wild, and I find myself piecing objects
together in my mind and creating a
surreal scene.
I adore the people in my life, and
try to enjoy as much time as possible
with them. I live with my mom who
works many hours as a CNA. I almost
always see her in her nursing scrubs.
On many evenings she comes home
to relax in front of the television, then
goes to bed to wake up and start her
day all over again. I know she loves her
job, but I often wonder if she imagines
herself on some remote island away
from it all.
The person I spend the most time
with is my boyfriend, who lives in
Gary, Indiana. We both commute

almost everyday across Interstate 80
to spend time with one another. There
are some days we spend together,
where I am working on homework and
he is enthralled in his video games
after a long day at work. After six
years of friendship, the last two being
a relationship, he has become my best
friend. We spend so much time with
one another, that many people joke
that were like siamese twins.
With such a busy schedule, I
usually find peace and enjoyment in
the small, simple, things in life. I go
to playgrounds, beaches, or around
the neighborhood to enjoy nature. I
like to photograph things that people
look at everyday, whether its a f lower,
a building, or a park bench. I aspire to
-

capture the beauty of ordinary things, so people can see them
in a new way. Whether, I spend a day at the Indiana Dunes in
the scorching sun, climbing stairs that lead to the highest peak,
or a moment sitting next to my boyfriend as he opens his mail
and looks over bills, I want to capture every moment, and every
memory, as it would be in a subconscious world.

What most would consider a boring, hum-drum, life, I consider
it to be an active, fast-paced, adventure. Sometimes people get
so caught up in their daily routine, that they dont stop to smell
the roses. . .literally. This photo project is my way of doing that.
Capturing daily activities, weekend adventures, and the nature
and atmosphere that surrounds me, gives me an opportunity to
stop my on the go routine and simply look around. Capturing

ordinary things and events, finding
beauty in them, and rendering them
in an unconventional way, allows me
to explore the unconscious world of
thoughts, dreams, and perception.
This is my life... inside a
subconscious world.
