Three types of music videos

1) Concept P!nk – PerfectThis is a concept video because it shows flashbacks of someone’s life and through the video we follow the protagonist’s life.

2) Narrative Daughter – StillThis narrative video tells a story of a couple who strive to be in love but no longer have feelings for one another as they have grown apart.

Sepia type of effect – gives an old feel – the past

Ambiguity – images of past on the wallsSurrounded by the past?

Just memories?

Overlays & Montage sequences – sequence of memories all at once.

Blurred memories

Low key lighting – sets the scene – unhappy.

Blue tint throughout – relationship is

cold.

These similar shots shown above show that both the male and female feel the same way about their relationship – that it cannot be saved. The way the female cradles her feet expresses her loneliness.

The woman’s face is highlighted by the warmth of the lamp on the left, contrasting the cold blue on the right. This reflects the narrative – although their relationship is irrevocable, they both just want to be loved.

3) Performance Slipknot – Before I ForgetIt is a typical convention for bands to do Performance music videos. In this particular video, there are many close ups of the band playing their instruments as the band is known for not showing their faces. Most shots show the foreground in focus and the background out of focus.

They are most commonly known for wearing masks but in this music video they do not. We know this because of the camera shots cutting out their faces and certain shots show parts of their faces.
