Welcome to the Junior Explorers Sampler Pack.
As your child’s first and most important teacher, you can play a key role in laying the foundation for a successful future. Each Junior Explorers resource has specific parent tips to help you guide your child through their learning journey.

Parent Tips As your child’s first and most important teacher, you can play
a key role in laying the foundation for a successful future. Tap into your
child’s natural curiosity with the Junior Explorers series and start your
child’s early learning journey. With its focus on the core learning areas
of literacy and numeracy, and the broader learning areas of life skills and emotional intelligence, Junior Explorers will help your child become
school-ready and life-ready!
Write & Wipe Counting BookExplore the Write & Wipe Counting Book with your child to help them learn to count from
0 to 20 and recognise and write the numbers. Tuning in Practise counting fingers and toes together to get to 20. Try counting backwards
as well to get your child used to the backwards counting sequence. Make it fun by
singing the numbers or making up rhymes for them. As you undertake everyday tasks such as unpacking the groceries, get in the habit
of counting out the items and having your child count along with you. Exploring the Write & Wipe Counting Book Model the starting point of each number for your child and talk them through the movement of the
pencil, using language such as ‘straight down’ or ‘around in a circle’. Repeat the same words each
time your child writes the numeral to help them learn the correct formation. On each page, ask your child how many items they see and guide them to point to each one as
they count. Talk about the pictures, reminding them of times that you have seen those items.
Concentrate on the numbers from 0 to 10 initially until your child is confident with the sequence.
Help your child to complete the activities and wipe the book off to do them again if needed. Exploring some more! Make cards with each of the numbers on them and have your child peg
them in the right order on a piece of string hung between two chairs. Ask your child to close their eyes while you remove one of the numbers, then have them open their eyes and identify the number that is missing.
When reading picture story books with your child, ask them to identify how

10 tips to support your child’s learning
The Junior Explorers parent tips also include tips on how to motivate and reward your child, and support their learning. Here are some top tips you can refer to when helping your child work through this sampler pack.
Offer your child some simple choices as you do learning activities together, so they can have a sense of control over their learning.
Try to link learning with something your child likes. For example, when practising counting, if they like dinosaurs, count the dinosaur toys they have.
To create positive learning experiences, talk to your child about what they’ve learned and what they enjoyed doing with you as they worked through the Junior Explorers resources.
Use positive reinforcement for your child’s efforts and acknowledge any progress that they make, even when they don’t quite manage to accomplish what they set out to.
Give positive but specific feedback to your child through their learning, for example, ‘I like the way you …’ so they know what they did well and what they should keep doing.
Be enthusiastic about learning as you explore different topics. It’s bound to rub off on them!
Find what your child is good at, whether it’s recognising letters or being open to trying new foods, and build a sense of pride in their successes.
Encourage your child to make connections between the things they have learned about and their everyday lives.
Give your child responsibility for something related to what they are learning, such as setting an alarm when they are learning about time. This can build their confidence, independence and life skills.
After the learning is finished for the day, reward your child with a shared activity, such as reading a story or going to the park.
