Returning for its fifth year, this multicultural extravaganza will bring Fed Square to life with sounds, sights, tastes and smells from around the globe. Proudly presented by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Viva Victoria is a unique opportunity to sample the amazing cultural diversity that we celebrate in our state. Enjoy a jam-packed program of dance, music, cultural workshops and free kids’ activities. Take in performances from some of Victoria’s finest multicultural musicians and dancers – including a dedicated dance program with workshops, and a youth stage. Feeling peckish? Head to the River Terrace where you can treat your taste-buds to a culinary adventure, with over 20 cuisines to choose from. While you’re there, why not relax with a cold drink and enjoy some more music on the Beer DeLuxe Stage? Back in the main square you’ll find the World Market area, featuring unique contemporary and traditional arts and crafts from local and international artisans. Wander around some more and you’re bound to bump into a roving performer, encounter a pop-up performance, or take part in a cultural workshop or sports clinic. Bring along your family and friends and join in this huge celebration of cultural diversity and community harmony. Viva Victoria! Message VICTORIA: 200+ COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN, 230+ LANGUAGES, 120+ FAITHS, 1 COMMUNITY. MUSIC & DANCE ACTIVITIES & EXHIBITS Kids’ Activities Little ones will love the Kids’ Zone! They can get creative with origami and tribal jewellery- making sessions, chill out with cultural storytelling, or get active with dance, singing and clowning. There is also free face painting to enjoy. Colourfest Film Festival Visit the big screen in the Atrium to view a selection of short films from the Colourfest Film Festival, featuring stories of culturally diverse Australians. Showing at 1:00pm, 3:00pm and 5:00pm (Dur: 58”) Art Exhibition Head to the Atrium to view the finalists’ entries from the Cultural Diversity Week Schools’ Art Competition. Young people were asked to visually interpret themes of multiculturalism, citizenship and cultural diversity. The results provide a fascinating and colourful insight into our society as seen through the eyes of our youth. Sports zone Get active and test your hand- balling skills at the Viva Victoria AFL footy clinic. You will have a chance to meet some stars of the game, and have a photo taken with one of our Cultural Diversity Week AFL Ambassadors. If a round ball is more your style, players from the Melbourne Heart team will be on-site to sign autographs and pass on some of their top soccer tips. Melbourne Victory players will also be on-hand to sign autographs and teach you a few skills in the Melbourne Victory Panna Cage. SUPPORTING HARMONY WITH AN ORANGE RIBBON During Cultural Diversity Week we mark the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on 21 March. Wearing an orange ribbon is a personal pledge not to commit, condone or remain silent about any form of racial or religious discrimination. MULTIFAITH MULTICULTURAL YOUTH NETWORK The Multifaith Multicultural Youth Network (MMYN) was established in 2007 to provide advice to the Victorian Government on issues that affect young Victorians from culturally, religiously and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The MMYN comprises 28 young people from a range of faiths, cultures, ages, geographical locations and life experiences. The MMYN is administered by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship. Members of the MMYN have been pivotal in the coordination of the Ubuntu stage. MC Diana Nguyen 11:40am Ambulance Victoria Pipes and Drums Keeping the Pipe and Drum tradition strong amongst Victoria’s emergency service organisations. 12:00pm Welcome to Country Wurundjeri Elder, Aunty Caroline Briggs. 12:10pm Skin Choir Indigenous artists sing of kinships, community and connections, with a touch of comedy. 1:00pm Tek Tek Ensemble With a vibrant and eclectic style, these guys will make you want to dance! 1:30pm Zorba Brothers Join the brothers in their quest to lead the biggest Zorba dance in Melbourne! 2:00pm Grace Barbe With influences from her Seychelle’s heritage, this is music with a modern reggae, dub and soul sound. 3:00pm Neda – All Colours Project An extravaganza of live percussion and dance. 4:00pm Lamine Sonko and the African Intelligence Take a musical journey around the world! Roots, afrobeat, reggae and salsa influences. 5:00pm The Bamboos featuring Kylie Auldist and Ella Thompson They’ve toured Europe three times to sell out audiences, but luckily for Melbourne they always find their way home! Lance Ferguson and his nine-piece outfit have been named one of the greatest funk and soul bands of our time and the music just gets better when they’re joined by Kylie Auldist and Ella Thompson. MC Valanga Khoza 12:30pm No Passport Required A remarkable cross-cultural collaboration of local artists creating a performance that is 100% Australian. 1:30pm Wang Zheng Ting and Friends This trio combines jazz traditions with the lyrical and expressive musical styles of China. 2:30pm The Rechords Rockabilly, bluegrass and 1960’s R&B – rock along with their lush three-part male vocal harmonies. 3:30pm Karavana Flamenca High-energy, upbeat rhythms and soulful melodies spell Gypsy Fiesta every performance! 4:30pm Afrovival and the Oil Can Project A cross-cultural experience blending old folklore, Soukous beats and high-energy dance. 5:30pm Leo Salvo An exotic mix of traditional and contemporary music from Uruguay, with roots in West Africa, Canary Islands and Spain. The Edge Ubuntu Youth Stage The ever-popular Ubuntu stage is back! Featuring the fresh talent of some of Victoria’s most talented young performers. Teame is a contortionist and must be seen to be believed. 4:30pm Pataphysics A mash up of lyrics, trumpet, MPC, live improvised beats, big basslines, guitar and freestyles led by Pat Marks.
