KICK-START YOUR FITNESS PROGRAM

Physical fitness is not only a vital part of a healthy and proactive lifestyle, it is also a great way to improve mental health and stability. Family and MWR’s (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) programs encourage fitness as a way to improve both healthy physical and mental activity. In doing so there are a number of viable options including weight training, cardiovascular exercise, yoga, pilates, and other flexibility-based fitness programs.

Whether you are a Soldier or Family member, starting your fitness program depends mostly on the type of exercise that best fits your preferences. If you are more interested in increasing your flexibility and muscular strength, then you may want to pursue exercises like yoga. On the other hand, if you want to improve your cardio while losing body fat and increasing muscle performance, than you may consider resistance training and running. Regardless of which you prefer, almost any fitness goal can be obtained at home or your local fitness center. What's more, doing so is a great way to fight off cabin fever.

DOUBT: A PARABLE PERFORMANCE & DINNER THEATER FEBRUARY 19, 20, 26 & 27, 7:30 P.M. Doubt can be a bond as powerful and sustaining as certainty." Who will you believe?

SPOILER ALERT: The play is set in the fictional St. Nicholas Church School, during the fall of 1964. It opens with a sermon by Father Flynn, a beloved and progressive parish priest, addressing the importance of uncertainty. The school's principal, Sister Aloysius, a rigidly conservative nun vowed to the order of the Sisters of Charity, insists upon constant vigilance. During a meeting with a younger nun, Sister James, it becomes clear that Aloysius harbors a deep mistrust toward her students, her fellow teachers and society in general. Naive and impressionable, James is easily upset by Aloysius’s severe manner and harsh criticism.

Dinner theater performance of DOUBT on February 19 & 26 only. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m. Dinner tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for children. Non dinner seats are $10 for adults and $5 for students 14 and older. Purchase tickets at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/Grafenwoehrrectrac.html or just follow the links at grafenwoehr.armymwr.com.

IN THE HANDS OF THE READERThe great debate over which typeof book is the right one.

Reading can be educational, fun and more easily accessible than ever thanks to reading options with things like e-books. The U.S. Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Programs, or Family and MWR, gathered some pros and cons of both e-books and traditional books to help you figure out which works best for you and your family.

E-BOOKS: - Instantly accessible: You don’t have to physically head to the store or Army library to go get an e-book. They are often instantly accessible on your device from many large chain booksellers, your local library, even from GLIS (General Library and Information System). - Lightweight: Thick, heavy backpacks and book bags can be a thing of the past with e-books. - Expense: The e-books themselves may be inexpensive, but the device on which to read the e-book can prove a bit costly. - Doesn’t wear out: E-books don’t suffer the same wear and tear from handling that print books receive. Each time you open your electronic book, it’s as crisp and clean as the first time. - Don’t have to return it: Unlike traditional print books, e-books available through libraries don’t necessarily need to be checked out. That means you don’t have to return them or end up with overdue fees. - Multimedia options: Due to its advanced format, e-books don’t always stick to only the printed word or picture on a page. They may include various multimedia options, such as playable videos, interactive activities, games or quizzes.

PRINTED BOOKS: - Wider availability: Despite e-books' instant accessibility, the printed books typically have a wider range of available titles, at least for the time being. - Wider accessibility: Although the printed book may be heavier than electronic files, they are also more widely accessible to anyone who wants them. No special device is needed to read one, just a comfy place to sit and a bit of time. You don’t need to worry about batteries running out or your e-reader getting damaged or lost. - Room for notes: Printed books come with margins and sometimes extra pages where you can keep notes. You may also be more easily able to highlight text and mark passages that deserve to be embedded in your mind.

Whatever your choice of reading style, reading is an essential part of a happy life. Visit your local Library today and find out how you can start checking out both printed and e-books for free.
