Letter Fromthe Executive Director
Welcome to The Music Hall, at the heart of Westchester since 1885!
Ever since I got involved with The Music Hall, I have wanted to offer our community a the-ater arts education program. And now, we are about to embark on a new adventure by starting The Music Hall Academy. The guiding motto of The Academy is “Art for Life” and our mission is to provide young people with valuable life skills developed through partici-pation in the theater arts. There will be workshops and events throughout the Spring, then Summer Camps and regular scheduled classes by Fall 2018. We are thrilled to have former Off-Broadway director and local theater educator Peter Royston at the helm for this en-deavor! Stay tuned…
As a nonprofit organization, we stand or fall by the support we are able to inspire from our community. Whether you are involved with The Music Hall mostly as a patron, or if you are one of our 200+ amazing volunteers or a Music Hall member, sponsor or donor, or serve on our Board of Directors, you are part of keeping the music playing, THANK YOU! The love for our theater is really an inspiration. We strive every day to be worthy of the trust you place in us. And the decisions we make, we consider how it will benefit the future of our theater and our community.
As you might imagine, restoring and caring for a 133-year-old building can be challenging. Rather than focus on the difficulties, I love this quote from a colleague of mine at The League of Historic American Theaters, “We have an historic theater ADVANTAGE!” And this is so true. There is something special about experiencing a show in an old space, saturated with memories of generations of theatergoers and artists.
So many treasured theaters were lost in decades past, but show me a community that rallied to save theirs and I will show you a town with thriving stores, restaurants and coffee shops. Few things are better economic engines for a downtown area or a region than an active theater. Supporting your local theater is supporting a wonderful place to live, raise a family and locate your business.
But primarily, a theater is a magical machine for larger than life experiences. We know our ancestors had become humans when they started painting on cave walls and made musical instruments. Later we began constructing whole buildings specifically to enjoy art together. It’s a pretty wondrous thing, if you think about it, something that binds all humans together. I hope you thoroughly enjoy the event that brought you here tonight. I look forward to welcoming you back to Tarrytown and The Music Hall again soon!
Enjoy the show!Björn Olsson, Executive Director

Letter Fromthe Board President
A Warm Welcome To Music Hall Patrons:
I am pleased to introduce myself and to welcome you to The Tarrytown Music Hall. I have been a fan and a patron since I first moved to Tarrytown in 2003. I am sure you will understand when I tell you that it was a natural progression to go from attending concerts, to becoming a member, then a member/donor and most recently President of the Board. There is just something about this place that makes you want to chip in and contribute to the success of this “gem”; a historic treasure and non-profit arts organization that means so many things to so many people in our community.
As a music enthusiast I am grateful to have the opportunity to see so many remarkable performances right here in Tarrytown, my own backyard, without having to commute far into the city for world-class entertainment. Many people express an appreciation for the intimacy of the setting here as well as superior acoustics. If you are as wowed as I am—and I
hope you are—by the roster of artists who take to our stage and by the vibrancy of camaraderie within our community of patrons, staff and volunteers then I whole-heartedly invite you to strengthen your involvement and join our ranks. You’ll be working with a great group of people committed to serving the arts and our community and have a blast while doing so.
We at The Music Hall work hard to ensure there is something for everyone—from the youngest child witnessing his or her first live play to music fans of all genres. Please consider becoming a member—or increasing your membership level; I am confident you will find it quite rewarding to help sup-port the arts, keeping live music and theater performance
at the Music Hall thriving for decades to come.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact me via email at:[email protected]
Warm regards,Rob Clarfeld, President

As the only venue in Westchester to have all shows, including tour buses, powered by the sun, The Music Hall carries an array of solar panels on its rooftop that produces nearly 28,000 kilowatt-hours per year. Additional energy upgrades include efficient LED light-ing as the cleanest and most eco-friendly way of stage illumination, and thanks to a generous gift from Mark Franzoso, Franzoso Contracting, the old and drafty dressing room windows were recently upgraded to be more functional and energy efficient.

“I always love to play in Tarrytown. It’s in a gorgeous position on the edge of the Hudson River. Really close to New York City but so tranquil and picturesque. It’s steeped in history too and it’s phantoms live on... The gateway to Sleepy Hollow, it’s the place which inspired one of the most amazing spooky stories I’ve ever read. The beautiful Music Hall venue is reputedly haunted and for sure has a powerful atmosphere. I feel those aghosts backstage and I’m sure they’re with us when we play, adding an extra spirit to the whole show!”—Steve Hackett, Genesis

“… we love finding great off the beaten path places to play … discovered Tarrytown about three years agoand now we are back for the third time playing two nights. The first night is an example about what we’ve come to love about places like this—a very appreciative crowd that as Lu says “listens to the quiet songs and loves it when we rock”. It’s also a great soundingroom which is a very big thing for Lu - she wants topeople to hear all the words. That pretty muchchecks off all the boxes that we look for.”—Lucinda Williams Mgt.

