Youth ConcertsSYMPHONIC STORYTELLINGThe 2016-2017 Colorado Symphony Youth Concerts “Symphonic Storytelling” features symphonic literature from every major historical era, and composers from Europe, Asia and the Americas. Students will be guided through a process of imagination linking the music they hear to elements of story such as characters, setting, actions, and consequences. Many of the works students will hear at the concert are themselves based on stories. These stories will be included with the Colorado State Music Standards and Common Core aligned materials featuring the program’s repertoire, enabling classroom study in advance of the field trip. Make your reservations early!

Master MentorsSYMPHONY MUSICIAN TEACHING ARTISTS VISIT YOUR SCHOOLThis highly flexible program provides support for music students of any grade. At the request of the teacher Colorado Symphony musician Teaching Artists can lead instrument demonstrations, listening/singing/movement workshops, coachings for band/orchestra students, advice for students interested in pursuing a career in the musical performing arts, composition/improvisation, or another specific request.

CURRICULUM CONNECTION MusicCOST $120 per hour per CSO Teaching Artist. Save $30 per hour per

Hispanic Heritage School Day ConcertAssistant Conductor Andrés Lopera will lead the Colorado Symphony in a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a program of Cultura Latina in the musical arts. Folklorico, Sing-along, and standard symphonic repertoire from South American, American, and European composers will be performed in an educational setting with Maestro Lopera guiding students through the rich history of Hispanic music.

Drums of the WorldTake a trip around the world with the Colorado Symphony’s world-class percussionists creating exciting rhythms with drums and other surprising percussion instruments.

Petite MusiqueThis specially designed program introduces the instruments of the orchestra to very young children in venues throughout the metro area. Our 16 piece orchestra and narrator perform an interactive program which incorporates storytelling, singing, and movement with music. This year’s program, Petite Buckaroos, will delight young children, teachers, and parents.

In School ProgrammingA Colorado Symphony small ensemble will visit your school to present a program of music integrated with language arts, math or science. Choose from the options below, including available program combinations that can serve all grades.

Music of Life Grades 3-5 An imaginative integrated arts program highlighting the relationships

between music and life sciences. Eco-systems and metamorphosis are combined with music concepts of theme and variations, and melodic development. Teachers receive preparation materials prior to the performance. See below for suggested Once Upon A Time pairings to include programming for lower elementary grade students.

Mathnotes Grades 3-5 An innovative and popular integrated arts program highlighting the

relationships between music and mathematics. Teachers receive preparation materials prior to the performance. See below for suggested Once Upon A Time pairings to include programming for lower elementary grade students.

Once Upon A Time Grades Pre K-5 These storytelling programs introduce students to classical music,

instruments or the orchestra, and support language arts instruction. See below for program combinations that can serve all grades.
