VERIFYING THEELECTRICALINTERFACE

Electrical Diagrams are inthe Appendix.

CAUTION: Equipment hazard.Do not plug an MX Sprue Picker control into aninterface wired for the MXR Sprue Picker con-trol. Damage will occur! Call Conair Service ifyou are unsure or have any questions.

Verifying signals from sprue picker to IMMCheck the following interface signals:

● Permit Clamp Close Signal indicates the sprue picker is in a predeter-mined safe position for the IMM clamp to close. Ifthe sprue picker is not clear of the mold area, clampclosing must be inhibited. Also, if the sprue pickermisses a part, the clamp must be inhibited fromclosing.

● Permit Clamp Motion When the sprue picker arm is in a safe area this sig-nal allows IMM clamp motion.

● Mold Ejection (Forward) The ejection of the part can be controlled by thesprue picker. This ensures the proper placement ofthe sprue picker gripper before the sprue/runner isejected.

● Robot Non-operationalThe switch contact is open when the IMM is operat-ed with the robot. The switch is closed when theIMM is operated without the robot; the PermitClamp Close, Permit Clamp Motion, andEmergency Stop are still monitored. All other sig-nals can be in an undetermined state.

● Emergency StopWhen the robot emergency stop is activated the cir-cuit opens and activates the IMM emergency stopcircuit.

Page 33: MXR Sprue Pickers - ConairMXR Sprue Pickers with CD-EM1 control Instant Access Parts and Service (800) 458-1960 (814) 437-6861 The Conair Group, Inc. One Conair Drive Pittsburgh, PA

Verifying signals from IMM to sprue pickerVerify the following signals as functional and correct:

● Mold Fully Open This signal indicates that the mold is in a predeter-mined fully open position. This is a very importantsignal. If the sprue picker enters, or attempts toenter, the mold at the wrong time damage to the armand/or mold can occur.

● Mold Fully Closed This signal is sent to the sprue picker when the moldis fully closed or locked up.

● Safety Gates Closed This signal tells the sprue picker that the safetygates that prevent access to robot motions areclosed.

● Fully Automatic When signal indicates the the IMM is in full auto-matic operation mode.

● Reject PartThe IMM signals the sprue picker there is a rejectedpart. The sprue picker grabs the part, strips it andimmediately releases it without moving it outside.

● Emergency StopWhen the IMM emergency stop is activated the cir-cuit opens and activates the emergency stop circuitof the sprue picker.

ADDING ASECONDDESCENT

UGR006/1001 MXR Sprue Picker, CD-EMI Control APPENDIX B-1

You can add a second descent slowdown circuit to an MXRmodel sprue picker. The two valves that are part of the seconddescent slowdown circuit are the vertical valve and the swingvalve.

The second descent slowdown valve is an air actuated valve. It is actuated by the swing motion. When the swing motionswings out, the pressure used to swing the arm out energizesthe slowdown valve. When the arm descends in the swing outposition, the exhaust of the vertical is diverted through thesecond descent slowdown valve through a metering valve.

This metering valve creates a second slower speed. When the arm swings back in, the pressure to the seconddescent slowdown valve is no longer present and the air forthe vertical cylinder goes straight through the second descentslowdown valve without being metered.

WarningThe air supply to the sprue picker must be dis-connected and drained from the machine beforedoing any installation or maintenance. Failure toheed this warning may result in personal injury.
