Police in riot gear used CS gas to disperse crowds yesterday in Birmingham’s city centre. More than 100 Birmingham City supporters marched through the streets on a rampage of distruction. Police called in reinforcements but by the time they arrived the damage was done, and many of the people who were involved had escaped. When the Birmingham VS West- ham United game ended, hooligans pelted the buildings with bottles and stones and tried to force their way in. Several officers and people inside the pub were said to have suffered cuts from flying glass. Police said one constable needed hospital treatment. Order was restored after police reinforce- ments, some in riot gear, arrived. Police said 11 people were arrested.
