MUSIC CITY DISTANCE: EVENT PROFILEThe Music City Distance Carnival is Tennessee’s premiere track meet. In its short history, it has yielded more Tennessee all-comers records, State high school re-cords, National Championships qualifying performances, and sub-4 minute miles than any other track meet in the state.

In the classic 1 mile distance, the meet can boast the fastest mile ever recorded in Tennessee, has seen seven sub-4:00 miles, and gave Nashville its first ever, courtesy of 2-time Olympian, Anthony Famiglietti.

What makes this event special? The Music City Distance Carnival is unique in several ways. First of all, it is a track meet solely devoted to distance running, which is by far the fastest growing and popular sector of the sport of track & field. Second, it is the only track meet in the southeast United States offering prize money. Third, it is the only meet in the nation offering open races (for all ages and abilities) in the same event where na-tional caliber high school, post-collegiate, and masters runners are competing.Fourth, the meet takes place late at night making the weather more conducive to fast running and adding to the electric atmosphere.

As well as attracting the best distance runners in Tennessee and surrounding states, the Distance Carnival regularly draws U.S Olympians and has had among its participants runners from Canada, Kenya, Japan, Great Britain, Ireland, Bar-bados, Jamaica, Burundi and Congo.

Outside of the Country Music Marathon, the Distance Carnival ranks second to none when it comes to bringing elite runners and fans of the sport to middle Ten-nessee. What makes the event different and better than the marathon, though, is that everything - the races, the spectators, the interviews, the sponsors’ logos - is on and around a 400-meter oval. In short, a potential sponsor is getting constant coverage in front of a captive audience!

vertising, onsite display or sampling, or inclusion of your product or promotional materials in the participant goodie bags.

WebOver the last three years, the event’s website averaged 90,000 unique views in the 60 days preceding the event. Tennessee Running, the Distance Carnival’s parent company, has the most popular running website in the state. We can package a web marketing package for potential sponsors that capitolizes on the popularity of both sites. We’ll even design the banner ads for you for free!

Media CoverageAs it was in 2007 and 2009, the Music City Distance Carnival will be covered by Flotrack (www.flotrack.org), the most popular video track coverage provider in the nation. In 2007 and 2009, the Distance Carnival races on Flotrack had over 30,000 views.

Previous SponsorsThe Distance Carnival has in the past been sponsored by a mixture of national and local spon-sors. National sponsors have included Puma and Reebok, while local sponsors have included Healthways, accountants Kraft CPAs, law firm Sherrard & Roe PLC, speciality running retailers Athlete’s House and Team Nashville.

EVENT SCHEDULE + VENUEThe 2009 Distance Carnival will, for the 6th time, take place at Vanderbilt University’s Track & Field complex in the heart of Nashville,TN. Vanderbilt’s state of the art Mondo track played host to the 2000 SEC Outdoor Championshihampionships, and has a reputation for being a fast surface. The Distance Carnival has served to strengthen that reputation, providing it with facility records at 1 mile (men and women), 3000m Steeplechase (men and women), and 5000m (women).

That year’s Music City Distance Carnival saw three women go sub-10, led by current meet record hold-er, Kelly Strong and followed by Delilah diCriscenzo, the subject of the hit song “Hey There, Delilah.”
