Students will play ostinati with a song, reading basic musical notation.

1. Introduce:a. Australia: discuss unique animals and words.b. Show lyrics of “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” and see the

animals the song talks about. 2. Develop:

a. Listen to “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” (CD 2-15). b. Have students join in on refrain and verse repeats after a few

hearings. c. Learn the ostinati with the repeated rhythm phrases and play as

body percussion. i. Demonstrate a rhythm and have students tell which one

it was from the ones listed on the PowerPoint. ii. Transfer students to instruments.

d. Perform the song with students playing their instrument parts.e. Listen to “Brolga One” (CD 2-17)and briefly discuss the

didgeridoo. 3. Close

a. Have students go back and clap each ostinato together.b. Time permitting, sing “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” again, or

do call and response rhythm improvisation.
