A Fistful of Music

Music Newsletter for the Hiram College Library Community

May 2014

You might puzzle over many curiosities in Northeast Ohio—how we can have so many losing

sports teams, why is there lake effect, how many orange cones does it take? But you don’t

have to puzzle over our music collection. No other institution in the area has the eclectic

mix of genres and artists that we do. We have just topped 14,500 CDs and 11,500 vinyl

recordings. That’s 26,000, for those keeping track of such things, and we do. With more

than 900 Northeast Ohio artist CDs, 500 historic jazz CDs (the Rochford Collection), and the

immense Bauman CD Collection, we just keep on growing. This time out we have local

rockers, some from far away, Russian composers without Russian names, organists,

harpists, guitarists, harmonica players, and two guys named Gilberto. Any comments,

questions or demands can be sent to Jeff Wanser, [email protected]. We'll make more.
