PERLIS AT GLANCE

• Perlis is located in the north peninsular

Malaysia and bounded:

I. Thailand in the north; and

II. Kedah in the south

• Total area is around 795 𝑘𝑚2

• Mainly distributed to 3 parliament,

which is:

I. Padang Besar

II. Kangar

III. Arau

BIODIVERSITY

•Existing river is not well maintained by

residents

•Most water from drainages will be

discharge into nearby river

•River colour is mostly light brown

•Bushes grown around the river

AIR QUALITY

• According to Air Polution Index Management System ( APIMS ), air quality index in my hometown is averagely 51 for the whole day

• Therefore the condition is moderate

WASTE AND RECYCLING

•Most rubbish will be dumped into the

dustbin

•Recycle bin is rarely to be found around

Perlis, if found, its function is already

abused

•Mostly there will be lorries that will

moves around my hometown to buy

recyclable materials like tin, glass, steel

and old papers

•The collected materials will be sent to

the recycle factories

ECO FOOTPRINT

• The population is around 240 000 and thus the eco footprint is low

• Less earth resources used by consumer

• Impact on environment occurs only during seasonal planting of paddy and sugarcane where the air will be polluted

• There are no impact from services, transport, and housing development since the population is low

TRANSPORTATION

•Widely used transportation medium are cars and motorcycles

•Public transport which is widely used is bus, where the bus travel near to passenger’s home

•Taxi in Perlis doesn’t use the meter system, where only approximates fares is being charged to the passengers

•Bustop is available every 1.5 km

•Kangar is the main town in Perlis, where all roads will be connected

•Less traffic jam during peak hour because of less population of people

EDUCATION

•Education provided from kindergarten

until secondary school

•The schools is strategically located in

each area

•There are daily schools and some hostel

schools like MRSM and SBP

•UNIMAP is scattered over the whole

Perlis

HEALTH AND HEALTHCARE

• Instead of government clinec, the are

several private clinic in my area

• Private clinic focused more onto type

treatment such as Dental clinic,

Veterinary clinic

GREEN SPACE

• There are large green space in my

hometown

• Less construction project that claims

green space

• Green space is widely used for

agriculture activities like paddy

planting

• Mostly my hometown is green with

paddy field

• The temperature is cool

CLIMATE CHANGE

• There are no climate change resulting from urban activities in my area

• Only seasonal climate is available

FOOD

•There are multi racial living in Perlis, so

restaurants with Malay, Chinese and

Indian are opened

•There are also fast food restaurants like

KFC, Pizza Hut and Ayamas. There are

no Mc Donald Restaurant because the

company estimate that there will be no

profit with small population

•Most food stall only operates until 12

midnight

ECONOMIC BASE

•The center of Kangar is well served by various business such as electrical shops, hardware shops, shoping mall, restaurants, and mechanic shops

•No factories located inside Kangar, mostly are built far from residential and housing areas

EMPLOYMENT

•Less job opportunities in my hometown because Perlis is not an industrial state

•There are shop offices rent for the public

•Many people have their own business

•Less job company for example law firm, construction company, big industry