Collaboration. Cooperation. Teamwork. Creativity. Problem solving. These are just some of the valuable life skills our new Music Hall Academy will be sharing with young people through the magic of theater.
A former off-Broadway director, theater educator Peter Royston will oversee The Music Hall Academy as it introduces children in grades 2 through 12 to the excitement and learning opportunities in theater arts. Students will be exposed to writing plays and musicals, building sets, designing costumes, learning how to act, dance, and sing, using professional lighting and sound systems, exploring the business side of the performing arts as well as directing.
Under the marquee of theater arts, Royston will encourage students to have a willingness to “think outside the box,” be empathetic and good listeners, be collaborative team players and to have the personal confidence that will lead to success—both on and off stage.
The Music Hall Academy will start during the summer of 2018 with two programs. July is Workshops Month (June 2 – July 20), as The Academy offers weeklong workshops exploring different aspects of the theatre process. Themes being considered include Stage Combat Week, Legends & Myths Week, and Musical Theater Week! In August (August 6–August 24), the Academy will take on the Bard’s most magical play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in a three-week Shakespeare Intensive!

Board of DirectorsThe Music Hall has an AMAZING board of directors! Our board members are our mentors, advisors and very generous supporters. They also ensure that our non-profit theater remains a servant of its community now and in the future. Our board President Robert Clarfeld’s commitment is unsurpassed. He has donated time, expertise, and financial support which enabled The Music Hall to secure a renewed mortgage on our crucial “annex building.” This property was needed not just for parking but also to be able to park tour buses and equipment trucks off the street. The effort was achieved after a LOT of negotiations, discussions, twists and turns. Board member Whitney Singleton put in his time and professional expertise, handling the legal side, including the closing on the new loan, provided by long time Music Hall supporter M&T Bank. We cannot overstate the importance of having access to this property and being able to secure it for the future was a big “exhale” for all of us. Then, at Christmas time, our board Treasurer Kent Sheng surprised us with an in-credible gift of a Steinway Model D Concert Grand. This piano is a true legacy gift that will thrill artists and patrons alike for decades to come! The Music Hall Board has tremendous people that are committed to the performing arts in our community and to the success of our landmark theater. We thank them for their service, we have the best friends!
The Music Hall is owned and operated by The Friends of the Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory, Inc, a registered nonprofit organization as defined under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.

School and Family Programming for Young Audiences
Spark imagination! Inspire creativity!
Early exposure to the arts can help children unleash their full potential. That’s why every year the Music Hall opens its doors to tens of thousands of children who visit our theater on a school trip or with their summer camp. For many children, this is their very first experience with live theater.
Familiar stories like Frog & Toad, The Hungry Caterpillar, and Junie B. Jones are brought to life on our stage creating a magical moment for the children. “I feel like I am in a dream!” is
just one of the many reactions overheard from our youngest audience members. The power of the arts to connect with our young audience is measured in the smiles, laughter and fun that the fills the Music Hall.
The Music Hall also offers main stage performances that are
geared especially to families. The Nutcracker Ballet, presented in just an hour, is the perfect introduction to this holiday classic for even the most fidgety little ones. Other fun-filled family friendly shows include: Bubble Time, Jack Hanna Into The Wild, Disney’s Choo Choo Soul, and Dr. Suess’ The Cat In The Hat.
The Music Hall is the perfect place to introduce live stage performances to your youngest arts fan. Our theater is welcoming and as cozy as your living room at home. We invite you to plan your visit soon!

Resident CompaniesThe Music Hall is host to a lot of touring talent, but we are committed to supporting high quality performing arts in our region as well. Westchester is home to some incredible companies! Our patrons have already had opportunity to see our new Resident Company Ballet Des Amériques in action, and I am very excited to announce that we will be continuing and expanding this partnership. BDA has both an academy for top quality dance training and a professional company and we will be hosting events for both arms of this very am-bitious group. Check our online box office for upcoming shows as they are added, both for BDA and our other Resident Companies Westchester Symphonic Winds and Random Farms Kids’ Theater. Last year, The Music Hall supported its Resident Companies with more than $50,000 worth of space. Your membership and donations make it possible, thank you!

There’s a reason we represent more buyers and sellers than any other brokerage in the Rivertowns. No real estate office sells more homes in Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Irvington, and Tarrytown than Houlihan Lawrence. We lead the area both in transactions and closed sales volume. List your house with confidence in 2018. Why settle for anything less than the best?
