Happy Families Instructions 1. Print out two copies of the next page for every group of 4 learners - each set of cards will

have four of each family member. Back with coloured paper (a different colour for each set to help with sorting) and laminate, or stick onto recycled cereal boxes and cut out, so that the cards can’t be seen through from the back.

2. Give each group of four learners one set of cards. Shuffle and deal the cards out.

3. Learner A asks any member of the group if they have a particular card - “Have you got a mother?” If the other learner has the card, they must hand it over. If not, the second learner in the group can take a turn. Learners can only ask for cards that they already hold one of.

4. When a learner has four cards of the same type, she can put these down on the table.

5. The winner is the learner who puts down all of her cards first.

Variation: if you would rather practise with the whole family, print out each set onto a different colour of paper. You will end up with (for instance) one green father, one red father, one yellow father, and one blue father. Back these with white paper and laminate. Learners ask, “Have you got a green card?” The winner is the first to make up a whole set of parents, grandparents etc. in a single colour.
