It has been an exciting but a busy term. Teachers in particular have been busy with report writing and assessments. I am very pleased to see the overall achievements of students in both Primary and Secondary Learning Areas. Thank you to all dedicated staff of Yarraville SDS for your work in making a difference to student learning.
Student Support Group (SSG) Meetings
Thank you to all who attended the SSGs on Tuesday or at another time. I hope you have had the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with respective staff members. I also hope that the Learning Diaries provided you with a snapshot of your child’s learning at school. Supported Transport for Students and NDIS
In last week’s newsletter, you received some information regarding the discussion paper on this topic.
“Supported school transport is provided to some children and young people with disability so that they can travel to and from school. Currently, supported school transport is delivered by the state and territory governments with arrangements differing in each jurisdiction.
As the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is rolled out across Australia, this paper asks for your feedback on whether current arrangements for supported school transport should continue or whether the potential model for supported school transport could work under the NDIS. You are invited to provide your feedback. To complement this discussion paper, some face-to-face consultations will be held in each state and territory commencing shortly. Further details will be published on this website engage.dss.gov.au .”
I would like to alert you all about Supported Transport and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Discussion paper and encourage you to provide feedback. At the moment supported school transport is provided to some students with a disability so they can travel to and from school. In Victoria this is funded by the state government. The NDIS is looking at an alternative model for transport to and from school. There are two broad options:
1. Maintain the current arrangements where the state government retains responsibility or
2. A new model where families have increased choice and control over transport options and have an individual funding package.

This is a huge change and needs to be considered carefully.

Off- Site Evacuation
We had a practice drill evacuating to the park on Tuesday. We were very pleased at how efficiently staff and students managed to evacuate safely. Our students were real stars in managing the drill in less than 6 minutes.

Focus On Ability – Short Film Festival
Our school documentary “SAMUEL BAKER- STUDENT, FRIEND, FIREFIGHTER” has been selected in the NOVA film festival for online voting and judging. The online voting commenced Wednesday 20th June and will be open until 3rd July. I would encourage everybody to vote. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please visit www.focusonability.com.au (official section- Documentary) to view and vote.
We had an opportunity to view this at our school assembly today and it was highly appreciated by all the members of our community.
School Fundraiser – Movie afternoon
YSDS Fundraising committee is organising a school fundraiser movie afternoon at Sun Theatre in Yarraville – Sunday 22nd July at 4:30pm. Mama Mia 2 - tickets are $25 (including a small popcorn). There will be an online link created on the Sun Theatre website to purchase the tickets.
Thank you for your engagement, responses to various surveys, connection and participation in the many school events throughout the semester.

In term 2, the Photography Electives Group wrote, filmed and directed a short documentary film starring our very own Samuel Baker. We are happy to announce that it was accepted into this year’s Focus On Ability short film festival. The festival commenced on Wednesday 20th June.
You can go online and view the film under School Entrant – Documentary. While there, please take the time to vote for the film. The more votes the film receives the more chance the school has of receiving the ‘Audience Choice’ award.
Well done to all the students from the Photography Electives Group, and especially to Samuel Baker.

INVITATION TO REGISTER INTEREST
As the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) comes into place, the Australian Government wants to hear directly from NDIS participants, parents, carers, school communities and transport providers about how we could best support transport to and from school for NDIS participants into the future.
The Department of Social Services, state and territory governments and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) are working together to understand if and how supported school transport could be delivered in the NDIS.
To help inform future options, we are holding a series of discussion forums with parents, carers and representatives of the school community to discuss what’s needed to support children who have a disability to travel to school under the NDIS.
We will also be holding workshops with the services and supports delivering supported school transport, such as transport providers, disability services, advocates and other interested stakeholders.
Current supported school transport arrangements will remain the responsibility of state and territory governments until all governments have considered the outcomes of the consultation and agreed on an approach.
You’re invited to register your interest to attend one of the workshops:

Thursday 21 June at Barwon Valley School, 76-94 Laura Ave, Belmont

Một buổi thực tập sơ tán đến Công viên đã được tổ chức vào thứ Ba. Chúng tôi thực sự hài lòng khi thấy toàn thể nhân viên và học sinh thực tập rất hiệu quả và an toàn. Học sinh của chúng tôi là những ngôi sao thực sự trong việc quản lý thực tập sơ tán trong vòng chưa đầy 6 phút.

Phim tài liệu của chúng tôi “SAMUEL BAKER- STUDENT, FRIEND, FIREFIGHTER” đã được chọn trong liên hoan phim NOVA cho việc bình chọn và đánh giá trực tuyến. Việc bỏ phiếu trực tuyến bắt đầu vào thứ Tư ngày 20 tháng 6 và sẽ được kéo dài cho đến ngày 3 tháng 7. Tôi khuyến khích mọi người tham gia bỏ phiếu bình chọn.
