1 Republic of South Sudan Juba Date: August 8 th , 2017 SUBJECT: HUNGER IN MVOLO, YERI, BAHR EL GIRINDI COUNTIES AND DARI, LESSI, GULU AND MBARA PAYAMS IN AMADI STATE SOUTH SUDAN. Introduction: Due to 2016 drought local food production in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties and Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams were very lower compared with the food productions in the previous years. On the other hand the persistent insecurity caused by the ongoing conflict in South Sudan prevented people in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties and Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams from cultivating their agricultural farms. The impacts of the mentioned natural and manmade disasters culminated to Hunger Crisis in Mvolo, Yeri, Bahr El Girindi Counties including Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams as reported by The Honorable Governor of Amadi State over EYE Radio on July 12 th 2017 at 8:00 Am in the morning that 54 people were dead and 232 people arrived from Yeri County in Mundri West County escaping hunger crisis in Mvolo, Yeri and Bahr El girindi Counties including Dari, Lessi, Gulu and Mbara Payams. The declaration of hunger by Honorable Governor was also confirmed by the Bishop of Yeri/Mvolo Diocese Rt. Rev John Abraham. On Saturday July 15 th 2017 few persons from Amadi State held emergency meeting in Juba in which the decision was made to make urgent lifesaving contributions to save lives of those hunger affected people arrived in Mundri West County from Yeri County in dire needs of food. On the way from Yeri a women with four children arrived in Gulu and on their way from Gulu to Mundri the four children collapse on the way unable to walk. That woman hide the four children under the shadow of big tree and she ran to Mundri begging her close relatives in Mundri to help her with few quantities of flour to go back only to make a porridge to help the four weak children regain energy to continue their journey to Mundri. This scenario forced few persons from Amadi State to contribute an amount of SSP 30,000 in cash to

SUMMARY:  

1. In  accordance  with  last  5th  Sudan  Population  and  Housing  census  of  2008  -­‐  published  on  November  19th   2010   the  population  of   entire   former  Mvolo  County  was  48,134  people.  

2. Now   on   the   date   of   this   letter   the   numbers   of   hunger   affected   people  arrived  in  Mundri  from  Yeri  alone  is  505  people.  

3. Now  on   the  date  of   this   letter   the  death   toll   from  hunger  has   risen   to  62  people  dead.  

4. 40%   of   the   remaining   populations   (47,567   people)   are   paralyzed   in   their  houses  and  60%  are  expected  inactive  in  the  mentioned  Counties/Payams.  

The   death   rate   and   displacement   are   increasing;   as   such   there   are   urgent   dire  needs   to   deliver   urgent   humanitarian   relief   food   to   save   lives   of   thousands   of  people   in  Mvolo,  Yeri  and  Bahr  El  girindi  counties   including  Dari,  Lessi,  Gulu  and  Mbara  Payams,  paralyzed  in  their  houses  on  death  rows  of  hunger.
