Your Health Matters Too How to manage your Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)

Heart Friendly Food Facts

Your health matters too! Dealing with your CAD is vital for you and your family. Did you know that CAD is the most common heart disease? And that if you have CAD, your family members have a higher risk of getting CAD too? CAD is caused by a build up of fat in the blood vessels of your heart. Since blood vessels carry blood and oxygen to the rest of your body,

this can be very bad. Dealing with your CAD will help prevent future heart attacks and stroke. Simple changes to your diet can help protect your heart and your family members’ hearts too. You have the power to change your CAD! Follow

these simple suggestions and you can cook heart healthy meals for you and your family.

• Fruits and veggies are good for your heart!

• Smaller portions keep your meals

heart healthy! • Fiber and soy lower the fat content

in blood vessels!

• Salt raises blood pressure, which makes the heart work too hard!

• Whole grains have fiber that keeps

meals heart friendly! • Frying adds fats to foods, which is

bad!
